Jernade Meade Become Scholar Number Eight

As regular readers will know, Young Guns confirmed the seven new scholars for next season after they took part in the traditional photo shoot at the Emirates. We also hinted that there may be more announced, and we can now confirm that Jernade Meade has become scholar number eight.

The London-born diminutive winger was one of the more eye catching prospects who was given the opportunity to complete the season playing for Steve Bould in his all conquering Under 18’s. Meade can play comfortably on the left or the right and while he may be small – he’s blessed with superb agility and pace.

Jernade could follow the route that Roarie Deacon took in being operated on the flanks whilst with the Under 16’s before taking up a striker role after penning his scholarship. He’s been a regular for Steve Gatting for the past two campaigns and has found goals in abundance. Meade was part of the very successful squad that claimed both the Atalanta Cup and Zinedine Zidane Tournament trophies last summer.

Many will be delighted as he’s a real touch-line hugging winger who can cross well. Next term the 16-year-old should play a big part but it’s clear that he’s got a lot to learn – notably in bulking up and his decision making ahead of a year in the very competitive Academy League.

You’ll be able to read more about all the new scholars along with updates on all the other players in our Player Profiles which will freshened up in the coming weeks.

From the clips i have seen on arsenal tv meade a very good dribbler, buts plays better centrally hes very competitive, little tough winger/central midfielder. I dont think hes an out and out winger. I still believe arsenal lack wingers on the left hand side and the right. Whats happeing with roarie deacon? Will he get released? He didnt feature in the fa youth cup

How does he compare to Messi?

Kidding – poking fun at the typical comment on here. I love the site, though.

    Cheers.

JS – I only got to see a small part of the England Youth v France U-18 international earlier this week but, apart from Gilles Sunu, I didn’t recognize many Arsenal players on show. Do you know if we had any others playing in that game? If not, I wonder why not. Our kids are supposed to be really good, so i would expect a number of them to represent England.

I think meade better in central midfield. I dont think hes a winger. The clips i was watching. He was driving from central midfiel alongsiode chuks aneke. Chukes aneke a giant but hes very slow. Man we have too many CM coming through. No wonder ppl like samir carruthers left.

aj- that England team is made up of schoolboys, in other words players that are not considered good enough by their club/country, and will most probably not play in any of the England youth teams.

plus, we had both Sunu and Coquelin playing.

JS. Do you have any explanation why France emphasize the U-18 so much? As there is no international competition for that age group. Is it thought of as a preparatory squad for next years’ U-19?

    J. Question. You mention Roarie Deacon… Is he on a scholarship already? Because I would have thought bigger names like Ozyakyp, Afobe and Aneke would be there before him….

(When will we have a Jernade Meade player profile?)

    Cheers.

Can someone please tell me if Gilles Sunu is staying or leaving, because I am sure I read on here that he is going to Lyon in the summer, but people are talking as if he is staying.

Yes Deacon’s already a scholar. But that’s because he’s a year older than Ozyakup, Afobe and Aneke. The other three are not eligible to sign a scholarship where he was.

    Sunu is staying now.

It’s not a problem that people think Meade should play CM. It’s good to have wingers who can create as well and comfortable at attacking both inside and out. I haven’t seen him play but sounds like a good prospect.
