Video – Arsenal's Afobe England Goal & Assist

Benik Afobe struck his second goal in as many England Under 17 games yesterday afternoon, as England cruised into the UEFA European Under 17 Championships in style.

The Three Lions were already over the finish line after Afobe and Luke Freeman efforts earned a 2-1 win last time out, and other results went their way. Nevertheless, John Peacock’s boys went out to win against a technically gifted Hungary.

A superb run down the left from Benik pulled and probed the oppositions back line, before the 16-year-old slipped in Jacob Walcott who clipped home the opener. The powerful forward wrapped up the win after, when he reacted quickest to snaffle home from close range.

    Snaffle? I like it.

This kid looks sharp, but as we know being a decent 16 year old and actually cutting the dijon at Arsenal are two very different things. What we do know is if they are good enough they will get a chance, then it’s down to him. Cheers for the update.

Very true, Antonito. Jack Wilshere’s example just shows that if you’ve got talent, you’ll get chances at Arsenal.

    No worries btw

J, it is said that UD Salamanca sign two youngsters from Nigeria in the last transfer window. do you know if they were sign by Arsenal and loaned to Salamanca or Salamanca did sign them?

They are cousins, Arsene’s Bollocks is correct.

Will be interesting to see where Afobe linesup in pre-season, that’ll tell us where Wenger sees him next season. Not saying he’ll be part of the first team, but Randall, Lansbury ect have all been part of pre-season at 16.

His assist was excellent but the goal was extremely lucky by all standards. Good determination though but should have finished better with the first chance. He is a great talent and really has the chance to make it here at Arsenal.

JS is it me or are arsenal english players not getting called up because arsenal are still in the fa youth cup. I mean friampong, jay thomas, ayling, bartley, cruise, murphy, watt, jack wilshere. Apart from Freeman and afobe who would probably be on the bench i am suprised we have not had many call ups. But its a good thing. Also JS in your opinion is Henri Lansbury the best technical english CM in the arsenal youth system?

Sergio – Salamanca having a thriving Youth system anyway, so I think it’s too early to make those sort of links yet.

GUNNA-H – I think Randall’s chances of making it here have been well documented. He needs a spell out on loan.

Henri is doing well, but he isn’t quite putting a shift in for the 90 minutes which he needs to do.

John – Ayling has never been capped for England anyway. Bartley, Cruise and Watt haven’t featured for a long time because of injuries. Frimpong and Jay Thomas are surprising though.
