Lincoln City 2-3 Arsenal XI – Friendly – Report

Steve Bould took an Arsenal Reserves and Youth XI to Lincolnshire this evening as the Gunners faced Lincoln City for the first time in 118 years. A 4,508 strong crowd was in attendance with a firm mixture of both Gooners and Imps. However, a car accident on the A46 motorway hampered travelling supporters.

On the pitch, seven regular members of Arsenal’s League and Cup winning Under 18’s started, while there a flavour of experience in the form of Nacer Barazite and Jay Simpson. Newly signed Sean McDermott was handed a debut, whilst there was three of the 09/10 scholars on the bench.

Shea
Ayling – Boateng – Miquel – Cruise
Sunu – Coquelin – Thomas – Watt
Barazite – Simpson

Subs: – McDermott, Obed, Özyakup, Henderson, Freeman.

Match Report – Lincoln 2-3 Arsenal XI

Sparkling sunshine greeted the players as they emerged from the tunnel. The sun was just beginning to set over the Sincil Bank stands as the Gunners got the game going with some super one-touch football.

A defensive Lincoln opted to camp in their own half in the early stages but slowly began to step out. Yet whenever they did, Arsenal’s flowing football carved huge gaps in the hosts back four. Nacer Barazite had Danny Hone at full stretch to clear off the line before Rob Burch was forced into action to deny Jay Emmanuel-Thomas from long range.

After having seven shots to Lincoln’s none, finally the breakthrough. With just the dying embers of the first-half left, Gilles Sunu pounced following James Shea’s long punt to lob the advancing Burch. The Frenchman reeled away after watching the ball nestle into the back of the net. It was the final meaningful action of the first period.

Half Time – Lincoln 0-1 Arsenal XI

Arsenal began the second half well but there was clear signs that Lincoln were not going to lay down and die. Richard Butcher came close and then Paul Connor even closer. James Shea came to the rescue on both occasions.

After being frustrated in their bid to pull level, slack defending allowed Jay Emmanuel-Thomas the chance to double the advantage. But they barely had time to celebrate the goal before The Imps were back in the game following a 35 yard free-kick from Aaron Brown.

The goal revitalised Lincoln who would catch the complacent young Gunners cold and level at 2-2. Chris Fagan was on hand to turn home from close range in front of a stuttering back four. But the purple patch of goals continued and Bould’s boys showed their metal by firing themselves back into the lead. Luke Ayling thumped home Barazite’s corner to send the 1000 or so Arsenal fans wild.

It was a fitting end to an exciting evening of football.

    Thanks J.

It sounds like these kids don’t like to lose.

I am wondering why Ayling at right back? To have a look at the other two, as Ayling is clearly senior having been involved in the second half at Barnet? To get him some experience across the back four?

Ridiculous performance! Struggling to beat Lincoln City?! How will this team manage against the likes of Burnley in the Carling Cup?

Luke Ayling was playin centre back boateng was playing right back. Ayling by all accounts was really good. Cruise had a shocker and rhema obed had to replace him. I am a big fan of cruise very solid but sometimes very inconsistent. Ayling got to be a certainty for the austria trip

I would of thought so to John, but my understanding is players involved tonight have missed out. I may be wrong but I thought the Austria party travelled tonight. If thats the case Simpson, Barazite, Jet and Ayling must be gutted. I’d look more into Simpson missing out than more than the others though – curtains for him I reckon.

Barazite’s exclusion would suggest a loan move imo.

Vi – I assume you are joking? This is their first pre-season match as a team and do you have any idea just how young some of our players are? I think they did very well from the sounds of things. I’m sure those experienced Lincoln City players are not too thrilled at being beaten at home by a bunch of kids.

How many do they take to Austria? Can’t believe he would have left out Coquelin, Barazite and Simpson. There’s no way Eastmond deserves to be on that plane if Ayling isn’t. He’s an alrite player but will never make the grade with us. Is Benik in Austria, I wonder? He would have been a shoo in to play in this game.

Frimpong made the squad so I’m pleased for the lad. Interesting that its him and not Coquelin that got the nod in that department.

Fagan’s goal was on the edge of the area, so not really close range. It was a really good finish.

Your kids looked good. They kept the ball well and were the better side for the first 60 minutes or so, but faded a little. The left back found it hard against Jamie Clarke who was playing on the right for us, who had an excellent game and was our man of the match. WHen the other left back came on he still found it hard against him.

Kep I’m not sure of the numbers but remember there is a pre-season for the reserves and youth teams too. To go to Austria Wenger has to believe it would be beneficial. Many of these players have already had the opportunity to train with the first team over the last week, traveling with the squad and not get a game or not feel part of the first team squad during training drills would be pointless.

As a lincoln fan, i was impressed by some of the quality of your arsenal side but i feel that the Lincoln players showed there was a reason why the Arsenal players are playing for them and likely to play in the Premier League and our players are in League 2. Suprised we scored 2 goals because we have real problems with scoring at the moment and have no real strikers other than Fagan. In all a very entertaining game and gave your players something to fight for at the end because they treated our game as a training match in the first half when our team just played defensively. Well done and would wish to play your team again :)

Ayling, right back? I like. Get rid of Eboue (if he isn’t gone this year, since he IS back up/deputy with Sanga) the end of next term. If all goes well one of these young’uns will jump up and take a spot with Gibbs on the first team on the wings.

To the person who stated that this team won’t cope in the Carling Cup – they WON’T be playing in the Carling Cup. Wenger always plays a mixture of the second best 11 from the First Team and the best from the Reserves. My opinion this season would be:

Fabianski, Hoyte, Nordtveit/Ayling, Djourou, Gibbs, Wilshire, Randall/Ramsey, Thomas, Merida, Barazite/Simpson, Vela.

It’s important we don’t field a total Reserve side as to be fair they would be easily beaten by most EPL/Championship teams.

Good day J, this report to me is one top notch considering timing and events. The lads did well only that I am NOT comfortable with excess rotation at KEY areas of the pitch. Though a good learning curve but most times in crucial games, it affects us BIG TIME. J, any don’t you think we need some South American flair in the team? Not minding JW, but we also need lads that can pull off MAGIC even in critical times. Any latest transfer news? Blaise? Chamakh? Nice work J. We RESPECT you here in NIGERIA. God BLESS you.

“…he hath reserved under darkness in everlasting chains, unto the judgement of the great day.

As Sodom and Gomorrha and the neighboring cities, in like manner, having given themselves to FORNICATION and going after OTHER FLESH, were made an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.” Jude, paragraphs 6 and 7.
“But before they went to bed, the men of the CITY beset the house both YOUNG AND OLD, ALL the PEOPLE together.
And they called Lot, and said to him: where are the men that came in to thee at night? Bring them out hither that we may know them.” (This is from Genesis 19, paragraphs 4 and 5 regarding the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha)

There are several references in the Old and New Testaments about the evils of the ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrha. The two referenced above clearly demonstrate that in those cities evils spoken of were not just homosexuality but immoral sexual lusts of several natures. St. Jude mentions fornication (as the type of heterosexual copulation between a man and a woman which is against God’s Law) and going after other flesh. Other flesh is homosexuality, likely pedophilia, and possibly beastiality. In Genesis it is mentioned that Lot’s house was beset by the men of the city, both YOUNG and OLD, ALL the people together. God destroyed the entire city because all of the people were guilty of horrible sexual sin and all of the people included men, women, and children.
Therefore, it is very obvious that where one sin begins, a similar sin of like nature often follows. For example, in a marital conflict, if a man becomes constantly very angry at his wife, this anger can lead to violence and repeated violence can lead to serious violence and serious violence to possibly murder. Immoral sin of the flesh is no different. As humans, we are never completely sexually satisfied and when we over-ride our moral consciouces, we may experiment with immoral sexual practices. Since we are never sexually satisfied, once the “new thrill” wears off, we may again go more beyond our moral consciouces and try even more deviant sex (pedophilia, sadomasachism, beastiality, etc.) This is a twisted psychological state. And unless you are willfully blinded, it is clear in Luke and Genesis that in Sodom and Gomorrha; the people of those cities, at a minimum, were committing acts of fornication, homosexuality, and pedophilia.
In summary, at this time, the world is teaching us and our innocent children that homosexuality should be considered normal, acceptable, and commedable. Soon, unless we all speak up, there will be laws that carry severe punishment for anyone who mentions that acts like homosexuality are morally wrong. Unless we speak up NOW, pedophilia will be deemed, by law, an acceptable lifestyle. We all need to protect our children and if we do not speak up, we will be guilty and responsible for what happens to us as a society and for what happens to our children
