Arsenal's Barazite Suffers Knee Damage In Derby Defeat

Arsenal forward Nacer Barazite will have a scan this morning to determine the extent of the damage caused to his knees, following a tackle from behind which ended the Dutchman’s evening during the 3-2 defeat to Blackpool.

Barazite has suspected cruciate knee ligament damage, caused after a reckless challenge which meant the 18-year-old was stretchered off. Nacer’s leg will be looked at by Derby County medical staff once the swelling has gone down, allowing an easier diagnosis.

Ice was applied to the knee area in a bid to reduce bruising, but in the end bandages were used to compress the joint and ease the pain. Should surgery be needed to repair the problem, a reconstruction operation would take place, where a tendon graft is used to replace the damaged ligament.

Should the issue not be as serious as first believed, a few weeks rest would be applicable, before a return to regular training around early December.

A rupture would be the worst possible scenario for Barazite, who is due to complete his loan spell on January 1st. The problem can be resolved with pain killing drugs, but the worrying point will be the lack of control the Holland flyer will have when applying weight to the leg, leaving Derby without a first team regular during an important spell in the campaign.

thats pretty bad hope he hasnt done his cruciate ligament, if he has ruptured it he will have to have the operation because you tend to tear your cartilage if you play sport without it being repaired, if he hasnt already tore it as it usually goes hand in hand

Hope it’s not as bad as it appears. I don’t know if any footballer truly recovers from a cruciate ligament injury to the knee. Even Pires wasn’t as good as he was before his injury a few years ago.

Shouldn’t we take him back, considering our physio staff/etc. are state of the art (on paper, try telling that to rosicky), if its bad? I’d be surprised if he’d play again till January 1st anyway if its that bad.

Get well soon Nacer, hope he won’t be out too long since he is vital for Derbys attacking play.

for fuck sake those shitkickers in the championship. Best of luck to you Nacer and heal quickly. I just hope you can continue your progress that you had before this injury. You are a great player and we want you back at Arsenal to score some goals down the Seven Sisters Road in the future.

i straind a my medial ligament last year so i have a vaugue idea of the injury. if its just a strain i exoect about 6-8 weeks (thats what i was told) but with regular physio and strengthening exercises hopefully it will be quicker. what leg is it he hurt? as if its his standing foot (i.e. his foot that he doesnt kick with) it could be worse due to twisting that occurs when kicking a ball.
best of luck to the lad, he should come back better than ever!!

Hey J, this has nothing to do with Barazite, but I was just on Giulleme Ballegue (sp) website and he was talking about 2 younsters Man City were interested in from the Spanish club we got Miquel from.

Anyway, the guy from Cornella said the generous fee Arsenal paid has allowed us to develop 700 youth players.

i tore my medial ligament and my posterior cruciate 3 years ago and continue to play a top level of rugby every week even though i have not had my cruciate repaired, however if nacer has ruptured his cruciate he will be looking at between 8-12 months out, cruel luck.if it’s a strain to the mdeial, like kev said he would expect 6-8 weeks but if he was torn it then more like 3 months if surgery isn’t required and possibly more it surgery is required

Recover fast, and return to the Arsenal. He showed his skill for Derby in the run of games he had, now we should be finding a way to include him in the first team set up (imo).

Words cannot really begin to explain my fury at the moment, I saw it was a tackle from behind on Derby website yesterday, i am absolutely disgusted that players resort to injuring Arsenal players so that their team can win and to my recollection, i dont think the culprit was sent off, what is the bloody ref doing. Wish NB a very speedy recovery and Simon Grayson & his sc*mbags can put it where the sun dont shine.

If he has torn it, depending on the degree, if its a rupture or just a minor tear he will have to go from a knee construction using the patella or hamstring tendon as placement (would be out for 12 months, i’m a physio: so normal people rehab is 15 months but he would have therapy everyday). or if its a minor tear can compensate the lack of stability with increased strengthening of his muscles around the knee. However as he is playing at the top level regardless of which he has surgery will end up being a likely option to correct it.

    Yeah, bad luck Nacer.
But this is one of this risks lending out players at this level. A lot of sub-standard cloggers around. Birmingham City had a guy called Martin Taylor playing for them Tuesday evening – ring any bells?

jw surely its not that long on average? i had a acl reconstruction and my cartilage repaired and i was back to normal (well as normal as it ever will be) in just under 6 months, obviously it will take time to regain fitness because of muscle wastage but im pretty sure i remember nesta having the same injury and within 5 months played an international match although i cant find anything to back that up at the moment tho

It was his left knee mate, Nacer is more right footed, but can use his leg just as well.

i was mainly referring to how a normal patient i’d see if you want them to get back to full fitness and play competitive sport again it does take 12 -15 months on average. ofcourse barazite is a elite athlete and is a gunner who do have some of the best first class medical team there. There is a surgery that is done in Australia just been trialing is on the aussie rules players in the last few years where they use a synthetic ACL. The rehab times in addition to treatment 24/7 plus lots of medications reduced ACL times to 5 – 6 months from time of injury to playing competitively again. So elliot the 5 months you said is very much plausible.

DERBY County’s Nacer Barazite faces weeks rather than months out with a knee injury.

Barazite suffered medial ligament damage during the second half of Tuesday’s defeat at Blackpool and left the pitch on a stretcher.

A scan yesterday revealed the extent of the injury and allayed fears the Dutch Under-19 international was set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
