This week Young Guns has been producing a ‘Top 5′ series of articles with the aim to celebrate and educate on all things to do with Arsenal’s Reserves and Youth. Having already covered the Top 5 Under 16’s to watch next season, the Top 5 best positions for Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and the Top 5 reasons why Arsenal’s Academy is better than Tottenham’s, today’s blog features the Top 5 goals of Jack Wilshere’s short yet eventful career.
5. Wilshere V Reading – Feb 08
Number five in the list of Jack Wilshere goals came on the 21st of February 2008 against Reading. The goal was noted more for its significance rather than it’s quality, but it’s a fitting way to kick things off. Wilshere applied the cool finish to Nacer Barazite’s pass following a mix-up at the back. It was only a tap in but it was the 16-year-old’s Reserves debut in front of a decent crowd. It announced to Arsenal fans that they had a new talent.
Unfortunately we cannot show footage of this goal, but it is available via Arsenal TV Online.
4. Wilshere V Sheffield United – Sept 08
Fast-forwarding a year, Wilshere started on the right wing as the youngest ever Arsenal XI demolished Sheffield United by six goals. Jack got number five with a crack of his left foot following a short corner by FranMerida – in front of 60,000 at a bouncing Emirates Stadium. It was a classy finish from the starlet who managed to mix control and accuracy with power.

3. Wilshere V VFB Stuttgart – Jul 08
Jack’s volley against Stuttgart weighs in at number three. Connecting brilliantly with Carlos Vela’s cross to lash beyond formerGunners Jens Lehmann, it wrapped up a 3-1 win. Arsene Wenger described the game as where the ‘real work’ began, and Wilshere showed he can mix it with the big boys with this silky finish .
Unfortunately we cannot show this goal due to a copyright claim made by VfB Stuttgart.
2. Wilshere V Stoke City – Jan 09
It was a close one, but Wilshere’s curler against Stoke City is second. It’s the very latest offering from the newly signed professional and it won Young Guns’ Reserve goal of the season. The game finished 2-2 but it will always beremembered for this superb drive. After the ball fell to Jack just inside the box he swung his foot at it only to see the ball neatly finish just inside the post -completely deceiving the goalkeeper.

1. Wilshere V West Ham – Apr 08
Jack Wilshere’s number one goal is against West Ham United Reserves. The strike was one of quality and meaning as it was in front of ArseneWenger at Barnet’s Underhill stadium. Having already set up Rui Fonte for the opener, Jack strode inside and curled an inch perfect drive into the top corner to double the lead. The goal came from nowhere but was just an example of his potential ability. It started the whole fan fair around the prospect and probably led toWenger calling on him for pre-season.
Unfortunately we cannot show footage of this goal, but it is available via Arsenal TV Online.

It was Clichy who made the cross against Stuttgart, not Vela.. (Not that it matters though)
Jackie Wilshere is the best
Why not just link to youtube? Stuttgart goal is there and all the others

Yea, Clichy beat several players before crossing to Wilshere against Stuttgart.
I would love to see Wilshere play on the right with Eboue at RB. With Hleb on the right, our RBs always play a lot better and if we combine Wilshere’s reserve passes with Eboue’s raw ability to cross, than we could be in for a treat.
Jack Wilshere will be integrated slowly into the team. I believe next season we would see him even more on the bench and play some matches. He would probably be like what carlos vela was last season. But I guess his appearances would still be confined to the carling cup and some FA cup.
Wilshere has a huge future in front of him. We must definitely keep him with arsenal. No way are we going to let him leave for other clubs especially the idiotic spanish clubs and italian clubs. Wilshere will most probably take over rosicky’s place in two to three seasons time, or maybe earlier. Arshavin is not getting younger, and he has only like 3 more seasons with us, and upon the completion of his contract, I think arshavin would be back to zenit, that is when wilshere will be unleashed as a 20 year old wizard, but as I said, it could be earlier.
Arsenal has great potential. Look at the under-18s that would the under-18 championship and cup. Look at how they demolish liverpool. That was a joy to watch. We definitely have some great potential players in the under-18.
However, next season is important for players like merida, wilshere, coquelin, lansbury, gibbs, ramsey, nordveit and gavin hoyte. I believe it is time for them to be the carling cup kids and start integrating them into the first team. I definitely have high hopes for these 8 kids. They will be the future of arsenal.
Arsenal all the way!!!!!
