Fulham midfielder Dominic Vose will begin day three of a week long trial with Arsenal tomorrow morning, as the Gunners go head to head with Manchester United for the highly rated play-maker.
Vose spent last week at United’s Carrington training complex undertaking a similar type of work out, as both clubs look at the prospect already dubbed “The New Paul Scholes”. Despite being likened to one of Man Utd’s players, it’s Arsenal who are favourites to trounce the Premiership Champions and snap up the 15-year-old – as they did with Aaron Ramsey over the summer.
Having come through the youth system at Fulham, goalscoring antics for their Under 16’s over the past two campaigns have brought the attention of the countries biggest Academies – keen to recruit the hottest talent around.
Dominic will work with Steve Gatting’s Under 16’s during training, but Steve Lennard and Liam Brady will also take time to make checks ahead of a proposed offer during the January transfer window. The Cottagers are believed to be ready to cash in on their rapidly developing youth system, with figures of £100,000 already being suggested in compensation.
Whilst one young midfielder is close to joining Arsenal, another – Fabian Delph – is strongly being linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium in the coming months.
18-year-old Delph is a strong, skillful and versatile midfielder, who shot to fame after breaking into Leeds United’s first team, and scoring twice against Walsall in the League. His main position is either in the centre of the park, or on the left. Both positions of which the Gunners are stacked with young options in.
He only penned a new deal in September, but the chase for his signature began this afternoon as Leeds rebuffed an offer from Newcastle United. It’s extremely unlikely that Arsène Wenger would pay out the reported £6 million fee for Fabian, especially with the abundance of similar options already at the club.

Nice story Jay.
How do you rate Delph? Is he the same class as Ramsey, because 6m is a huge price tag.
Well we all wondered why Wenger splashed out £7.5m on a new RB. We were all proven wrong there. Of course, this is no garantee that we will go for Delph, that we will get him, or that he will go straight in the first team.
I think he is a good player, but unproven at any serious level and certainly over priced. We have loads of bodies in his position of similar experience and age.
Sagna offered us a defensive spine, so you could see why he was needed. Randall, Ramsey, Merida all very similar to Delph.
2 many midfielders we need more defenders 2-3 will do!!!!!!!! and a goal keeper E.G FREY etc……..
I’d love Vose, but £6m for Delph? I’d rather Newcastle snapped him up, he’s not better than Fabregas, Denílson or Ramsey, certainly not better than Diaby plus we have Randall and Lansbury coming through, there’s no need.
Wenger will never pay £6m for him. We’ve already got players that are just as good, if not better in the reserves, who deserve a chance in the first team.
Well, I don’t blame Leeds asking for that much money. They always seem to get their youngsters taken away from them these days as they are in the lower leagues (E.g. Woods and Taiwo pilfered by Chelsea) Though they did get 5 million compensation in the end. But I bet both of them wished they had stayed now.
It’s nice to see Leeds make use of their Academy so much, must be one of the most productive/successful in England. It’s helping them a lot this season, they recently had a 16 year old come into left back for a fair few games. But at the moment he has been replaced by another 20 year old home grown player.
Delph should stick with Leeds if they get promoted and work his way up the divisions. I can see Leeds pushing for promotion from the Championship if they get promoted this season.
As for Vose, he sounds intriguing, being compared to Scholes and all. Hopefully things will work out well for him. Fulham seem to be producing some good youth players now which is cool, though I bet they will be annoyed about only getting 100k!
Just because Leeds United want £6 Million pounds for him does not mean they well get, and i reckon £4 Million would seal the deal also if Arsene Wenger does buy Fabian Delph from Leeds United he must rate him a better prospect than the likes of Mark Randall and Fran Merida other wise why would he buy him in the first place then.
The same reason I’m not sure about Delph is the same reason I’m unsure about Vose: we have a huge abundance of attacking/playmaking young, talented central midfielders. Ramsey, Randall, Lansbury, Merida, hell Cesc, Denilson and Diaby are still at the start of their careers, and then there is Wenger’s comments about Wilshere to eventually take the ACM role in the hole once he grows up. This is just the first team and the reserves! What about the talent in the u18s and u16s? That young Dutch kid we acquired this summer seems incredibly exciting in his technical ability.
If Vose really is akin to Scholes then I understand being interested in him. But our future at ACM is genuinely the most exciting and assured of any club in the world. Why not figure out the next Sagna or Seaman or Fatty Sol?
kent paul: Considering the amount we’ve paid Barcelona for Merida, I’d be careful about writing off his future career and prospects at Arsenal. It does seem odd that Ramsey and Wilshere have jumped past him in the pecking order, but he is a prominant part of the Carling Cup side and is still incredibly young – hopefully we are starting to see our club be in a position where we don’t have to rely on 17/8 year olds to such an extent we have in the past.
@Samuel – I have a feeling Merida’s performances will force Wenger to take notice.
But here we are talking about possible signings, and suprise surprise, they’re ACMs. I’m starting to wonder if Wenger has a form of positional myopia. We need to be strengthened in so many other positions and other ways.
Just as Wenger says it’s unfair to bring in experienced players on top of the youngsters, it’s the same thing if you create an oversupply of youngsters in the one position.
I just hope the results so far this year make Wenger acknowledge that some things aren’t working, and need to change. We don’t want to have the same results in the next 11 EPL games and be asking the same questions.
Back to topic – the reserves lineup looks great now, and with some strong players still to come back. Balanced, positive, depth, oodles of talent, probably the best I’ve seen.
Excellent site youngguns.wordpress.com and I am really pleased to see you have what I am actually looking for here and this this post is exactly what I am interested in. It’s taken me literally 2 hours and 11 minutes of searching the web to find you (just kidding!) so I shall be pleased to become a regular visitor :)
