Loanees – Simpson & Traoré End Loans + Nordtveit

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal currently have two Reserve team players gaining experience elsewhere, while a further two signed off from their loan spells this weekend. Read on to find out how they got on.

Reports:

Armand Traoré – Portsmouth 0-1 Wigan – (90 Minutes)
Håvard Nordtveit – Lillestrom 2-1 Sandefjord – (90 Minutes)
Pedro Botelho – UD Salamanca 0-1 Real Sociedad – (90 Minutes)

Jay Simpson –  West Brom 0-0 Blackburn – (Unused)

Armand Traore – Portsmouth 0-1 Wigan Athletic

Armand Traoré completed his loan spell with Portsmouth by playing the full 90 minutes of their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Wigan Athletic.

Armand was recalled to the side on Monday for the visit of Sunderland, and after bagging his first professional goal from the bench, Paul Hart named him on the left side of midfield in a 4-4-2.

With both teams safe from relegation and with nothing else to play for, it was a typical end of season affair. Yet things exploded into life when Charles N’Zogbia’s cross found its way beyond Sol Campbell and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic allowing Hugo Rodallega the simple task of poking home.

Wigan were totally on top by half time and should have sealed things early in the second half. However, it finished 1-0. Traoré had a very quiet finish to his loan spell, but he helped guide Pompey to a 14th place finish. He will return to Arsenal in pre-season.

Jay Simpson – West Brom 0-0 West Brom

Jay Simpson’s loan spell with West Brom ended on a sour note as the relegated outfit left the Arsenal youngster on the bench for the whole game.

Albion will play next season in the Championship and will hope they can extend the loan of Simpson to help them regain promotion, but after his electric start to life at the Hawthorns, Jay has found himself frozen out.

On the field, West Brom drew 0-0 in a fiery clash with Blackburn which saw Jason Roberts red carded for violent conduct. It is expected that Simpson will return to North London ahead of the new season.

Håvard Nordtveit – Lillestrøm 2-1 Sandefjord

Håvard Nordtveit played the full 90 minutes as Lillestrom claimed an important three points with a 2-1 win over Sandefjord. Nordtveit again started at centre back before switching to right back in the second half.

An Arild Sundgot double was just what the doctor ordered for Henning Berg’s men, despite Erik Mjelde pulling one back shortly before half time. It finished 2-1.

Pedro Botelho – Salamanca 0-1 Real Sociedad

Pedro Botelho racked up another 90 minutes at left back as Real Sociedad edged out UD Salamanca thanks to a Agirretxe strike in the 35th minute. It means the Union’s slim hopes of reaching the play offs are all but dashed now.

Botelho put in a mixed performance with some nice attacking touches but once more showed the poor defensive play that has marred his spell with Arsenal’s link side. To make things worse, his fellow full back Raul Ganan was sent off in the 90th minute.

When will Pedro actually join the team? I heard he might have to be on loan for another year until he’s allowed a permit.

As much as I’d wish Simpson’d come good- if he can’t even make it into the team for the last game of the season at West Brom, it’s a pretty definite article to prove he’s not gonna better Arshavin or Walcott (etc.).

If we could get 3m + 50% sell on fee ala Pennant and Bentley, good luck to the kid.

come on, your going down to the championship, are you going to use a loanee or see what you are going to have to work with. I for one hope to see him back and challenging for a first team place after all its Ade and Bendtner that are his challengers not Walcott and Arshavin.

    S. Pooley, perhaps he wasn’t selected because he will not be available for the team next season, so why not play the ones who will still be there?

Simpson have been frozen out because he decleared that he diden’t like it so good at WB, that it wasen’t as he expected and that he definitivly wont return next season.

I rate Simpson and I want him to be given a chance with us. Same with Barazite. He was soooo highly rated and all of a sudden he’s not good enough?????????????????? He’s basically the new Pires/Rosicky.

Jamie what’s Your opinion on Sendi? Personaly I think if is he going back we don’t need anymore new center back of course if any other is going to quit. I rate him highly when he replaced Kolo after ANCup but he must play regulary & after playing alongside Maldini… he cant be so bad!

I personally think that Jay Simpson will only ever be squad fodder here at Arsenal, and as for Nacer Barazite he needs to prove his himself out on like Henri Lansbury has done before he is given a chance in the Arsenal first team, because he was average at best with Derby County this season and that is being kind to him IMO.

I am wondering if Song will be played as a CB next season as he was selected ahead of Djourou for the last two games.

we badly need to sign a centre-back n a defensive midfielder, dont forget the African Cup of Nations is next year! that means losing toure, eboue, song and adebayor if hes still at arsenal, those are 4 massive and experienced players we need to have cover for, fingers crossed arsene makes a couple of signings.
