Injuries and bad luck are almost common place at Arsenal, but whilst the likes of Tomáš Rosický and Robin van Persie are often highlighted for their poor fitness records, one young Gunner steals the ‘crown’ from the first team duo.
Versatile midfielder Nicholas Yennaris is rated as one of the more promising players in the Under 16’s, but his rise to prominence has seen the Londoner miss large parts of his development with injury. The half Greek half Chinese youngster is currently missing from action and is not expected to play again this campaign after a groin problem during a pre-season clash against Manchester United.
Nico was stretchered off during the 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium in June, with fears his injury could be career ending. Physios later decided he could continue playing on but Yennaris is doubtful to perform again this season – leading to reports that he could be released.
However, Liam Brady and Roy Massesy have shown faith with the hard working starlet who will be aiming to earn himself a scholarship on his return next year. In the brief amount of football the 15-year-old has played Nico has shown great form – including captaining the Gunners to the final of the Willem II tournament two summers ago.
He also played a cameo role as Steve Gatting’s Under 16’s won the Atalanta Cup three months ago and is one of the most popular members currently in the Hale End Academy. Yennaris is not only an incredibly likable guy but his commitment to the cause is also remarkable despite several setbacks in his attempts to make a career for himself in football.
Being with Arsenal is probably the best thing that could have happened to Nicholas with all the experience the medical staff have, coupled with the excellent facilities at both Hale End and London Colney.
Tests of chartacter are nothing new for players on the road to success, so expect to see Nicholas Yennaris back on the pitch next season, ready and raring to go.

Is he a good player?
Hopefully he makes a recovery and realises how lucky he is to play football and stays loyal to the Arsenal.
I’ve never actually heard of him before today? Where’s his best position in midfield?
Half Chinese…now I hope he makes it with us. Imagine if he can become a first team player based on merit alone…all those shirt sales.
Yeah a very good player and a very nice lad. Dissapointing that he has been injured so much but if he can get his career back on track i think he could be a top player.
He is a versatile player, can play anywhere in midfield or defence. He is strong, powerful and a good tackler, but he has a long way to go yet.
What kind of injury does Nico Yanaris have, has he done his cruciate ligament
Is the reserve game at havants ground tomorrow
If hes half Greek and half Chinese but grew up in London and therefore im guessing has UK citizenship, who will he represent at international level?
Yes it is Randall86.
England probably like Emmanuel Frimpong.
Thanks j
Where do you get all your information from? Just asking.
Haha half-Greek half-Chinese! That’s great!
I’m sorry, but I’ve never heard of that heritage before – that’s brilliant! And no, before anyone has a go, I’m half-Cypriot half-English (not quite the same, I know)…
Would love to see someone of Greek descent make it at Arsenal though (Tavlaridis excluded).
hey J, still wondering if you can change the colour of your rss feed text to something other Han white – can’t read it in any of my rss readers, especially on the iPhone.
Thanks.
Droz
They say we have a good medical team, but I wonder with some of the long term injuries players keep getting if this is actually the case.
Is there any other team that has had even close to the number of long term injuries (even disregarding Eduardo’s freak break) that our players have suffered?
I’d say if he gets one my injury – thats it for him at Arsenal. Injury forces a lot of very good players out of the game even if they are super talented. its a shame but it happens.
Kent Paul, you don’t get a crucicate ligament in your groin haha ;-)
you don’t have a cruciate one either :-)
Hey Nico – Great stuff! Keep your chin up and keep working hard – I promise me and Rick Z – friends of your proud papa will fly from America to see you play your first match at Emirates as a member of the top squad – it won’t be long.
did arsenal win the willem 2 tournament and do you have any info on it
Hey Nico – You will be just fine and you will rise to the top! That is all because of your dedication, and commitment ever since you were a kid.
