Arsenal Release Rodgers, Ogogo & Rasmussen

Arsenal have released out of contract defenders Abu Ogogo and Paul Rodgers while they’ve also agreed to terminate Jonas Rasmussen’s professional forms.

Ogogo and Rodgers were destined to leave the club this summer but both have secured moves to pastures new. Abu has signed a two-year deal with League Two outfit Dagenham & Redbridge after impressing for Barnet towards the back end of last season. Paul, who started Arsenal’s Carling Cup Quarter-Final with Burnley, has returned to Northampton for an extended trial which should result in a contract offer.

Yet the surprise of the trio is highly rated Danish winger Rasmussen. He’s currently with his family in Hvidovre considering his options. Arsenal may not be interested in keeping the prospect yet according to Jonas himself there is no shortage of suitors.

“Right now I’m just waiting for some clarification. I have been in Viborg for two trials and then on a tour in Switzerland with Young Boys, and received an offer from another Swiss club. My first priority is, however, to return to Denmark. Right now I await the situation in Viborg and keep options open in Switzerland.”

Rasmussen is expected to sign with Viasat Divisionen outfit Viborg F.F in the coming days after being paid up to the end of his contract which had two seasons left to run. Viborg – who are currently 4th in the Danish 2nd division – have been long term admirers for several campaigns and are the side which Jonas has put as his first choice.

Young Guns would like to wish all three players the very best of luck in the future.

He’s a very good player, but we’ve not really seen it since he’s been here. So this move is probably best all round

Rasmussen can’t be that good if the only teams in for him are a Danish 2nd division side and some Swiss teams….

Are James Dunne and Renee Steer out of here as well? And are there any other departures?

Shame about Rasmussen, sounded a talented type

@haho, it’s suspected that both of those lads will be on their way as well as Bischoff, as far as I’m aware, most contracts run out on July 1st.

J, what’s the situation with Kerrea Gilbert? When does his contract expire? He looked so promising during 2005-06, but 3 seasons of loans don’t seem to have suggested an Arsenal future. I’m wondering if he’ll get a chance in the pre-season games.

According to Arsenal Rasmussen is very much still an Arsenal player. He was not one of eight players to leave the club.

According to Arsenal.com, James Dunne Rene Steer & Anton Blackwood have all been released too. As “gooner” says above, they don’t mention Jonas Rasmussen as a departee.
