Wilshere Back Training + Gibbs' England Assist

Jack Wilshere returned to training on Monday morning, having finally shrugged off an ankle complaint which stopped him from linking up with the England Youth teams during the International break.

The injury came at a difficult time for the 17-year-old winger, who had experienced a dip in form after Christmas. However, Jack was just getting back to his best when the sustained the knock in training.

As you can see above, Wilshere was one of a select few Gunners at London Colney this morning. Yet the complex was not quiet, far be it, as the England National team were in attendance ahead of their World Cup clash with Ukraine later today.

Sticking with the England theme, Kieran Gibbs played a pivotal role for the Under 20’s last night as they dispatched their Italian counterparts at Loftus Road.

In all truth, Noel Blake’s side could have lost in the opening 20 minutes, but stopper David Button kept them at bay in a rampant opening period.

England hit back when Scott Sinclair picked out Freddie Sears in the box, but again the ‘keepers were keeping things level. However, The resulting set piece saw the opener.

Marc Albrighton’s dipping corner picked out the arriving captain Ciaran Clark who bundled home from close range. If Blake thought that was an excellent start, it got better 10 minutes later.

Gibbs – who played in an attacking central midfield role – drilled a pacy cross from the left hand side, and after Sears allowed the ball to run though to Daniel Sturridge, the City striker controlled first time, before curling home the decisive effort.

It finished 2-0. Kieran played the full 90 minutes.

And finally, Armand Traoré played 80 minutes for the French Under 21’s on the left wing last night.

Goals from Lorient loanee Gabriel Obertan and Toulouse’s Moussa Sissoko saw Stuart Pearce’s England easily beaten.

I wonder where Gibbs will finally end up playing, recently he has played at left back for the first team…. i think that s more because Arsene doesnt feel he can get a startin berth at cm at arsenal where he started his career or at left mid where he played in the youth or reserves…… for england he has almost always played further up the pitch……. wish i watched the game to see how well he played in CAM position what are ur thoughts jay

He will become Arsenal’s left back for sure if he’s patient enough to wait a few years. I think a couple of years ago Traoré was Clichy’s understudy but Gibbs is looking a lot more solid, and will get more and more games as the seasons go on.

Wilshere has faded a little, but I think it’s to be expected in a 16 year old. It looks like he’s had a bit of a growth spurt as well judging by that photo- now taller than Theo! I think next season we will see JW pushing the first team.

Also nice to see Lansbury scoring for The Iron, although I was disappointed to see him go to a League One club rather than stretching himself at a Championship or even Premiership club. He seems to come a little too much from the David Bentley/Jermaine Pennant attitude school to really make it with the goon, but he has the talent so if he doesn’t make it with us it will only be his fault.

Keep up the good work J

I am sure Wilshere will come in so strongly next season. He has been a bit of a disappointment considering how amazing he was in pre-season and in the CC. But you can’t really blame him, he is still learning his trade.

It also feels so good to see this picture of Theo training. We sure need him now for your hectic fixtures coming up.

I think Kieran gibbs is better than traore. I have seen traore quite alot and he just seems to be all about pace. He does not really beat defenders one on one no ood end product and is composure is not that good. In saying that hes young and will get better in the future but can we hold onto him when gibbs in my opinion is in better shape now
