Best Wishes To Man United Youngster Rodrigo Possebon

Whilst Arsenal’s youngsters were busy smashing Sheffield United to pieces last night, Manchester United took on Justin Hoyte’s Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.

During the game Boro’ captain Emanuel Pogatetz jumped in for a tackle on promising United midfielder Rodrigo Possebon, a challenge which looks to have broken the youngsters leg. Possebon is regarded as one of Man Utd’s biggest prospects, and was being scouted by Arsenal before eventually signing for Alex Ferguson’s side.

Not only was the tackle poor to see at any level, but yet again it opens the debate over young players not being able to express their talents without risk of such injuries. Gooners have first hand experience over this – Eduardo had his leg broken against Birmingham – so Young Guns would like to wish Rodrigo all the best and hope he is back soon.

Of course Eduardo did not always receive such support from fans, including those of Tottenham and Manchester who decided to sing terrible songs about his injury, yet still, any injury of this kind is shocking.

This is the FA that decided awarding a goal for a ball that isn’t even near the net is an OK thing to uphold.

    Bunch of fucking idiots.

Obviously any serious football fan wishes the guy a speedy recovery and being a fellow Brazilian our very own Eduardo will help him through this.

But what on earth do people expect when you get media muppets like Lawro going on about “Jessie’s” not liking “strong whole-hearted” challenges.

And I bet because this is Man Utd and not Arsenal and because the player that committed the foul was foreign and not English it’ll make all the difference to the media.

Best wishes to the lad, hope he recovers soon. It really is about time this kind of stuff got stamped out of the game. It’s happening more and more now and the FA is still living in the dark ages. I remember how much it pissed me off when Eduardo got his leg snapped. When it happens to a key player in your squad, it can be much more detrimental than losing a game. And it shouldn’t make any difference to football fans whether it’s an Arsenal player, a Man United player, or a Tottenham player, when an up and coming player with his whole career ahead of him gets his leg broken in half by a clumsy tackle, it’s never a laughing matter.

I’m all in favour of the English game staying physical and fast-paced, but there has to be some kind of perspective in terms of how far you can take it. We shouldn’t be seeing things done to players on a pitch where if it happened in the street, the perpetrator would be arrested for assault.

I’ve been warning about this for ages now. But, if you listen to people like Megson, Nolan, Davies, Hansen, McLeish, Muamba, Shearer and all the ludicrous apologists for dirty play, then the fact that he got the ball exonerates him from anything that happened afterwards. There, but for the grace of God goes Gael Clichy. If you point out to ANY of the above just how dangerous this studs up tackling has the potential to be they laugh in your face and tell you you’re a wimp and bleat on about how it’s a contact sport and a man’s game. Poor Possebon should make everyone, including the FA take a very close look at their Thug culture but we know they won’t because he’s not an England International. If the same thing had happened to Gerrad we would never hear the end of it. I sincerely wish the lad all the best.

It’ll be used as a stick to beat Arsenal with while they highlight why this was much worse than the Davies tackle on Clichy… which it sounds like it is but this is the angle they’ll take. It’s the english media. Xenophobic and Arsenal are the enemy to the good old days. Like watching an 80’s Liverpool team pass the ball about in defence and back to the keeper in 5 minute cycles.

Had the misfortune to listen to ian “exLegend” Wright on talksh*te Radio last night. He was banging on about how in his day if a player went in hard on you, then you just got straight back up and ‘showed him’ what a good player you were until the ref booked the fella! He was responding to criticism of Nolan saying he told a team mate to kick Theo and also the fall out from Kevin Davies ‘challenge’ on Gael.

Obviously Arsenal players should just get on with it, even if they have a broken leg.

I wonder if Ian Wrongun will be saying the same shite about the young United player?

I totally agree Eboué it does make a difference what team you play for and what nationality you are when it comes to the FA. I was furious about the one on Clichy saturday but it seems that people accept these kind of challanges. The guys who do these things don’t belong in football. They are criminals, they lack skill and when they see someone who’s better than them and this case younger than them. This is how they act!!

Commentators and pundits who support these kind of challanges should be banned from the game too. This has nothing to do with football. When you lose the respect for the opponent and you can’t see the difference between a criminal tackle and a commited one, you don’t belong in football!

I think these things reflect on the society too, when you see violence increased in the last years in England. And we as a football community don’t send out the message that violence is wrong! I think it will have an even worse effect on the society in years to come…

I can give you an example of a player in Holland who played for Wigan Bouaouzan. He broke some guy’s leg and was banned for half a year and had a massive law suit against him ruling him to pay compensation for the damage he caused. The worse about this story the guy who broke his leg can’t play football anymore it was that bad!!

Yeah i hope the lad recovers soon. What i am trying to come terms with is that the tackle was identical to that of Davies on Clichy, i.e. the tackler got the ball but went in two footed with the damage being caused by the non tackling foot. The only diffrence is that Gael was fortunate enough to get away with a gashed and bruised shin. So it seems you have to have a broken leg for people to demonstrate outrage. Presumably the so called “experts” on MotD would be a 100% behind Pogatet’s tackle just as they were for that of Davies.

I agree, there was very little difference between Davies’s challenge and the one from last night. Clichy was extremely lucky to get away with just a severly bruised shin.

I just wonder whether Fergie will get ridiculed like Wenger did when he lambasted ‘Tiny’ Taylor.

it was a disgusting foul and he should be banned for a while by the FA. it was as bad as Taylors on Eduardo. Davies on clichy was similar. had davies slightly mistimed his and gone straight into clichy rather than at an angle then his leg would have been broken as well.

i’ve seen the tackle. its very high, just below passebon knee. if somehow his leg stuck to ground like eduardo, his leg would break at knee joint and that’s the end to his footballing career. my point is, ban this kind of tackle immediately and the offender must be punish heavily too. or just because some people think english game should be tough and rough, they let this tackle flying every weeks, presumably until an important england international has to end their career because of that(i say rooney or gerard), maybe they start to think otherwise.

Throw the leg crunchers out of the game. I wish Possebon well and I hope that Middlesbrough have the guts/humanity to give Legbreakerbuggertetz a hefty fine, take away the captaincy and ban him for 10 gaes. Itll never happen, though.

Some challenges you see, like yesterdays, have no place in football and every club, fan, and player, should unite to throw these sorts out of football.

Only when players see that the challenges won’t be tolerated, will we see a cleaner game. Currently though, even ‘leading’ pundits encourage such challenges (for example MOTD). I mean, I doubt the Eduardo challenge was intended to cause injury, but the MOTD presenters said he was “just letting him know he was there”. How can that be justified?

I dislike seeing any player get injured, through bad challenges or just bad luck. So get well soon Possebon.

I’m pleasantly surprised at this article.I’m glad to see such genuine respect for a big rival’s player.Cheers to the young guns for taking such a decent stance.Promising youth players need to be protected and tackles such as this one shunned by all football fans.Furthermore, I’m a man u fan along with a lot of my mates and we all felt bad for eduardo when he was injured, it’s the worst time in any athlete’s career when they are injured.Get well soon Possebon
