Arsenal Stopper Szczęsny Linked With Swansea Move

Arsenal Reserve team goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny has been added to a two name short list by Swansea manager Roberto Martínez, as the Championship outfit search for a back up stopper.

The other keeper’ has already been revealed as Fulham new boy David Stockdale, and reports coming out of both London and Wales claim Szczęsny has been identified as a second choice, should Stockdale fail to agree terms.

Martínez only has one stopper on his books, but fearing an injury or illness to first choice Dorus de Vries, the Welsh outfit are keen to bring in a new face between the sticks on loan. The Spanish manager admits they are closing in on a target, with a deal expected to be reached sometime in the next 7 days.

“If Dorus, for instance, was to feel sick overnight on Friday, we would have someone in line to join us on Saturday morning, but we’re not desperate to get a goalkeeper in at the moment because Dorus is such a reliable figure.”

“We want to bring in a keeper because of the dynamics of the squad but we have to make sure he has the right personality. We hope we can do something soon, maybe just before this weekend or straight after it.”

Wojciech – a Polish Under 21 International –  was subject of Championship interest over the summer, however, this was rebuffed ahead of the new Reserves campaign. He put in a terrific performance against Chelsea despite some poor defending costing him his clean sheet, and added to his growing reputation as one of the brightest stars in Europe.

Italian Vito Mannone was suspended for last weeks fixture, but will be eligible for the next game, meaning ‘Tech 9’ could find himself back on the bench. Swansea have good experience of nurturing talents from bigger club’s, something Szczęsny could really do with to develop his already great talents.

I really hope we can get him, Dorus hasn’t been great for us and any Arsenal youngsters to arrive would be welcome additions.

    Good article about us btw!

wud be certainly good for Szczęsny as he will get more matches to play in. Hope we put in some clause or send him on loan if ever the deal is going to take place.

No problem Rob, Swansea are one of the few sides in the lower leagues that play good football, that would suit Wojciech as he likes to keep the ball on the floor.

    Well done Walcott.

I don’t know if this is a good idea for Szczesny. I’m not saying it isn’t but Wenger will probably have to think about it. Mannone didn’t gain much from his experience at the same age. If he will challenge for the number one jersey then I think it would be good, but if he is just brought there as a back-up for a conservative coach then I don’t know about it.

Frank_Butcher, I would’ve said that Sczezny is the second best keeper behind Fabianski. Almunia is obviously the all-round better keeper (I don’t think Fabianski’s too far behind though) but I think Fabianski and Sczezny are much more talented.

Oh and great game for Theo, he somehow made England good to watch. What’s important is that he does the same for us :).

potentially, szczesny is our best goalie above all the 3 ahead of him currently. he will be a world class keeper one day if he develops properly. he has all the properties of a good keeper: composure, strong mentality as well as good technique.

Wow, that’d be a massive move for the kid, especially if he gets some playing time, i meen just considering his age and the the fact hes a goalkeeper, u wouldent really expect him to be a realistic first team player for any league side, but i suppose that just shows his quality.

Personally i hope Mannone gets a loan move, simply because i think hes more likely to get games due to his age and therefore he’d benefit more. However if Sczezny got a chance it’d be great and if he got a run of games (and did well) that’d be a massive step for him.

There is the potential in Wojciech, but I doubt he will be better that Lukasz.

technique wise, both are good, Lukaz may be better at this moment. what szczesny superior to fabianski is his mental strength. Lukaz can be superman in a game, but once he made a mistake, he seemed like to break down. besides, he looks very nervous in big game. goal keeper is a bit special on pitch. you must live on yourself, cope with your mistake and recover from the hurt soon. that’s what we’ve seen from mad jens.

Arsenal will not loan out Szczesny to just be back up,A shit no hoper like Mannone would be allowed to leave on loan though.

I wouldn’t say Mannone was a no hoper, but Tech 9 is a far better prospect in my opinion. This kid really has the potential to be a fantastic stopper and something we have been looking for since Seaman retired. If he makes it, we could have a solution for the next 12-15 years.

Stone, we still had Lehmann after Seaman retired who was a fantastic keeper, but he was well into his career when we bought him.

I think cc has a good point about mental strength.
