Arsenal defender Anton Blackwood has now returned to North London after failing to impress both Fulham and Crystal Palace during trails.
The17-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and the early signs clearly suggest that the versatile former Northampton Town defender will be on his way come August.
Fulham fielded the prospect in two Under 18 League fixtures, including a 5-1 defeat to Arsenal. He also turned out for Crystal Palace 3 days after the completion of his spell at Motspur Park, but the Eagles were equally unimpressed.
It comes after a frustrating campaign which has seen Blackwood – a former 100m sprinter – make several mistakes for Steve Bould’s Under 18’s, and subsequently fail to make Neil Banfield’s depleted Reserves. However, a bench place for the Youth Cup run will no doubt have softened the blow.
Anton will now be in contention for the forthcoming fixtures, but expect him to be back out on trials in the future.

thanks Johny, I’m after the team that played Pompey the week before

Hi J. Sanderson,
I am a regular visitor to your site and alwayas enjoy reading your articles and readers comments and questions. However, this is the first time I am tempted to ask something. I have just one question that has bugged me for quite a while. If you look at the Arsenal youth, all from reserves to the youngest (even the first team), excuse me for this observation, the majority are of African descent. Why is this? One can understand it for the first team that the manager (i.e. Arsene) chooses them, but what about the youth teams? Many are very young and are certainly brought in by the coaching staff. Or is the Arsenal club surrounded by many african communities? I am thinking of the FA regulation that restricts young players from registering for a club unless they lived within 90 (or so) minutes of travel. By the way I am african, I am only asking out of curiosity.
Where’s Mannone? Szczesny was with the first team against Wigan right?
Anyone know the outcome of the Reserves game?

Davo,
It was Tot 3-0 Ars
And Tot 2-1 Ars in the second reserves match
Much better performance from the lads against a more experienced looking Spurs team. They had Bale, Bentley, Gilberto, Rocha, F. Campbell, Hutton, Chimbonda and O’Hara playing. However, we still dominated large parts of the game. If we had recognised strikers playing instead of Watt and Sunu, i have no doubt we would have won this game.
Bentley scored two wonder goals and Szczesny made some really good saves but their chances came about because of silly mistakes by our defenders and Manny Frimpong who IMO had an absolute nightmare. His vision and general distribution is lacking big time. Coquelin had a poor first half but played much better in the second. Randall still isn’t good enough but had a better game than he has been producing of late.
Banfield is still the biggest problem with this group of players. He seems clueless sometimes. He eventually brought on Afobe and Freeman with 85 mins on the clock as if they were gonna do something in such a short space of time. They should have been on there around the 70-75 minute mark at least. Sanchez works really hard but he’s no striker, his finishing is quite poor. Sunu’s just poor right now. He only has blistering pace but thats not good enough.
Two stood out from this game. JET who can have a big future in the game (and with us) and Szczesny. Shea shouldn’t get a look-in as long as this kid is around.
As there are no other posts relating to tonights champions league match I’d just like to use this one to congratulate Keiran Gibbs. Terrific performance tonight.
ermmm. Jamie. I’m sorry, but Jeorge Birds Arsenal Youth is updating posts much more quicker than you, what’s happened? these used to be updated daily?
*round of applause for young gun and now first team player Kieran Gibbs*
what`s happening with youngguns……where are you Sanderson…you missed quite a few games
Agree with Jonny Burns. Gibbs was fantastic, he really is a great player. He didn’t cope well with Valencia but he is not the only full back who hasn’t. Next season, Clichy will really have to look out to keep his place. It’s interesting to see that us, United and the Scousers all have really good young full backs coming up. We’ve got Gibbs, United got Rafael da Silva (can’t understand why he was nominated as the best young player ahead of Nasri though) and Liverpool have Insua who is a really good prospect, actually better than Gibbs at the moment, I think.
tbh Clichy is much better than Gibbs at left back and Denilson should be in the young player of the year nominations, although they are decided in February so I can see why there are no Arsenal players in it!
The PFA nominations is a farce!!! The whole PFA is run by fuckin Mancs and Scousers!
JS where you at?
TJ, tbf the team of the year last year had more Arsenal players than any other team! but I can still see your point lol
We had those players in the team last year cos we were the best team in the country last year when the nominations were made. That’s why we dominated the majority of the team. You are so correct when you say Denilson should at least be nominated, and Stone is correct when he says he can’t understand why Rafael is nominated ahead of Nasri. Why the fuck is he there? Why the fuck is Johnny Evans there? I’m surprised they didn’t sneak Macheda in there.
I ain’t being funny but my player of the year is Stephen Ireland. Without him City will be scrapping for relegation right now. He’s carried them for large parts of this season. But the PFA don’t look at things like that, like i said they’re all Manc and Scouser lovers. Clowns!
haha ye, fair point
EVERYONE SHOULD MOVE TO JEORGE BIRDS BLOG , HE PUTS ALL MORE EFFORT INTO WRITING ARTICLES THESE DAYS , SEEMS LIKE J.SANDERSON DOESNT REALLY CARE
that’s a bit harsh, maybe he has just been busy for the past couple of weeks, before that his reports were coming out like half an hour after the match. You move to that blog if you want to!
lol at the word ‘move’.
I read both, they’re both great.
As much as i like reading these Arsenal blogs and i still like this one the best, Jamie is allowed to have a life outside of youngguns and is not at the beck and call of everybody on this website.
i also read both and think j’s articles are of a higher standard however recently there has been much less fresh news on here compared to arsenalyouth so iv been reading that more come on j i miss all your articles mannnn
Would like to echo ali and kent pauls thoughts. Think J’s blog give’s a really interesting perspective on the Arsenal youth set up and is far more interesting than the reports on the official site. Kind of makes the youth set up come to life. Anyhow although missing the current updates J deserves to take as much time as he likes.
Back on the Gunner front I’m guessing Keiran Gibbs is now definately in the 1st team squad. Who’s gonna be the next one making it? Also who’s going to the FA Youth Cup semi?
That blog just seems a bit too like J’s and i like what J has going here so i’ll stick with this blog
Or you could read both blogs, I want to get news about the youth team and JB has been providing it on a much consistent basis.
Exactly, I laugh when I read people saying things like ‘I’ll stick with this one’, or ‘his is too much like this one’. Well duhh, it’s an Arsenal youth blog, read both…
J is dead.
J Sanderson is a bellend
J Sanderson is on MSN
J Sanderson is a fruitcake
i miss j
Whoooa. If People Are Gonna Disrespect J.Sanderson Don’t Bother Going Out Of Your Way To Do So ie. Don’t Leave Inapropriate Comments On His Site. We Can All Tell By Thee Effort Put Into This Site That It Means Alot To Thee Lad, But He Does Have A Life Too Outside Of This Site. Appriciate Thee Things He Dose. Don’t Be Harsh.
What’s happened to this site? There’s been nothing new for a while?
Sorry hadn’t read all the above comments before my previous post. J love this blog and have missed the updates recently. Ignore some of the moronic posts keepup the good work and look forward to new stuff from you soon.
Sandersons ON MSN , at least just make up a story if u have too the wait is long taking ur reader for granted
What is J’s MSN?
He’s more in demand than the actual players. What a reporter.
I’d guess from his writing that J is 16-18. If I am correct, he will probably have exams looming. Maybe he has put his revision beofre his blog (quite sensibly)?

can he not inform us though, whether or not he will be here??? He should say there will be no new entries for the next 8 days. That way it save us some time and i stop thinking that arsenal youth has just ended
Well JS has a new girlfriend so it’s not that weird he has taken a little break now.
Why is Wellington being banded about by the gossip columns? Wots the real scoop Jamie, that’s all I wanna know.
He’ll make caverage of the Youth Cup gameso just sit back and relax.
Hope the boys win 2nite
