Miquel Makes Debut As Arsenal Smash Bristol For Four

Arsenal’s Under 16’s celebrated winning the Zinédine Zidane Cup last week Sunday, but it was back to business on Saturday as Steve Gatting’s boys took on Bristol City at Hale End.

New signings Oğuzhan Özyakup and Ignasi Miquel made starts in a competitive side which included Under 15 starlets Alex Witham and Neil Johnson. The fixture also gave new skipper Benik Afobe the chance to lead the young troops for the first time this season, he partnered Jason Banton in attack.

Midfielders Johnson and Witham helped themselves to their first goals of the campaign, before an own goal all but sealed the victory. Bristol managed to get one back, but Benik Afobe continued where he left off in Cannes with a 4th to help seal a comfortable win.

No points are recorded as there is no League system, but Gatting’s boys remain unbeaten this season. Young Guns is the only place to catch full Under 16’s reports throughout the season.

Johnson and Witham. How good could they be? Sounds promising. By the looks of it Afobe is the best player as not most teams give their striker the armband especially youth, am I right? How would u rate Afobe’s and Banton’s chances. Seem like a deadly duo like Yorke and Cole. 6/10 for Afobe, maybe. Keep up the good work.
P.S. do u think u can add my link to the side. Wud be grateful. Thanks

They can be very good, but it’s still early stages for them. Afobe is a very impressive young striker, and i see Banton as more of a winger than a forward.

Thanks alot mate, and yes i will.

I don’t know the full team, if i find out i will add it, i put as many details as i know.

Ozyakup is doing not bad, i think we are yet to see the best of him, and Miquel has only had a couple of games.

Gunner For Life – It’s wrong to compare players, Miquel is a giant defender, and Ozyakup a classy playmaker. Read the profiles for more info.

Did you not read the article Billy? you can pick up on the score.

“Bristol managed to get one back, but Benik Afobe continued where he left off in Cannes with a 4th to help seal a comfortable win.”

    It was 4-1

Cant wait for Afobe to get his chance in the U18s, sounds like in a season or two we could be looking at him in the same way we’re now looking at Wilshire.

Overall it sounds like the future prospects can only be better than the ones we currently have in the reserves and on the fringe of the first team, and thats scarey when you consider how good some of the current ones are.

J – is there any chance of giving us all the names of the lads in that photo of the team in Cannes. I’m having difficulty identifying some of them.

Sorry fella you seem to hype players from abroad without looking at which players perform on a regular basis.I watched the U16s game from start to finish there was only 1 u15 playing and it wasnt the 2 you mentioned. Ive also watched Ozyakup on 3 occasions he is a tidy sideways player, he is way behind the best midlfielder in the u16s Chuks Aneke. S Gatting didnt start Chuks but it was he who ran the show and provided the passes for the first 2 goals after coming off the bench. Maybe bcos Arsenal paid cash for the Ozyakup he seems to start but unless your Stevie Wonder its clear that Chuks makes the u16s tick. Sorry but if your going to present factual information it helps to get it right.

hi there, but you ignored my last comment. ben glasgow was the only u15 boy to play in this match and hes also on the fringe for the victory shield. i also watched the match and think youll find hes the fast winger, not josh reese who is a midfielder
