Arsenal (2) V Man City (1) – Yth Cup (2nd Leg)- Preview

Arsenal’s F.A Youth Cup Semi-Final second leg clash with Manchester City is the fixture which prises Young Guns back into action, with a touch of irony due to the long wait for the much anticipated second leg – a month and 4 days after the pulsating first installment.

Alex Nimely-Tchuimeni’s first half strike looked like it would be decisive in a difficult clash, but a second half rally saw Jay Emmanuel-Thomas force an own goal, before Gilles Sunu was given enough time to lash home a late winner. It means the Gunners have a slim yet important advantage ahead of this evening’s return duel.

The Emirates Stadium plays host to the encounter, with a steady number of supporters expected to add a little spice to what promises to be an exciting evening of football.

Arsenal’s Cup regulars have been given extra time to prepare for this one after wrapping up the Group A title earlier in the month, and Bould will hope his decision to leave them out of competitive action will keep them fresh, and not rusty.

In terms of team news, James Shea should continue between the sticks, in front of a back four which is slowly becoming one of the most consistent in recent years. Coquelin and Frimpong will provide a shield for the more flamboyant Watt, Wilshere and Thomas, who will support lone front man Gilles Sunu.

Predicted Starting XI

Shea
Eastmond – Ayling – Bartley – Cruise
Frimpong – Coquelin
Watt – Wilshere – Thomas (c)
Sunu

Prediction – Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City (3-1 Aggregate)

Live Audio streaming will be available via Arsenal TV Online, with interviews before and after the game.  Away goals count, yet should the scores be level on full time, extra time and penalties will decide the winner at Emirates Stadium. It all gets underway from 7pm.

A Match Report will be available on the full time whistle, with ratings and analysis to follow later.

Long pass behind defences is the key to Man city’s plan in the 1st leg so we need to watch for it.

J, hopefully we will be preparing for a Cahampion League final when we play Stoke in the final game of the season. It is likely that Stoke will be safe and we will have secured 4th place, so it will be a bit of a non-event as first team players are likely to be rested to avoid injury. I was wondering which resrve/youth players might get a run out e.g. Bartley

    Hi there,

I am trying to trace information on two players who, apparently, passed through the lower realms of your youth set-up in recent years, for my blog on English footballers abroad: http:lesrosbifs.wordpress.com

One is Lloyd Butler, who is banging them in for Geylang United in Singapore. He is now 19, and recently moved to Singapore with his family.

The other is George Saunders, who is 20 and was on your books at the age of 12 for a couple of years.

If anyone can offer any knowledge on these two, via old programmes, info, etc, I would be eternally grateful. So far, no responses have come back from the club on my requests!

    Cheers,

Gav (gavstone at gmail dot com)

Tell me bout it Baz. Could hardly see the goals go in. I missed Sanchez’s first goal. Got in there 5 mins into the game. Jack scored a penalty for the second. Kyle Bartley scored a good header from a corner and then Sanchez stole the ball from one of their dilly-dallying defenders before twisting him and slotting in the fourth. Then Manny Frimpong gave the ball away sloppily in the middle which led to their consolation. We eased up in the second half and allowed them onto us. They kinda controlled the second period.

Crocker93 – Our youngsters are good but more importantly (unlike the first team) they know how to WIN matches. Even when they aren’t playing that well, they can grind out a result or raise their game. Also, they know how to defend!

Some dickhead nearly got his head buss when he revealed his Chelsea top towards the end of the game and turned to an Arsenal mob runnin his chops. Stewards took him out before they murdered his fuckin stupid arse! Ha.

“We said at half time that we really ought to try and step it up a bit and I thought James Shea was actually our best player tonight – you wouldn’t normally believe that on a 4-1 result. I thought he was fabulous.

“The back five were probably our best players tonight. Going forward we weren’t great, other than scoring four goals – I know it sounds ridiculous! I thought our back four were the best unit of the night. Craig Eastmond has been steady all year and what he lacks in a bit of pace he makes up for in nous. He very rarely gets done and I thought him, and the rest of the back four, were fabulous.”

This is so, very true (apart from Eastmond being steady all year). It’s what Steve Bould said afterwards.

Scunthorpe beat Cheltenham 3-0 to move into the play-offs, meaning they just need to avoid defeat on the last day to stay there.

    Lansbury scored the third goal.

well, guess youre playing us at liverpool then.
should be a hell of a two legs. watch out for amoo and dalla valle. they ripped birmingham to pieces in the first leg, and then ince helped dalla valla do them in the second. birmingham were never really in either leg. of course arsenal are a different prospect.

    cant wait myself.

hey all … i was in a night club in worthing last saturday just gone and happened to bump into rhys murphy, (no he wasn’t drunk) just thought i’d let you know he didn’t seem very confident about his chances of making it at Arsenal. this is sad for me as he is a local lad but i’m sure he’ll make it some where else.

Shame that he’s not confident, but at least he’s a bit realistic. I used to really rate him, but his injuries have meant that Afobe, Neita, Freeman, Watt and Sunu are all ahead of him in my book.

Ahead of him? Don’t make me laugh, Neita has played 3 times for the u18’s, Afobe hasn’t started a reserve game, neither has Freeman, Sunu maybe but Watt definitely not.

Be interesting to see what happens with him next season, whether he goes on loan.

Rhys Murphy may have had a string of niggling injurys but make no mistake he is a killer in front of goal, and besides he is still only 18 so it is a bit early to write his Arsenal football career of just yet IMO.
