Arsenal V Coventry City – Under 18's – Match Preview

Three wins from three games firmly establishes Arsenal’s Under 18’s as the side to beat in the Academy League, it’s Coventry City tomorrow morning who will aim to end the Gunners unbeaten run and get some much needed points on the board.

City are also beaten with a win and a draw from their two fixtures, but desperately need a victory to keep up with the early pace setters who have already played three games. Steve Bould has admitted his sides performances have been poor in the last two weeks, but it’s credit to the quality in this team that they have scored 7 goals without controlling the play.

Coventry are unlikely to trouble Arsenal at London Colney, but there is a sense that with the poor performances in recent weeks, it seems only a matter of time before the Under 18’s get punished.

The form of Gilles Sunu, Sanchez Watt and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas have helped carry the youngsters, added to strong performances from Henderson, Murphy and Frimpong – mean individual talents are ruling the roost over the lack of a strong team game.

Predicted Starting XI

Shea
Eastmond – Ayling – Cruise – Evina
Frimpong – Thomas (c)
Sunu – Henderson – Watt
Murphy

Prediction – Arsenal 4-0 Coventry City

The game is an 11am kick off at London Colney, it’s free to go and watch the game – but should you not be able to get to the fixture, you can read a Match Report tomorrow afternoon here on Young Guns.

In other news, LOL at This.

hard to beleive the online gooner still published crap like that. Brady is a legend and is excellent at developing the young players in the right manner.

I think you are right that individual brilliance is masking average team play right now.

just some observations from watching the highlights of various matches over the last 2 weeks. Frimpong seems to gett alot of good press here and other places, but whenever i’ve watched him he’s been pretty poor. gave the ball away many times against Bristol City, and a couple of times in very dangerous positions. does he really have it in him to succeed – Thomas played way better than him, and seems a better bet to maybe break through, even allowing for him being slightly older.

Secondly, and only speaking from recent matches, but eastmond seems to be underrated, or at least unsung. he played pretty well, and also brings the ball out of defense with alot of confidence. he doesn’t make many headlines, but wouldn’t mind knowing what you think of him.

Finally afobe – is he going to be part of the u18 squad? he must be close to laying a claim for at least a place on the bench? what do you think?

it’s a credit to Brady that talent is winning out of a team game. All underlined writing in the articles are links mate.

Luke Ayling is a good talent, but i think he is far from getting a place in the Reserves team. A good player, but nothing special.

Cant be bothered registering at Onlinegooner to comment, so I will do so.

That was a very poor, ill researched article from someone who clearly does not understand how the youth system works in the UK.

    2 main points.
1: kids must be recruited locally for the academy. unlike most countries in europe. This limits the academy to youths immediate to the club.

2: if “onlinegooner” ever bothered to listen to Wenger he would know that youth devlopment is a 10 year process. Maybe he should look into how many of the first academy team to come all the way from the under 9s signed a proffesional contract this year. When he gets that number he should look into how extremely rare it is to produce so many players good enough to be proffessional.

After he has done that he should print a retraction or explain how despite the mounting evidence to the contrary someone better could be brought in to replace Brady.

Neal S – Bang on, not only that, why blame Liam Brady? David Court has also the same role as Liam, but he gets no blame?.

The Club is going in the right places at least in terms of Youth development, barking up the wrong tree.

Nirgoon – He has not had the best start to the season, but watch the highlights from last season, he was fantastic. It’s just the team is not playing well at the moment.

Nope, but he has played a lot over the last two weeks, with the Cannes tournament. So i would expect him to be rested.

All of Brady’s hard work will be coming to fruition with the likes Wilshire, Lansbury, Simpson, Gibbs, G.Hoyte and Randell who i don’t rate but others do. Then you have the like of J.Hoyte, Bentley, Sidwell, Pennant, Harper and countless others, who have all left Arsenal for different reasons, are now playing in the Premiership/Championship. So imagine what those in are youth academy now, who are supposedly the best group yet, will do in 1-2 years time.

given mu user name you could say i am slightly biased in this debate!!!!!!-however if you look at the England squads and see the amount of young english talent at Arsenal -i think that is enough evidence in itself to show liam and his team are doing an excellent job.Add to that the professors comments about the technical quality of last years under14s and under 16s and i think i can safely say case closed the defence rests its case!!!!
