Loanees – Simpson To Be Relegated? & Hoyte V Fonte

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal currently have thirteen Reserve team players gaining experience elsewhere. Armand Traoré and Jay Simpson remain in the top flight with Portsmouth and West Brom respectively, whilst Gavin Hoyte, Nacer Barazite and Rui Fonte are playing Championship football for Watford, Derby County and Crystal Palace.

Further down the divisions, League One sides Leicester City, Northampton Town and Scunthorpe United have Kerrea Gilbert, Paul Rodgers and Henri Lansbury, while fellow defenders Abu Ogogo and Rene Steer will ply their trade with League Two Barnet and Gillingham. Two prospects are cutting their teeth aboard – Vincent van den Berg at Dutch minnows FC Zwolle, and Pedro Botelho with Spanish link club UD Salamanca.

In this update you can read about the following players in the following games.

Reports:

Jay Simpson –  West Brom 0-2 Everton – (57 Minutes)
Gavin Hoyte – Watford 2-0 Crystal Palace – (Unused)
Rui Fonte – Watford 2-0 Crystal Palace – (6 Minutes)
Paul Rodgers – Northampton 1-0 Cheltenham – (90 Minutes)
Henri Lansbury – Scunthorpe 2-3 Leeds United – (9 Minutes)
Kerrea Gilbert – Leicester City 2-2 MK Dons – (90 Minutes)
Rene Steer – Gillingham 1-0 Bournmouth – (55 Minutes)

Not In Action:

Pedro Botelho – UD Salamanca 0-2 Castellón – (Injured)
Abu Ogogo – Barnet 1-1 Chesterfield – (Injured)

Jay Simpson – West Brom 0-2 Everton

Jay Simpson played 57 minutes of West Brom’s 2-0 defeat to Everton yesterday afternoon.

The defeat means the Baggies are all but certain to be relegated from the Premiership after just one season. Tim Cahill’s glancing header and Louis Saha’s superb finish did the damage.

Simpson made some excellent runs in the first half, and put in another fantastic shift. Tony Mowbray’s men played some tidy football, but failed to deal with a tenacious Toffees side.

Gavin Hoyte & Rui Fonte – Watford 2-0 Crystal Palace

Gavin Hoyte’s Watford hosted Rui Fonte’s Crystal Palace yesterday, but both loanees were forced to start the fixture from the bench.

The Hornet’s took the lead in the 22nd minute, when relentless pressure tolled, and Don Cowie lashed his 5th of the season. Palace kicked on the second period, but couldn’t muster the equaliser.

Rui’s brother Jose turned the ball into his own net on 72 minutes, before Fonte junior was pulled off the bench with 6 minutes left.

Paul Rodgers – Northampton 1-0 Cheltenham

Paul Rodgers played the full 90 minutes on his return from injury, as Northampton edged out Cheltenham thanks to a goal from Jason Crowe.

Rodgers picked up a booking in second half stoppage time, but another clean sheet more than makes up for it.

Henri Lansbury – Scunthorpe 2-3 Leeds United

Just hours after dotting the ‘I’s’ and crossing the ‘T’s’ on a loan extension, Henri Lansbury’s Scunthorpe were in action against Leeds at Elland Road.

Lansbury was forced to start on the bench after Martyn Woolford passed a late fitness test, but the Iron could have done with their England international after they went 2-0 down in quick succession.

However, free-scoring marksman Gary Hooper notched twice either side of the break to level proceedings. Jermaine Beckford’s second of the game put the hosts back into the lead, where they stayed for the rest of the encounter.

Lansbury came on for fellow loanee Odejayi on 81 minutes, and despite having an effort clawed of the line, he failed to make a serious impact.

Kerrea Gilbert – Leicester 2-2 MK Dons

Kerrea Gilbert racked up another industrious 90 minutes as record breaking Leicester City kept up their unbeaten run with a 2-2 draw against 2nd place MK Dons.

Matty Fryatt’s 5th minute opener appeared to make the game ‘business as usual’. Yet a brace from Peter Leven turned the game on its head. However, the final twist of the fixture came when Max-Alain Gradel made things all square.

Rene Steer – Gillingham 1-0 Bournemouth

Rene Steer started his first game since extending his loan at Gillingham for a further month.

Steer played his part in securing a rare clean sheet, before being replaced on 55 minutes. 3 minutes later Nicky Southall won the Gills the game.

I don’t think that West Brom will get relegated actually. They are quite capable of staying up especially with Super Simpson in their side.

Will Simpson feature against the Arse on Tuesday or is there a clause in his loan deal which precludes him from playing against us.

If Hoyte can’t get in the Watford side what hope has he got for getting in the Arsenal squad?
