Salamanca Eye Up Loan For Trialist Martínez

Arsenal’s Spanish link club UD Salamanca are keeping tabs on Argentine trialist Damián Martínez as the 16-year-old flies in ahead of his seven day trial which is due to commence on Monday.

The Argentina Under 17 number one is regarded by his country’s coaching staff as one of the most promising young stoppers in recent years, and subsequently the national team’s goalkeeping coach Miguel Angel Santoro will join Damián in North London to watch over the prospect.

Steve Rowley’s trusted Brazil based scout Sandro Orlandelli is believed to have spotted the agile ‘keeper in action, and the Gunners have moved quickly to take a closer look. Indeed, they are so impressed with what they’ve seen so far, a $2 million (£1.3 million) incentive based contract has already been thrashed out should both parties decide to secure a permanent deal.

However, the proposed transfer is not as straight forward as it seems. Sources in Spain are already suggesting that Salamanca are set to loan Martínez for two seasons and develop him in their rising Academy. It would be a perfect option for both sides, as Liam Brady will have the likes of Sean McDermott, Charlie Mann and Luke Chambers all pushing to be the Under 18’s number one next term. It would mean that Damián could return as a first team player.

It would also get around any potential work permit problems caused by a non-E.U player trying to gain entery to the UK, although a special talent visa could be applied for. The next seven days will decide the future.

Well, nice to hear we are still tracking some decent young players. But surely we have enough youngsters to last a good few seasons now.
    FUTURE PLAYERS
    Keepers:
Mcdermott, Mann, Chambers, Shea, Manonne, Szczesny, Fabianski

    Defenders:
Bartley, Miquel, Ayling, Gibbs, Nordtveit, Ogogo, Steer, Cruise, Hoyte, Gilbert, Eastmond

    Midfielders:
Bischoff, Barazite, Randall, Coquelin, Emmanuel-Thomas, Ramsey, Merida, Wilshere, Frimpong, Lansbury

    Strikers:
Simpson, Bendtner, Murphy, Vela, Sunu, Fonte

Surely that will do for a couple of seasons now!!

barazite cant get in derbys team hes so overrated by arsenal fans imo.
traore is a good player, hasnt played as often as hoped for pompey but hes pretty decent. However gibbs and clichy are far better LBs and i dont think traore is the right sortta player for arsenal as a winger.

Sean: Only about 10 of those players will have a chance at Arsenal. Only 5 of them have a genuine lock on their future here (Wilshere, Bendtner, Ramsey, Gibbs, Vela.) We should never stop looking at exciting youngsters, you never know when we might discover the next Cesc. If this kid ends up Argentina #1 in 10 years time then it doesn’t matter what happens with our other young keepers, we’ll have Argentina’s #1!

John: Wingers? Arshavin, Nasri, Theo, Rosicky (who hit full training finally this week), possibly Traore and Vela not enough for you?

I’d like Barazite, Traore and Simpson to come back and be able to make an impact but I don’t think anyone expecting any real difference from them in the first XI next season. If they don’t turn out to be good enough then fair enough, but they will be given a chance in training and in the Carling Cup and would at least make us a few quid.

You young gunners might want to read this: http://www.onlinegooner.com/exclusive/index.php?id=1154

If you haven’t already. It’s an excellent run-down on what the club will being doing differently with Gazidis on board, and gives a good indication of what things will be like when these young gunners are playing in the first team. I am posting it here because I really appreciate this site and the insights the blogger and commentators have. But I also wonder at times about the occasionally impatient tone and lack of perspective of a few other commentators. These two links will give a lot of perspective on the club that you (many of you?) younger readers will be inheriting.

By the way, I don’t have any connection to the arsenal trust or online gooner. But I may join them now that I see how committed and level-headed they are.

J – speaking of loans, how are some of our loanees doing? nordveit has just disappeared off the radar and I have no idea how hes been getting on, the same with lansbury. I thought lansbury was due back by now, but he doesn’t seem to have returned.

Samuel Arshavin is a second striker, nasri is a cm, rosicky plays of strikers, theo is a striker thats his natural position. We dont seem to have and out and out winger like pires, ljunberg, overmars. Like in the premiership u c very few players dribble or run with the ball. The likes of waddle, macmanam, overmars, kanchelski, giggs, barnes. Arsenal need those kind of players. Like hleb was perfect at that running at defenders slipping balls through.

john nasri is not a central midfielder thats total rubbish, just because he gets played there doesn’t mean he is. thats like saying diaby is a winger then. theo has been converted to a winger, hence his tremendous success there this campaign. arshavin too has done brilliantly every game on the wing, and has not scored one goal playing as a second striker. if anything, nasri, arshavin and walcott all bear resemblances to pires and ljungberg with their intelligent play and goal threats from the wings. please don’t come out with such rubbish again.
