Arsenal Talking To Newcastle Over Krul + Video

Arsenal are in talks with Championship outfit Newcastle United over the sale of their highly rated Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul.

The 21-year-old Holland Under 21 International was regarded as one of the best goalkeeping prospects when he made the move from ADO Den Haag to Newcastle, but has struggled to break through. However, he has shone during loan spells with Falkirk and Carlisle and it now appears Arsène Wenger is ready to bring him back to the top flight and nurture his talents.

The 6 foot 2 inch stopper was scouted playing in the Under 17 European Championship for the Netherlands in Tuscany in May 2005, and after much speculation, Arsenal were edged to his signature by The Magpies. The 2007–2008 campaign saw Krul spend time on loan with Scottish side Falkirk where he made 22 appearances before a shoulder injury cut short his spell.

He returned to Newcastle last term but found Shay Given and Steven Harper tough prospects to overcome. Subsequently, on On the 21st of November he signed for League One Carlisle United where he made 9 appearances before returning in January as Given was sold to Manchester City.

Last month he penned a few four-year-deal with United despite their relegation from the Premier League, and celebrated the new contract by starring for the Dutch Under 21 squad that won the European Championships and also qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics. A strong, athletic and dominate ‘keeper, Tim recently admitted his desire to seek first team football.

Krul is expected to cost around £3 million pounds and would compete with Łukasz Fabiański, Vito Mannone and Wojciech Szczęsny to be Manuel Almunia’s understudy. You can see a video of his talents below.

I’m struggling to think of why we would need another GK? Where would Krul fit in? Surely it must mean that Wenger doesn’t rate Mannone, and he is being shipped out. With Fabianski recently signing a new deal, and Szczesny being an exceptional prospect. Thats the only logical solution i could think of.

Why do we need him !!?
Fabianski, Mannone and Szczęsny are young, talented and quality goalkeepers !!
I don’t think we need him, plus £3 millions are alot :P

sounds weird. I have never seen him but I wonder if he is a better prospect than Tech9. Mannone I don’t believe in and I have big doubts over Fabiansky. We already have 4 GKs in Austria and if we add the fifth it will be very crowded, some will have to move on or go out on a loan.

If his desire is to play first team football then why would he join us when as you point out he would be in competition with 3 other keepers to be a no. 2? It doesn’t really make sense

Why would Krul leave NUFC (where he is now no.2 goalkeeper) to join the Arse and become no. 4 or something. Plus he has just signed a new 4 year contract. Not a chance mate. Where did you get 3 million from haha.

This has to be a joke we have sold adebayor, toure and we want to buy another young goalkeeper.

It must mean fabianski or mannone are leaving. Krul is number 2 to Steve Harper.

Sorry mate but where are you getting this? No1 why would krul leave nufc where he’s currently no2 maybe even get the no1 spot next season to go to arsenal and fight among other keepers for a game when he clearly says he wants 1st team football. No2 theres a transfer embargo in at nufc at the moment no one in or out

he Gunners have had a £1.5m bid for 17-year-old Brazilian star Zezinho, turned down.

The attacking midfielder’s club Juventude want £3.5m but sources say they might let him go for £2.5m.

Zezinho said: “My dream is to play in Europe at a big club.”

JS Whats ur understanding on Brede Hangeland are arsenal actually after him? Have thier been any bids? Also do you think we will see Thomas Vermaelen play in midfield i heard wenger mention he will play defenders in midfield. Not being funny but everyone keeps going on about his left foot and hows hes a good passer. Maybe he could be the DM we have been looking for.

Don’t know anything new about Hangeland, but it seems to be something the press have cooked up. Don’t see what he’d bring other than height, he’s not terribly quick. Poor Toure replacement IMO.

Vermaelen has been signed to play centre back. Wenger was reffering to the fact he’s played Senderos at DM during the last two games.

Cheers Guilherme. Just the way he took that goal was class.

Yeah John, like J said, AW was talking bout having to play Senderos there in the past two games mate. Verm has a quality left peg though, as displayed with that raking pass to send Nik through, only to be brought down for the pen which RVP dispatched in the last game.

Still J, even though Hangeland lacks pace, he will help out immensely on attacking and defending set-pieces. He also has fantastic organisational skills. We really need to stop deploying such a high line though as many teams have found out this is our achilles heel as well as our inability to defend set-pieces. Still play a high line and put the opposition on the back foot but just not as high up as it has become far too easy for teams to hoof it over the top and put us in trouble.

The thing is arsenal have a new formation 4-3-3 i think wenger knows he has to sort out the defence.

FUlham fans say hangeland rarely gets himself in wrong positions and always forces the attacker to go the way he wants them to go.

This high line doesnt work teams have worked us out they can send the ball over the top or through the sides. Full backs always attacking dats why hes gone for 4-3-3 stop full backs from attacking all the time like last season

Krul conceded 6 (!) against Leyton Orient (!) the other day: DO NOT WANT.

Also, come on people, this is a reserve&youth blog, it’s not the place to find out about Hangeland. (Although personally, I rate him. Would prefer Zapata though, dude is the next fattySol.)

Zezinho would make sense considering we don’t have anyone lined up for Salamancia next season yet…

Samuel, Casillas let in 4 against Liverpool and was by far the best Madrid player on the field. Haha, 6 against Leyton Orient is something a little worse but Newcastle haven’t been known for their great defending either.

js, what do u think about the chances of one the young gunners moving up to replace Toure? I was thinking Hoyte is the only one who really has the exp to step up with his loan out to watford. (with Nordtveit out on loan) but I don’t think he is ready. I can’t see us buying anyone in really. with the transfer market how it is and every club is doubling the price of all there players, we’re just going to be priced out. wouldn’t mind to see Taylor at the club. I think he could be still be good. u can’t count pre-season so conceded 6 against Leyton Orient doesn’t matter.

Think we need another striker though. RvP and Eduardo while great and very talented, I have doubts about their fitness while I don’t think Vela is quiet ready. this is Bendter year to prove himself. make it or shut up!

This is the link to the article about Zezinho I believe. Come on guys when did we start getting we starting to get so desperate that we look to The Sun for the truth. I believe we have a huge amount of talent coming though and a new buy must be exceptional not to put out the balance. Vela, Merida, Ramsey , Wilshere, Lansbury and not the least the breakthough of Bendtner, Djorou, Gibbs, Song and Denilson that have done wonderful. The only position I am worried about is right back if Toure and Eboue goes as said by Wenger about Toure and Fiorentina from club and agent

I dont rate casillas as a goalkeeper apart from shot stopping hes awful. Hes rubbish when it comes to set pieces, corners, crosses. He wouldnt hack it in the premiership.

I also dont rate Robinho, everyomne goes on about him but i havent been impressed even with real madrid he wasnt really good. The guys lacks pace, hes a one trick pony, he cant really go past players. He always looks for a pass for his full back. he doesn track back. One of the most overrated players in world player for me

The Zezinho thing may just be a rumour like sebjob has stated. I just came across a Liverpool blog where they’re stating that they’ve beaten off competition from ourselves, Chelsea, Man Utd Barca and Real for the lad. The funny thing is, the Juventude president has quotes attributed to him where he states he knows nothing about Liverpool buying him and he only knew they were scouting him so that seems like utter bollocks too.

John – I completely agree with you regarding Robinho but Casillas is what I would describe as a world class goalkeeper mate. I would only rate Buffon on his level out of everyone out there right now.

Casillas is the best in the world, for me it’s not a question. I don’t agree that he is bad on set pieces. And for a shot stopper he is classes above the rest.

Did you guys see this? http://www.arsenal.com/news/reserves-news/former-gunner-signs-for-oldham-athletic

They said that Rene Steer made one appearance for Arsenal, against Burnley. I wonder if the author is mixing him up with Paul Rodgers. Steer was only on the bench while Paul played the first 45 minutes (he might as well not have).

Honestly i have seen Casillas so many times he flap at crosses, coners , set pieces. Hes not a physical strong goal keeper. Hes not very brave and he doest communcate with the defence. fabio capello wanted to play diego lopez instead of him. But cause of the media and madrid fans he couldnt

Video compilations are created to make players look good. I guess one good video doesn’t really prove he is that good. Furthermore, we have already have Mannone and Szczesny fighting out for the third goalkeeper place so I don’t really see this deal going through.

Thanks J, continue writing good articles! :D
