Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny has told Polish newspaper ‘Gazeta Wyborcza’ that he intends to spend some time out on loan in the next three seasons, after confirming the details of his new professional deal.
The 18-year-old penned a new three-year-contract with the Gunners last week, and has spoken of what the extension means for him, as well as quashing speculation that he is unhappy in the capital.
“The Club says that the first contract a young player signs is only on the basis of his talent and potential. The second, a professional deal, is the choice of Arsène Wenger. The fact I have got this contract gives me hope that I am in their plans for the future. I feel really fine in London, if this was not the case I would have gone elsewhere”
Wojciech has stepped up a level this campaign in being made the first choice for the Reserves, yet he has kept his role for the Under 18’s, due to a special ‘loop hole’ in the Academy League rules. He continued by saying that being named in the Champions League squad didn’t bother him, because he has firm eyes on being first choice.
“My plan for the next seven years is to become Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper. Therefore, at this point in time, it doesn’t bother me if I am number 3 or number 4 choice. For me, this contract means that the Club believes in me, and that they do not want me to go anywhere.”
Earlier in the month Szczęsny was linked with a loan switch to Championship outfit Swansea City, and although that move never came to fruition, he does have an eye of gaining experience.
“I would expect that for at least half a year, I will end up being loaned out. It’s necessary for me, because it’s rare that a keeper’ goes straight into the first team from the Reserves. I need to go out and feel the pressure to win.”

It’s good to see he has ambition but even though he has a seen year plan it may not be enough to get him the no. 1 shirt by defualt. In that time Almunia may retire but there a still to decent young keepers in front of him, realisticly does he have the talent and the patience to knock fabianski and mannone, plus any others that may come in, out of the way?
I think your right JBM, its great to see him with so much ambition but it will be very hard for him to make it as number 1 at arsenal. Personally i think he is better than Manone but nowhere nr Fabianski’s quality yet, so he could end up being number 2 years to come, and if he is still ambitious then, well he may wish to move on and be a number 1 at some other club!!
Good look to the lad though, another quality player in our youth set up!!
from what i’ve seen on arsenal.tv sceszny looks as though he could certainly become first choice within years
Almunia won’t be number 1 for more than one or two seasons more, as Fabianski will take over. Then Almunia will move on/retire and Mannone will be sold. Szczesny and Fabianski will then battle it out.
Who’s better in terms of raw potential, him or fabianski?
him
From what I’ve seen of him he just looks like a complete natural goalkeeper and he is totally fearless too, certainly one to watch. In 7 years time he will be 25, I don’t think its unreasonable to believe he could be number 1 by that point.
looool he really wants to be here for a long time. 7 years time he will be 25. another ten years after that and he will retire or leave us to go to a small polish club, thats 17 years. the the 2years pro contract he got before i think. that makes it a nearly 20 year arsenal career. thats if it goes to plan for him.
this guy and fabinski will be the future in goal of AFC ,makes you wonder when vito will get the boot . It is hard to judge a goal keeper at a young age , the likes of david james and most other shot stoppers in the EPL dont really mature until they are 30+…
I think this is definitely the hardest position to recruit for in arsene’s pursuit for new YOUNG GUNS ..
good article … keep up the good work
I think vito is still ahead of him at the moment he was fantastic against pompey and i guess wenger must see it this way to seeming he made mannone third choice.
I don’t think players should be pecking ordered by age. just see how wilshere got promoted ahead of a lot reserves players older than him. we shouldn’t waste time on mannone. the sooner AW give szczesny a chance the better. I see him our own casillas, had he got a chance.
It’s good to see a player with a long-term plan for his career. I wish him luck, he certainly looks promising.
Seeing as Arsene has offered , Randall , Gibbs, Szczesny new deals that leaves Simpson , Hoyte , Steer, Ogogo , Dunne , Fonte (loan) all there contracts will expire it wont make sense rejecting bids from millwall but yet letting him go on a free
who says they will let him go on a free? I mean, it’s not even october yet, and they have until last december to negotiate contract, so there are no hurry. Maybe the staff want to see them this half of year to be able to make a fair opinion about the players ability. Beeing named best player in League 1 isn’t good enough for arsenal, when the youth/reserves team smashes a CCC team like that.. it’s too big space between the qualities of the leagues.
i fink people shud calm dwn bein named league1 player of the year @ 19 n bein played out of poition n in a hard tackling physical league which is a bigg step up from playing derbys reserves is no easy feat hes got raw potential give him time he could become an eduardo type player n he could give us a good physical aspect wat u fink j
Jay Simpson isn’t going to make it with us mate, what makes you think he’ll be given chances ahead of Adebayor, van Persie, Bendtner, Vela, Eduardo and Walcott? And even if he did, he has the presence but the control and general movement of a striker is lacking, he isn’t an especially good finisher annd this is what people don’t understand, finishing is a skill, you can’t learn it if you don’t know the origins.
How many deadly players have there been before Eduardo? Robbie Fowler is all, in our generation anyway. If Jay Simpson is going to become as clinical as Eduardo, we’d have seen it for the Reerves already.
I’m all for giving him a chance, but his chances of getting a start in the Carling Cup are rare, let alone the first team. His days are numbered and if we can get a decent fee for him aswell as giving him the chance of first team football, well then everyone’s a winner.

to say he is better than fabianski is an understatement. if he was better wenger would have named hium no 2 dont u think. i have watched him always
he is no where near fabinaski. for me fabianski is better than almunia for 3 reasons. 1. he is quicker. 2. he reads the game well and more agressive than almunia which is a good quality of a good keeper 3. he keeps the ball to himself unlike almunia he gives too many corners away and cany keep the ball to himself most times
gunnerowatz: in your logic, fabianski should be our No.1 keeper.
1NCE AAIN I RESTATE WE MUSN’T GT EXCITED SIMPSON HAS A CHANCE THE SAME CHANCE THE LIKES OF HOYTE, ALIADIERE,QUINCY WER GIVEN N I NO DEY DIDNT SUCCEED BT DE POINT IS DEY HAD DER CHANCE 4 MANY YEARS ITS DWN 2 HIM WETHA HE SUCCEEDS OR NT ARSENE IS PATIENT
AFTA ALL LETS BE REALISTIC 1N DAY 1 OF V PERSIE ADEBAYOR VELA EDUARDO WALCOTT BARAZITE OR BENDTNER WILL GO OR OTHA FINGS WIL HAPPEN LETS JUST SUPPORT DE BOY N WISH HIM THE BEST OF LUCK
