Arsenal 'Agree' To Sell Loanee Botelho To Xerex

Arsenal have reached an agreement, in principle, to sell Brazilian wing-back Pedro Botelho to Liga Adelante front runners Xerez C.D. according to reports in Spain.

The 19-year-old is currently coming to the end of a two year loan spell with UD Salamanca, and with his constant unprofessional behaviour, it seems the Gunners are keen to offload the versatile prospect.

Arsenal representatives apparently met with their Xerex counterparts while Arsenal played Villareal in the Champions League Semi-Final on April 7th. An agreement was reached of around €300,000 for the youngster who would join up with the ‘Xerecistas” if they saw out their promotion push. That all but looks a certainty now, meaning if the news is to be believed there is no reason why the deal won’t go through.

Botelho has had several fall outs with the Salamanca coaching staff this term, these followed after first he skipped training to go and watch Real Madrid with his friends, and then refused to pay a €200 fine after insulting the referee who accused him of diving. Both resulted in club suspensions.

Yet on the pitch he’s been brilliant. Having drawn a total of 11 yellow and 3 red cards from opponents this term and really impressed both at left back and on the left of midfield.

There have been other reports suggesting a loan spell with Osasuna is on the cards in the coming months, but whatever happens it seems almost certain Pedro won’t be with Arsenal full time this summer.

It seems that Wenger is not that keen on bringing him back.
This might be down to Pedro’s record and behaviour to say the least, or Wenger might feel that he is probably well stocked at leftback.
    Let’s see what happens then.

I thought he wouldnt be able to join Arsenal just yet anyway, due to visa issues? I hope the loan to Osasuna is what is goin to happen. Seems a bit daft selling the fella, before he reaches any where near his potential and for a few minor indiscretions too! Sems like a bit of an over reaction or just Spanish tabloid hackery!

    Spike,
You really think insulting a referee during a game and skipping training to go watch another team play football are *minor* indiscretions? They both represent a problem with things that are a core part of the job of playing professional football for a living.

I thought pedro botelho was going to go on loan to xerex not buy him. He looks a classy player myabe cause of kieran gibbs performances wenger needed to offload a left back. He seems to rate traore very highly

The rise of Gibbs probably made the decision much easier. From attacking POV, they seem similar with bundles of energy and late runs. However defensively Gibbs has shot up plus Pedro will need time to settle.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Traore soon leaves maybe after a season or two. He has had a decent season when he has played but is he anything special over what we have?

Well, if this lad can play left wing, I doubt we’d be sooo eager to get rid. There aint a huge number of quality left wingers about. The fact he can play LB is a bonus. And judging by that transfer fee, that looks more like a loan fee!

Who knows, maybe Clichy will be gone before Traore, Gibbs or Pedro…

    Shit happens

i dont think the LB options should really affect this decision,
gibbs, traore and botelho can all play different positions
it would surprise me if his behaviour was the sole reason for not wanting him back as well, as we’ve been willing to take that chance on certain others, altho it may have affected this decision, if this decision has indeed been made

Alex: Of course he wouldn’t have gone through all that to just sell him. But if he has a terrible attitude and doesn’t turn out to be as talented as we hoped, then you cut your losses. If he was Ronaldo then you can put up with that but the boss possibly thinks its not worth the bother.

“What? Like Cashley Cole dissin Mike Riley? Didnt notice the chavs shippin that odious twat out… ”

So we’re comparing ourselves to those low-rent halfwits now? No thanks, I have standards.

“And, wow! He missed a training session to go see Real masdrid… Jeez fella! Big deal! If thats major to you, then, thats your problem fella! ”

Well it’s not my problem, it’s HIS problem. Try not turning up for work because you went to the football instead and you’ll soon find yourself out of a job. Why is that difficult for you to understand?

“He’s a young lad, living in a new country… If thats the worse he’s done, then I can live with that…”

Fair enough. It isn’t exactly up there with murder or anything… but then I never said it was.

” How about wrappin a car round a lampost, drunk as a skunk… And being banged up??? But that behaviour’s OK… Haha”

Uh… Nice straw-man arguement you’ve got there. Make it yourself? When did I say that sort of behaviour was ok?

I can see that proper discussion is beyond you, so don’t worry yourself about it.

I hope Gibbis is not shipped out next season on loan, Not sure about Traore now, he was sent to a crap club where all their confidence was down.

I think that giving a player on loan has a certain curse on it. Like they are realy good before they leave and realy confident. Then stupid old fashioned managers get to them and change the way they attack.

And all their confidence is drained.

Jay simpson did not play much after feburary. Norvidt failed in Spain. Gibbs had a tough time in Norwhichh last year. Hyote did not play as often as we had expected.

Alot of players who have done ok, comeback expecting to play such as Justin Hoyte, Pennent, Bentley but unfortunatly dont get a chance and will leave. Although im glad we got rid of Bentley and Pennent (Idiots).

Ashly Cole was the exception to the loan thing.

Traore won’t make it at left back, enough said. AW thought he could do well there ‘cos of the congestion at the LM however, he came out flops in all tries. That was the main reason AW loaned him with instructions to be played at LW. The rise of Gibbs has closed that door for him at LB. I also don’t see him getting chances at LM in the first team next season with Rosicky, Nasri and AA all having the ability to play there.

Likely to go on loan once more and sold.

Get over it. Gibbs is a first team player. His defending has improved as evidenced by our game with Manu at Old Trafford and even against Chelsea when we were trashed 4-1.He’s better than Clichy going forward, better crosser of the ball and ability to retain possession. The slip nearly marred his confidence but he’s overcome that.

Clichy should be watching his back. AW has already tipped him as a future LB for England.

The old “You showed me up so I’ll pretend it was a joke you didn’t get” move, followed by an unjustified personal attack.

“The wrappin a car round a lampost while drunk, is obviously (if you were a Gooner, you’d know this) a reference to a certain Tony Adams… We didnt ditch him when he got banged up eother.”

Followed by a suggestion that because I didn’t pick up your half-assed reference to something, I’m not a gooner. Despite the fact that TA6 crashed into a wall instead of a lamp-post. I think the lamp-post was Pennant, since you mention it.

    Howard,
I’m not sure there’s really a lot of difference between Gibbs and Clichy at the moment. Clichy might have more experience, but Gibbs I think is the overall better player. Maybe we’ll see Clichy move further forward.

I think there might be room for Traore – he’s by no means a bad player, we simply have an embarrassment of riches in that position. I think as a LM he offers something that a lot of our choices in that area don’t – he’s closer to being a natural winger than Rosicky, for example. Different games might suit one type of player over the other so handy to have both types available.

Gibbs has been a revelation this season, one of the few positives in a very disapointing season. However, he is no where near ready to be considered 1st choice, IMO.

BUT, if he continues to come on, like he has already, he could well be challenging Clichy by next year…

As for traore? Thats a tricky one… Dunno where he fits in, in the big scheme of things…

Traore may have a problem now. You see, in life, you take your chances. AW pencilled him in to deputise for Clichy at times in the 07/08 season but he came up naught. He is still young but he really missed big chances then; playing against Spurs in the CC, Manu FA, Servilla in CL and many others which he came out flops.

Traore himself came out to say that he thinks his best position is LM so AW sent him on loan to gain some experience there. I believe opportunities may come for him at the LM but for now LB is definitely out of reach. Gibbs has done so well in all the games he’s played and seems to be developing game by game. The negative point was against Manu in the CL but even that everyone recognise that it was an accidental slip; not a mistake.

At the moment, Gibbs has done so well to be dropped as Clichy’s deputy. Gibbs will only become better. Gibbs’ rise is a lesson to all of us that you can’t conclude on a youth player. Gibbs seems to have proved all the doubters wrong. Some fans thought Randall, Lansbury, Simpson, Meriday and Gavin Hoyte stood a better chance of making it but he’s rather squeezed through unnoticed.

The current players at 19 and above will have a tougher time making it at the club. For those on loan, I foresee only Gavin Hoyte making it may be at Rb. I think if Gavin gets a chance and step up at RB, AW might be forced to see the back of Eboue however, Randall, Simpson, Barazite and Merida might not make it because there so many good players in front of them.

There is a big treasure chalice in front of AW regarding the U-18.Players like Jack, Bartley, Ayling, Frimpong, Coquelin, Watt, Murphy, Sunu, Jay Thomas and also Lanbury have big, big chances to make it. Its up to them to make use of opportunities when they come.

In two years time, AW will need to make big decisions whether he needs to keep all these players or let them go and keep Diaby, Eboue, Denilson and all the other fringe players still in the team.

Why cant we keep them all?
We’ve been lacking proper competition and dept in our squad for a long time. Why should we off-load our squad players when we finally have them?

You don’t se Man Utd-fans discussing whether they should sell O’Shea or Rafael, we at least 25 decent players for sure if we are to compete with united next season.

Clichy and Gibbs can battle it out on the left back. Traore can be a reserve on the left wing.

The only players we should get rid off are Silvestre and Diaby, cause they’re fucking shite!

I’d like to see the crop you said from the under 18’s given opportunities (whether it be on the bench or sparingly over the next 4-5 years) than fringe imports like Diaby and Denilson tbh.

Omn Pedro. Wenger and the backroom staff hate attitude problems. It’s why Quincy effectively left. When his visa is sorted I’d like to see loaned and play in the England for a bit before making a final decision becuase his talent is there to see when he’s on the pitch.

J – you got that? As several have already mentioned: If Salamanca stay in the 2nd div then Botelho will go to Xerex on loan, for 300,000 Euros. This is what the site suggests might happen. So it looks like Botelho is moving up a division, still on loan, still an arsenal player, assuming this xerexmania site knows what it is talking about (and assuming Xerex is up a division for next season – I don’t know). But I do know the kid is from Salvador, Bahia, which is where I am commenting from! But I am only visiting so can’t tell you anything about him. I’ll ask around though.
