Arsenal's Özyakup Tipped For Success By Ex Team Mate

Summer signing Oğuzhan Özyakup is already proving himself as a fantastic addition since his switch from AZ Alkmaar in July, yet most fans are still unfamiliar with the Dutch born Turkish midfielder.

Özyakup’s first games for the Club saw him help the Under 16’s win the Zinédine Zidane Tournament in France, and after sealing his first medal with the Gunners, he scored against Coventry on his return to England. But to give a further insight on the youngster, Young Guns caught up with one of his former team mates.

Appie is a left back currently playing for AZ Alkmaar C team, he grew up with Oğuzhan and the pair played together shortly before the midfielder sealed his switch to London.

Appie spoke to us yesterday telling us about the following:

  • How He First Met Oğuzhan
  • What Ozzie Likes To Do In His Spare Time
  • His Qualities As A Footballer
  • His Favourite Club
  • His View On Whether Oğuzhan Will Settle In At Arsenal

Hi Appie, How did you first meet Oğuzhan?

“I met him first when I was very young, we were playing together with a bunch of friends at school, until we were signed by different teams. He played for a team called Hellas Sport, and me Zilvermeeuwen.”

“We were both scouted, and we both signed for AZ. After that we grew closer and we would speak a lot in training.”

What type of person is he?, and what does he like to do in his spare time?

“He likes to have a good time, he is very friendly with people, and loves to go to parties. But also he spends much time with his family, they help him a lot.”

What type of player is he? and what are his qualities?

“He is a midfielder, who can play on the winger or in the centre. He is elegant, but can also be aggresive. He is great at 1-1 with the goalkeeper, and has a very very powerful shot.”

Can he speak English? and what other things does he like?

“Yes he can speak English, many people do in Holland. He only really loves football, everything he does it about football. Oguzhan’s favourite club in the world is the Turkish team Trabzonspor.”

“Sometimes when he is not playing football, he is out with his girlfriend or something, and a lot on his computer.”

Finally, do you think he will settle in well with Arsenal?

“Yeah  I really do, I think he will have great success.”

Nice one JS. Don’t know how on earth yuo managed to interview an AZ C player but still great work. In the light of the fact that his favourite club is perhaps a less obvious turkish one; do you know if ozyakup would choose turkish nationality over dutch? Also what do you think his prospects are for the carling cup in the next couple of seasons?

Again, quality. Not sure how you even contact a AZ’ C player. Nevertheless, quality.

Nice work J. dunno how yuo do it! do you reckon ozzie will basically just be a U18’s player or could he make it to the reserves this season?

Also i was wondering who you reckon is the best out of our crop of young defenders, anyone likely to make the carling cup squad?

I neva realised Frimpong as that gd looking.

Nyway, aside from that he sounds like a lovely lad and a real prospect. You only have to look at the fact that he was in the U17 dutch side at the U17 euros, but at the age of 15 and got soem playing time despite that to know he must have something. Cnt wait to finally get a glimpse of him but sadly like Afobe i recon it could take a few months.

    U neva know thou…
