Manchester City Sign Arsenal Defender Nicholas

Manchester City have signed Arsenal defender Oliver Nicholas on scholarship forms after the England Youth International opted to quit North London in a bid to further his development.

Nicholas only signed a new deal with the Gunners during the summer, becoming a full time player. But despite helping the Under 16’s to victories in the Atalanta and Zinédine Zidane Tournaments respectively, he has found places in Steve Bould’s Group winning Under 18’s a much tougher proposition.

Oliver had no guarantees of a professional option when his contract expires in 18 months time, yet Man City have promised to turn the deal pro on his 17th birthday. They also offered the 16-year-old a place in their Under 18’s, with Reserves football an option before the season is out.

The transfer sees a small amount of compensation change hands between the two Clubs, with Nicholas due to start a new chapter of his career on Monday morning.

Bould has called upon his services just once this term – against Reading – but Ollie has struggled with Luke Ayling, Anton Blackwood, and Thomas Cruise currently ahead in the pecking order, and promising starlets Rhema Obed, Daniel Boateng and Ignasi Miquel showing signs of greater potential.

Everybody at Young Guns would like to wish Oliver the very best in the future at Man City.

He must have some potential, he captained England in the summer. But with the likes of Bartley and Miquel about, I cant see us missing him to much.

My question is: Why does he go to Man City to further his career? I would have understood West Ham or Fulham but can’t see City as a promising option today.

But I wish him the best of luck, probably not the worst option for either of the parties.

He is a good young player, but has opted to go elsehwere rather than fight for a place.

I think the performances of Obed for the Under 18’s and Miquel, Boateng for the Under 16’s forced his hand, there is alot of talent coming through.

Hey, J, just wondering about this. I was playing FIFA 08 on my Xbox 360 the other day and I saw a horrible young goalkeeper named Lee Butcher or something like that. When did he leave and to where? I mean, if he is real. Is he? Thanks.

Oh, and can you add my web blog’s link to your Arsenal links on the right? I’ve added you on mine. Thanks!

What team in Margate? Ryman League? I take that he must suck. Let me see, he should be 19 so he shouldn’t be playing for the 100,000th best team in the world, you know.

Stone: I don’t think its about the money as he wont be on a first team pro contract but more about Citys acadamy and the success in the FA Youth Cup. May have more chance in the shop window so to speak.

It’s quite obvious he has an insider at Arsenal, otherwise no one gets acess to these kind of stuff.
