Bischoff & Frimpong Net As Arsenal Lose To Norwich

An Arsenal XI was beaten comfortably by their Norwich City counterparts this evening, despite goals from Emmanuel Frimpong and Amaury Bischoff either side of the break. A hat-trick from Luke Daley and a tap in from Chris Renton meant it was City who went away with the bragging rights.

Craig Eastmond and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas made their first second-string starts of the new campaign, as Banfield was forced into rotating due to injuries and international duty.

Mannone
Eastmond – Bartley – Ayling – Gibbs
Wilshere – Coquelin – Frimpong – Thomas
Bischoff
Simpson

An uninspiring first half saw neither side really on top, but after a clumsy foul on the edge of the box, a dangerous looking free-kick presented Emmanuel Frimpong with the chance to put his side in front. He stepped up confidently, and after seeing his shot take a deflection off one of the hosts in the wall, the ball found it’s way beyond Nelson to hand the Gunners the advantage.

The tricky Bischoff had a further chance moments later to make it 2-0, as Norwich were rocking. But as conditions went from bad to worse, City found their flow. Dawkin’s powerful drive was a signal of intent, before Mannone was finally breached. Daley got away from Kyle Bartley, before the Italian managed to get a firm hand onto the resulting shot. However, he couldn’t hold it, and after spilling the ball off the post, Daley tapped in for the equaliser.

With the break approaching, Norwich completed the come back. Adeymi was well denied again by Mannone, yet the defence didn’t react quick enough, and Chris Renton was on hand to put his side 2-1 up.

A Daley double either side of the restart meant he would be going home with the match ball, before Banfield turned to reinforcements. The lazy Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was hauled off, Gilles Sunu was introduced to inject some deadly pace.

Kieran Gibbs with a long range stunner hit the side netting, Simpson fired two shots wide, and Jack Wilshere – who looked quite uninterested – was also denied after a jinking run through the Canaries backline.

There was just enough time for some magic, provided via Bischoff. The 21-year-old matched his effort against Fulham, with a stunning consolation. After collecting possession on the edge of the box, the Frenchman unleashed a dipping left foot volley which flew into the corner.

It finished 4-2, with Banfield knowing he has a lot of work to do ahead of the Portsmouth fixture in December.

Sanderson, is Bischoff ready for the 1st team on Saturday vs Man City seeing as Theo is out? Ready for the bench?

Wilshere and Gibbs are probably more likely to be involved. I’d like to see Bischoff be given a chance in the first team though, he looks a good prospect – especially for a ‘gamble’!

Wilshere is already being a diva. Oh dear. A common trait in Wenger youth it seems.

Randall should be involved on Saturday, even if it’s via the bench. And yep, Bischoff is proving himself to be fantastic.

So what kinda team did Norwich put out and how many first teamers? Anyway Bischoff says he is an attacking midfielder but can also play on the flanks. May be worth a shot in the first squad. Disappointed to see Ayling go off cos I think he is one of Arsenal’s brightest defenders as a right back but maybe it was because of the score.
It seems like the balance wasn’t right compared to the Carling Cup team as the defense was poorer and Thomas doesn’t complement Arsenal’s style as a winger especially losing that fluidity, flexibility and movement from Merida and Ramsey. Randall not on International duty.

Kris Renton is a promising young striker, Scottish youngster. Obviously Daley appears to be the pick of the bunch, but from looking at the line-up’s, you’d have to say Arsenal looked the stronger side.

Bischoff wasnt amazing today and didnt seem to get in the game although Eastmond and Cruise were to blame for Norwich’s goals. Also Mannonne’s shot stopping was good but his kicking was awful in the first half and we kept giving possession away cheeply everytime we had a goal kick.

Sorry not Cruise, Ayling was the culprit!

Surprsing result really. Our only first team squad player was our sub keeper who hasn’t ever played for us. All others, except Lappin (rejected first team player yet to appear this season), were less than 21 I think.
Renton and Adeyami are probably the best prospects there along with 16 year old keeper, Jed Steer (targetted by Chelsea recently) and Luke Daley obviously did his reputation no harm.

I saw the game and felt bischoff didnt really get involved in the game but came up with an ace finish.
Frimpipong and Conlequin lacked some creativity i felt.
Wilshire sparkled on the ball but not looking as lively as he has done recently. He and Bischoff each had a go at playing off Simposn in the 1st half neither to great effect. Wilshire moved to CM in the second half but lacked energy aside from his occasional burst through the Norwich midfield.

I thought norwich were a physical side and i was glad to see some of the lads muscling in. i felt we lacked some sharpness and creativity and were unfortunate that when ever the cannaries got a chance they took full advantage of it.

What do you mean about Wilshere? I hope he is not starting to think he is to ‘big’ for reserve football!

NORWICH CITY: Nelson (Steer 63), Francomb, Eagle, Adeyemi, Dumic, Lappin, Daley, Lathrope, Kienast (Habergham 18), Renton (Omoregie 90), Dawkin. Subs not used: Clark, Stephens.

Of that lot only Lappin has more starts for us than Gibbs… and Roeder doesn’t rate him so he’s not played a first team game for over a year. Nelson is our sub goalie, signed on a free this summer having previously been with Orient, yet to make an appearance for the first team. The last of Eagle’s three starts was 18months ago and he’ll no doubt be leaving this summer. The rest are our U-18 team, though some of them have only just turned 17. Haven’t heard of Kienast before so am guessing he’s a trialist.

Roman Kienast (listed on the team sheet as “Danny Kelly” ) is a 24 year old Austrian full international who played in all three group games of Euro 2008 as a substitute.
Apparently Szczesny has broken both wrists and is out for at least eight weeks .
Incidentally ,the attendance for the game at Carrow Road was 7138.

No disrespect to Norwich but that Arsenal team should not be shopping 4 goals to any team. that is a strong team with lots of very highly rated players. I have to say losing 4-2 with those players is an even bigger shock than losing 2-0 at home to Villa. It was close to the team that thrashed Wigan only a week earlier.

We suffered with about 4 very poor performances in the team and when 3 of those are in the back 4 it’s not surprising that we shipped goals. On the night Norwich looked the more organised and more determined team. We had some clearly talented players but they need to be part of a team not playing individually.

Players that stood out for us Bartley, Wilshire and Sunu (when he came on) Players that had a stinker Eastmond, Ayling, Gibbs and Thomas.

We played 4-5-1 with Simpson up front on his own. We passed Norwich to death but they were young ,fit, and organised. They also played with a purpose that we did not. They won deservedly. The pattern of football was very similar to our first team lots of the ball with little end product. These boys can pass, but i wonder if the individual flair is being coached out of them at the altar of safe passing posession.

Does anybody know why Randall was left out of the team? We are not short of first team players to give him a place in the squad against Man City.

You Arsenal lot need to be looking at those Norwich youth lads. Stars of tomorrow.

Luke Daley, Kris Renton and Tom Adeyemi all played amazing.

Also, in your report, you mentioned bad weather conditions. There was no rain, there wasn’t a lot of wind. In fact it was quite warm. Excuses excuses.

Outplayed, and outclassed. ON THE BALL CITY!

Hmm. Sounds familiar this passing other teams to death and losing.

Jay, a bit off topic, but there’s word about that Vela might be put out on loan again. Any truth to this? That would take the biscuit for me. He’s the very guy we need to fire up in the first team at the moment.

With the sorry news about Theo and our injury problems is there any chance Mark Randell could be given an attacking role in the 1st team. Whenever he played last season in an attacking position for he did really well. Given the limited attacking success we’ve had recently I’d definitely give him a run out.
