Lansbury Primed To Start Youth Cup Final

Henri Lansbury spoke about reaching the “winning stage” of his career last week after returning to action during the Academy League Playoff final following his loan spell with Scunthorpe United, and the 18-year-old will get another opportunity to battle for honours when he lines up against Liverpool tomorrow night.

Steve Bould is set to recall Lansbury – who last played in the second round of the Cup at Sunderland where he scored two penalties – to help bolster his midfield ahead of the double headed duel which gets underway tomorrow night at the Emirates.

The rugged midfielder returns to the side two rounds later in the competition and his inclusion could see Bould revert to a 4-4-2 with Rhys Murphy and Gilles Sunu leading the line. That formation helped the Gunners claim the League title last week and the boss was clearly impressed with Henri’s performance.

“I thought he was fabulous in the second half. Before the break he was right wing, left wing, off the front – all over. He was a little bit undisciplined and we tried to rein that in a bit and in the second half and he started to look like the player we know he is.”

Having somebody who has played 16 times and scored four goals in League One earlier in the campaign will certainly be a massive boost in what promises to be a tight couple of games.

Remember to check back tomorrow for a full preview and later a report from all the action from the first leg. In the meantime, check out Arsenal TV Online to watch the kids training ahead of the fixture.

    Henri Lansbury is fucking awesome

Looking forward to cheering on the youth at the Emirates tomorrow, the stadium might not be packed but let’s really try and raise the roof anyway. Should be a great night.

Jay – if you reckon Henri is a starter and Murphy/Sunu up front that is likely to be: Henri – Coquelin – Frimpong – JET in midfield and no place for Jack!!! Surely not?!?!

Mind you, what an awesome line up that is becoming. Swap Jack in for Sunu and its looking like the long-term future.

He said Liverpool front four are very dangerous and have alot of pace. Whats intresting is that man city finished 23 points ahead of liverpool and got battere by citys youth as well.

J Sanderson you will find that Szczesny can’t play in the FA Youth cup final, he is too old, the FA Youth cup has different rules from the Academy league, in it goalies can be a year older than the outfield players

hmmm…i hope liverpool give their best, at their best they can beat anyone. should be good, but ill be missing it i think. theres is no way man city finished 23 points ahead of us, we didnt play enough games to drop that many.

either way, youll see alot of these players in future arse/pool squads

No doubt that Henri and Jack might be the future of ours wings but when you look at our squad I dont really know where can he play. nasri 21, theo 20, vela 19, barazite 19, gibbs 19, traore 20 and of course rosicky, arshavin, eboue or diaby. I’m praying they will stay but if they’re going to ‘make it’ it could be because we sell or (un)fortunately someone gets injury (no doubt I think…)

Nacer Barazite,Armand Traore, will be sold, Thomas Rosicky is always injured, Samir Nasri will take Francesc Fabregas’s place in the middle when he jumps ship to Barcelona next season or the one after that. Kieran Gibbs is a left back, Emmanuel Eboue is a right back, Abu Diaby is a central midfielder and Carlos Vela and Theo Walcott are strikers, so that leaves pleanty of room for Jack Wilshere to play on the right or the left wing for the time being IMO.

Neither Barazite nor Traore will be sold. Wenger confirmed Armand is returning, and Nacer is far too gifted not to be given a chance.

Coquelin giving away niggling fouls a couple already this is after one good chance for each team; wilshere picking up a ball from Sulu sending him free and through but he was caught up and tackled. Liverpool had a good chance when thier left midfielder was free on the left side of the box.

Arsenal defensively poor at set pieces ; a cheap free kick given away by Lansbury; is floated into the box by Liverpool and O’Shea flaps at it and luckily a free kick is given by a poor handball decision against Liverpool.

Arsenal have a good break; starting from Sulu, getting the ball, turning and running. The ball gets to JET and a beautiful outside of the foot ball gets to wilshere on the right who also plays a through ball to Lansbury. However great recovery from the left back who tackles Lansbury just before he shoots.

Frimpongs goes off with an injury, Watts comes on so Wilshere comes into midfield with Coquelin.

A beautiful ball by wilshere get Cruise free who crosses across the ground; however deflected to JET and can’t get his shot away.

Wilshere picks up the ball on the left cuts in; passes to Lansbury who quickly put Sulu through who slots to the right of the Keeper

    Arsenal 1-0 Liverpool; Sulu 19:34

23 Great flick by Sulu to Jet who return the ball to Sulu; who is through but is brought down by the Liverpool CB Ayala ; who get a yellow card but could have been a red card.

24 Resulting free-kick taken by JET; blocked by the wall who moved forward whilst it was taken, poor clearance by Liverpool; means Lansbury had a chance that was stopped for offside for Cruise.
