Arsenal Fan Blackwood Quits Gunners For Spurs

News has reached Young Guns that Defender Anton Blackwood has made the move across London North to sign for arch rivals Tottenham on a one-year deal.

The former Northampton Town starlet actually rejected a move to Spurs to sign for the Gunners in 2007 after a trial, but two unsuccessful and injury hit campaigns have severely hampered his time with the club. Anton arrived with massive potential having had a series of outstanding seasons with The Cobblers – and his sprinting roots which saw him run a 100m in just 11.1 seconds when he was 14.

A handful of appearances for Steve Bould’s Under 18’s this term was the only notable highlight before Blackwood was sent on trial to Fulham two months before the end of the season. Liam Brady then made it clear he would not be offering him an improved contract due to his poor performances and injury problems meaning the lifelong Gooner was forced to look for new employment.

Anton recently travelled with the Tottenham side to Switzerland where they won the Tournoi International trophy. He infact scored in the final – a 3-0 victory over Hajduk Split. That sealed the deal and on Monday afternoon Spurs snapped up the quicksilver centre back on a one year incentive based deal – similar to that which Arsenal signed Amaury Bischoff to.

Young Guns would like to thank Anton for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best in the future.

Not too happy about a “lifelong gooner” going to play for Spurs, but then I shouldn’t think too much spurs fans are happy about a gooner playing for them either… Score plenty of own goals, Anton.

He is an Arsenal fan? No Arsenal fan in their own right would go to Spurs. Also, J, mate, you are way to polite. You should say; Young Guns would like to tell this cunt he is making a mistake, is not a real Arsenal fan, and he was never good enough to make it at Arsenal… Tough Anton!

Why did he leave? is it because of Angha? WHo else do we have at the U-18 stage that can play RB, other than Eastmond who is not good enough?

Come on haha…get a grip on reality. A move to Spurs means he’ll get more of a chance at grasping the brass ring in his CAREER. This is his job…it has nothing to do with being an Arsenal fan and Anton has to choose the best club for himself, paying the best wage available, regardless of affiliation. Back in the day, if Spurs had come calling and offered me the chance of a football career at the top level with thousands of pounds in wages? I’d have bitten their hand off. Then scored a bag load of og’s when playing the Arsenal.

Let’s not be too vitriolic about this. It’s hardly the same as someone like Sagna leaving for Tottenham, for example. He is trying to make a viable career for himself, and if his best chance of doing that is elsewhere, even at our closest rivals, then I wish him the best of luck.

It’s just a confirmation of what we know: Spurs get our rejects, we get their stars.

    Bentley > Spurs
    Ricketts > Spurs
    Blackwood > Spurs

    Campbell > Arsenal

Well said StuDawg. We’re talking about a 17 year old kid who will not get his contract renewed at Arsenal, but now got an offer to join another of the best academy sides out there. That just happens to be Tottenham.

There’s even several Arsenal fans playing for the Tottenham first team – Bent, Defoe etc.

You can put Jamie O’Hara into that list as well, Erichero.

Good luck and best wishes to Anton.

According to all the news on here Blackwood was never offered a pro deal, he was allowed to leave on trial to Fulham (as this article mentions) a few months ago. And then allowed to have a trial with Spurs. It was pretty obvious that Arsenal didn’t object to him leaving; so I don’t think any hard feelings can be had towards him joining Spurs.

i agree with both sides really, I can understand why some people aren’t happy, but I doubt he is particularly pleased either. He has spent a couple of years trying to get a chance at the club of his dreams and it hasn’t worked out for him. He must be gutted, but if another big club comes in for him then it’s only right that he gives it a try.

PS. Are we keeping Bischoff next season or not?

This isn’t even reported on Arsenal.com. Are they embarrassed or something? By the way I think your site is absolutely tremendous.
