Loanees – Pedro & Nordtveit Earn Defensive Lessons

UD Salamanca surrendered there first three points of the new Spanish Segunda season this evening after a late penalty handed Sevilla Atlético (Sevilla B) a point at the Ciudad Deportiva José Ramón Cisneros Palacios stadium.

Arsenal loanees Pedro Botelho and Havard Nordtveit both travelled, with Pedro looking to carry his Man Of The Match form against Alaves into the second game of the campaign. Nordtveit was deemed not ready to feature last week but was included on the bench this evening, Botelho started at left back.

The Union began in an attacking manner and were boosted when young defender Óscar Ramírez was sent off for late tackles on Pedro and Dañobeitia. Salamanca failed to capitalise on the extra man advantage, and went into half time needing to regroup.

A better mentality was key to an improvement in quality, and when Marseille born midfielder Stephen Cohen glanced home, it seemed UDS has stolen the points.

Havard Nordtveit was introduced to help sure things up at the back, but a catastrophic error at the back would rescue a late point for the hosts. A mix up between Savo Seville and Pedro Botelho brought a handball and a penalty, with the Brazilians poor defensive awareness being exposed.

Spanish commentators claim the ball hit the hand of midfielder Seville, although Pedro was among those in a crowded box. Perroti stepped up and smashed home leaving manager David Armaral disappointed knowing his side can play much better.

Pedro completed another 90 minutes and will surly go away heeding more defensive advice from the coaches, but learning from your mistakes is key for any youngster. Nordtveit looks like he will struggle to earn a place in an established Salamanca team, but got two minutes under his belt this evening.

There is some interest, and he was watched the other day for Ghana, but from what i heared Portsmouth or West Ham seems like more realistic options.

The rumour has found legs through fans that are frustrated we didn’t buy on the final day of the season, it’s more speculation than anything.

I personally don’t think he will come, and people compare it to Bischoff, but Bischoff has tiny wages and is very young.

cheers for the reply js. i agree, i simply cant see any substance to the rumour other than fans speculation. wengers transfer deals are usually extremely well planned, he clearly couldnt get in who he really wanted so decided to go with what we have. The only problem is that has put himself and the team under pressure…starting at blackburn on sat…we must not lose.

How many games is Nordveit likely to get at CB or ,as he mentioned when he first went Salmanaca, at DM?

Pedro made a big defensive mistake in the last minute with bad consecuences for the team in a game that was almost won.

Apart from that, he played a very poor match, he has probably lost his starting spot.

I hope this is a good lesson for Pedro.

As people have said, best he gets the mistakes out his system whilst on loan.

His poor defensive ability has been a mistake waiting to happen, but going forward he is just excellent.

Big test for the boy now.

Inconsistency is the mark of youth, so surely he can’t be benched for one bad match after a very good match. The manager should be bright enough to wait and see if he has more good games than bad and if not then make a decision how much better the manager’s other options at left back would be. Is the UDS expecting to be promoted this season? Is there a huge expectation on the manager? Or can he

Yes, UDS wants to promote this year, there are big teams in the second division this year, but at least wants to fight until the end.

There is a second option at left back, Sito Castro, he is a very solid player, not as brilliant as Pedro can be, but much more consistent. The manager already had doubts between them for the first match and I think he will give a chance to Sito next week (It´s only my opinion)

Surely Pedro Botelho is best groomed as a left winger in the long run. He atracks better than he can defend. Clichy, Traore and Gibbs are already left backs at the moment. The left wing is only really Nasri and the injury prone Rosicky. Botelho can cover his full back if necessary. Just a thought as i really like the sound of the kid butwondered where his future really was long term.
