Negotiations, But No Castaignos Deal Until July

Arsenal have been in negotiations with Feyenoord for the transfer of striker Luc Castaignos, but any talk of an offer has been put back until July according to the players agent, Arie Treffers.

Treffers also moved to confirm that Liverpool have not been in contact regarding his client but there is interest from other sides. However, Arsenal have been leading the chase for many months, yet signings for the first team have taken priority for the time being.

“We have been talking with Arsenal for three or four months. At this moment the the two clubs are talking. Arsenal have expressed a lot of interest, Feyenoord are also interested in the deal, but it is important he develops in Holland.”

“We are now awaiting the action from Arsenal. They said last week that they will go to Feyenoord in the start of July as at this moment the most important thing for the club is to make the choices for the first team.”

The Gunners are determined to sign a youth striker for the coming campaign – as Young Guns revealed earlier in the week. Wellington and Jimmy Kamghain have both been linked, but a online betting man would say Castaignos is the favourite of the three. Known for his agility, speed and awesome finishing, Luc is expected to feature in the Feyenoord first team next season.

Arsène Wenger may have handed Ivan Gazidis the role of completing transfers, yet the Frenchman is still a massive lure for potential players. The 16-year-old is also an admirer of Wenger’s methods – which includes loaning – something Treffers believes is important for him to develop correctly.

“The manager at Arsenal is the most important person in our vision and we hope Arsenal will make this sort of deal”

Castaignos has very quickly become one of the most talked about starlets in Europe. A regular in the Holland Under 17’s soccer line up, he finished joint top scorer in the recent Under 17 European Championships as the Dutch – led by Arsenal’s Oğuzhan Ozyakup – reached the final. He then joined Jack Wilshere in being named in UEFA’s “Ten future stars”.

The future is very bright for Castaignos – let’s hope it’s with Arsenal.

Saw some of the quotes from his agent and he sounded like he was trying to invite interest from other clubs. What worries me is that Arsenal like to loan players out on their own terms and the demand for him to continue with Feyernoord for the extra year on loan might not work for Arsenal.

deano: there are 2 wellingtons. the one we are after is plays like 15 year old romario. and you never know, with unreasonably high expections like comparing him to romario, how could he not have a great career?

He is the same age as Wilshere. So if he is really that good he could get some chances in the first team next season. CC regular and often on the bench in the EPL, as well as playing the final two group stage games of the CL if we qualify early.

The Arseblogger talks like Wellington is a done deal and he will join up with the team this summer. On the Arseblog forum they have many insiders in the club, including one who works on the training ground. I know he said after the Wellington trial that they didn’t talk about anything else at London Colney that week. People couldn’t believe his talent and he was the greatest talent they had ever seen in this age group.

So, considering, I’m guessing that either we have decided to buy him or he (or his club) don’t want to leave. I don’t think he can join up with us now though, just like the da Silva twins couldn’t.

Here’s some footage… I like this player a lot but I recommend Arsenal to buy and loan him back.

Feyenoord are in a bad financial situation and they have to rely on their youth players like they already do with Wijnaldum and Fer. There’s some tough competition (Makaay, Tomasson, Biseswar) in the first team though so he might need longer than one season to get in the first team

Mouhsin: May be scuppered by van Basten leaving Ajax. We were starting to build a proper relationship with them, especially through the hiring of Bergkamp. There was even talk as points of – if he was successful – MVB’s reign at Ajax (w/ Bergkamp eventually being his no. 2) being a dry run to take over when Wenger retires. Alas, it all cocked up. It made perfect sense, especially in the wake of Cryuff’s ghastly month as Ajax’s chairman – Bergkamp and Wenger were able to show them a new way for their famed youth development to carry on into the future as Cryuff’s ideas were old and outdated (and why Ajax are currently slipping behind.)

I guess Vermaelan will be a test of how strong the relationship is between the clubs and our impact on Dutch football as a whole. And if we are not able to have the close link to Ajax we once hoped would spring up, then maybe setting up our own academy in such a naturally gifted footballing country would be a good idea.

(btw, i don’t usually read it but saw a copy of this month’s FourFourTwo magazine with Cryuff on the cover – a must read if you want to understand Ajax, new Barca and the legend himself.)

    S. Pooley = I heard it’s going to be http://www.arsenalsoccerschool.co.uk/ these kind of schools. About a partnership with Ajax’ as a Dutch native I can recommend other teams. This year Sparta Rotterdam was chosen the club with the best youth acadamy and last year it was PSV. AZ and Feyenoord have some great youth coming through as well. I try to tell people on other blogs as well. Ajax’ is not as it used to be, the youth is no as good as it was and the organisation is very badly run. There’s no clear vision. About Vermaelen I think he’s not good enough for us. Personally I prefer Bassong because he’s more the type, height we need IMO. He has a hear EPL experience which I think is very important as well.

About Cruyff and Barca and 4-3-3 I know all about it and I really think we need to play 4-3-3 as well. A lot of our players don’t play in their natural position, and I think in 4-3-3 they will.

    Almunia
    Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy
    Song
    Cesc Nasri
    RVP Adebayor Arshavin

the front three can all change position and Walcott, Dudu, Vela and Bendtner can all play in all three postions as well.

as for midfield Cesc (our Xavi) and Nasri (our Iniesta) can roam free with a lot of space in front of them and Song (our Yaya) in their back to protect them.

It also creates more space for the fullbacks as they have more space in front of them.

Moushin love the idea. Replace ade with a new striker and song by a new dm and that is a perfect team. Also get Bassong and Vermalen to replace senderos and silvestre.

Mouhsin: Thanks for the insight into Dutch football. It’s certainly something I’d like to pay more attention to, especially now the stranglehold of Ajax-PSV-Feyenoord seems to be on the wane and seems like proper competition is opening up.

Also, I think the Barca-esque 4-3-3 is what we might end up with. The end of the season was very revealing in terms of moving Nasri to an Iniesta role, to see if he could deal with an extra defensive side added to his game. Cesc certainly has it down. I also think Denilson is better suited than Song or Diaby due to his superior positioning, although both offer something essential against specific opponents when we need tactical changes. The only problem the formation casts is what happens with the next generation. Ramsey, Lansbury and Wilshere seem more like Gerrard, Lampard and Joe Cole than Iniesta, Xavi and [used to be Deco, now it’s Hleb I guess, supposedly that wonderkid Assulin will be promoted next season].

Inferno – Kyle Young is about 12/13/14 and is a cheeky little thing. Ha. Very tricky and talented. A bit like his older brother if you want comparisons to playing style but will be raised and schooled by the Arsenal if all goes according to plan (and he keeps his head down) so all is in place for him to be a great prospect in the distant future. Still far too young to be hyped over though and has much to learn but could definitely be a better player than Ashley.

KM: Most of what I know about the lad comes from last summer. There were many stories when we were in for Iago saying that even though both were terrific prospects, Assulin won the race between them to be the next big player to make the step after Busquiet’s year. (In a couple years time we should hopefully be in such a luxury position where we can just push through the 1 truly world class player a season.) Assulin was bought up in that very specific role the club have been working at since Cryuff was in charge- almost in his honour. Like Luis Enrique and Leo Messi before him, he can play anywhere in attacking midfield, but with added playmaker and striking capabilities if needed.

I heard that arsenal are also lookin at Reuben Noble-Lazarus, the left winger from barnsley. I’ve not seen him play so i would like feed back on what type of player he is? does he have good vision and passing ability or is he jus fast skillful. becasue i prefer the players with the technical abilty because theres players have the most protential. Do you rekon he has the same potential to b as good as jack wilshere.
