Video – New Boy McDermott At School & Training

Norwegian born Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Sean McDermott is currently busy arranging his housing and schooling after completing his switch to Arsenal two weeks ago. Yet the reported $7 million dollars (£4.3 million) fee is wrong. The number of 7 million is correct, but the fee is in Norwegian kroner. This means that the 1 million the Gunners paid up front is infact only £100,000. The rest of the money is based on appearances and targets met meaning the fee could eventually finish at £700,000.

We’d like to apologise for this mistake, and at the same time introduce a video of Sean. It shows an interview with the 16-year-old at his former school in Kristiansand. He was there saying goodbye to his friends and teachers before having a final kick around. For those who have never seen the stopper in action – there is also footage of him training with IK Våg. he looks like a good prospect although we do seem to have more goalkeepers than we will ever need, J can you give your viewpoint on who actually has a future at arsenal and who will move on

    Hi JS,
always appreciate your work, but I hope you check the figure more carefully from now on before putting it on the blog – because this blog is so popular and contains accurate numbers in general, so many gooners take what you write as fact. You know there was some uproar and discontent among some gooners for spending so much on some teanage keeper? ;) Otherwise, keep up the good work!

McDermott is only 16 whereas Mannone is 21. So they are not a threat to each other just yet.

No idea about Salamanca, I’d expect us to buy a South American to send there rather than send one of our kids.

Goonerguy – Isn’t that a good thing? gives us a massive pool of talent to chose from. And it’s hard to say who will make and who will not. I’d say the majority of players on the top scorer list there >> will have a good shout of making it. I’m sure you can see the players I’m talking about.

John – Yeah that’s a shame for Rhys, but he was injured towards the back end of the season and the England setup like to keep a consistant group.

Nile Ranger is a big, physical Newcastle striker. Decent but no Rhys Murphy.

i think mannone is the almunia of the youth team as he doesn’t set the world alight with his abilities but does the job with reliability

Kent – there is no need for that sort of comment mate.

Goonerguy – he has had several really impressive games, so I’m not sure about that comment. He certainly divdes opinion like Almunia

JS U a big fan of Thomas Vermaelen? Surely u know ppl from Holland you got any good information on him?

Anyway is Jame Edge an arsenal player where do u expect him to mplay CM or CB? Martin Allen wanted to play him in league 1 at 15 must be a special talent like freeman

what i meant by my comment is that like almunia, mannone doesn’t really make that many world class saves or has the presence that other goalkeepers have which is why they divide fans opinions but they are still able to make a difference which is why they remain at the club

Yepp that image for the offical store is photoshoped. It’s quite embarrassing really.

As for Vermaelen, I’ve seen a bit of him – around 3-4 games. He has never really stood out as a massive talent, but he goes about his job quietly and does it well. Maybe that’s what we need, a consistant performer at the back.

One thing to note is that he doesn’t take anything from anybody has wears his heart on his sleeve. He’ll give everything for the cause and is very physical. A typical old fashioned centre back really.
