Bischoff – 'Bremen Forced Me To Play Despite Injury'

New Arsenal midfielder Amaury Bischoff has blamed former employers Werder Bremen for his long term injury problems, with the youngster saying manager Thomas Schaaf forced him to play despite the fact he frequently complained of pains.

Amaruy was speaking during an interview with the Club’s official Television channel Arsenal TV, and was asked about how his injury issues arose.

“The injury crept up on me really, i started feeling some pain after training. My manager said to me ‘I think it’s OK for you to keep playing’, so i kept playing. But it was not getting any better, and i was in alot of pain. This went on for 1-2 months, in the end i said ‘I have to have a break, I’m playing in too much pain’.”

Bischoff also cleared up the confusion over his nationality, as although he was born in France, he now represents Portugal at Under 21 level.

“I was called up to the French Under 18’s, but when i moved to Werder the French manager called me and said ‘If you go abroad i will not select you for the team’ He only wanted players playing in France. So i made my decision, and went to Bremen. Then i met a player called Hugo Almeida, he heared i had a dual nationality, and he spoke to the Portuguese FA and told them.”

“They came to watch me 3-4 times in games as well as training, and they called me and asked if i wanted to play for Portugal, and i went to play for them!.”

He went on to look ahead to his return which will be for the Reserves in the next month or so, but also cited the Carling Cup as an important competition to hone his talents, enthusing ‘I am happy to play anywhere for Arsenal’.

Many are left a little ‘in the dark’ over Bischoff’s style, he confirms that he likes to operate in an attacking manner, and then confirmed some of his football idols.

“I like to base my game on players such as Xavi ( Hernández) and (Andrés) Iniesta. They play for others, not themselves, and i love that. They like to pass and move the ball, and i really enjoy that.”

Can’t wait to see him play. I can’t see him being a flop. Wenger tracked him for a long time and I am sure he has some big talent. Maybe he will not be an important player for us but I do believe that we will all be surprised to see what he has.

Very much agree, he seems also to have a passion to play good football too, and in alot of ways it’s better we got him injured.

He now must work hard for hs place, but also will want to repay the manager and the club.

If you think about it, all these people pointing to him being injured for so long, hasnt played, etc! Should realise that Diaby and RvP and ROsicky have probably been injured for longer and it hasnt ever effected their talent or skill.

I dont think he will be in the reserves for long, maybe 2-3 games to get match fit

It looks like he will be a box to box central midfielder rather than a winger. Perhaps Wenger was right not to purchase.

Seems this guy has some mental toughness which is good for the squad. Also he’s got a couple of years of more phyical development over some of our younger talents.
If the portugese fa snapped him up he can’t be crap.
French football administrators are notoriously crap.

I suspect Bischoff will pleasantly surprise a lot of skeptical Arsenal fans, once he returns to playing regularly and rediscovers his form.

If it’s true what the French under 18’s manager supposedly said to Biscoff, then it’s not a very progressive attitude at all, and someone within the French Football Federation should look into the matter.

Such attitudes could prove to be costly in the medium to long run…imagine if Bischoff turns out to be a big player for Arsenal & Portugal over the next few years…the FFF will be kicking themselves!

Don’t forget the stupid situation where Pires couldn’t get into the team – how could they afford to have that kind of talent not even considered?

“has he played with fonte in the same team?”

I doubt it as he is a few years older than Fonte.

Nobody can make you play injured if you are really hurt mabey he had a niggling injury that stopped him playing at his best but if it was that bad he should have said so after all we live in a free world and like i said knowbody can force you to do something you do not want to do unless you have a gun to your head

I don’t waste my time telling lies or creating news. Let’s leave that to those who are adept at it. It is a privilege to share this info and whilst I intend to give insight to Arsenal fans out there, I also have a responsibility not to disclose the affiliation of my source of anything that would jeopardise the relationship. I can say that Appiah came to London on Saturday and he’s still in the capital as of today 09/09/08. Information filtered through that contact was made here in London. Where? I don’t know. As of this afternoon Arsenal were locked in talks with Appiah and that’s all I will about this. I know nothing more.

Sad to see hes been slightly miss treated in the past. You’d think in a league as developed as the Budesliga and in a side as prolific as Bremen, with a great youth set up they’d have handled his injury a bit better than they obviously had. Not supprised he left.

Also i think any1 not beign picked to represent they’re country because they’re playing abroad is abserd, i meen you wouldent have said to Zidane or Henry “no, not you, only players in France”, so why should it be any different for the youth sides. But no matter, Portugal is a good team and they dont have as much depth as France so it’ll be easier to get into, not to mention the fact that Queiros is a model of sanity when put next to Dominech.

Cant wait for his debut, and i hope he makes it. Look at it this way, unless Denilson really develops over the next season we cant rely on him as back-up for Fabregas, or as an Arsenal quality player, hes not far off but not quite there either, basically leaving us with Nasri and Rosicky, which is great, but if Bishcoff can play anything like Xavi or Iniesta, that’ll be one more body in there, and if you look at Rosickys injury record that can only be a good thing.

Isnt it true that S.Appiah is also having a niggling injury..? Wenger to take another gamble..? This time in a form of more experienced player. Its OK with me. Appiah may have something left to give us or to share to our young guns.
