Nordtveit In Germany Ahead Of Nürnberg Move

Håvard Nordtveit travelled to Germany this morning after Arsenal informed his current loan club, Lillestrøm, that they will not be extending his loan beyond August 1st.

Having firmly resurrected his reputation as one of the most promising defenders in Europe after returning to his home-land in March, Arsenal have now decided to give the 19-year-old a fresh challenge. German Bundesliga outfit Nürnberg have made an offer to take Håvard on loan until the end of the season, and the player himself has now left Norway to check out their facilities before returning to training tomorrow.

Lillestrøm’s Sporting Director confirmed that Nordtveit has travelled to Germany but admits the defenders future is still up in the air even if he rebuffs Nürnberg.

“Will Nordtveit stay with Lillestrøm if he says no to the Germans? – it is impossible to say. Everything is up to Arsenal. We said we want him to continue with us, and we can only hope for the best”

The Gunners have been making regular checks on Nordtveit who has established himself as first-choice in a frustrating season for LSK. The physical nature of Tippeligaen football has worried Arsenal officials after their prospect had his nose broken on his debut, and recently lost a tooth following an elbow in the mouth.

Nürnberg will be playing Bundesliga football next season after winning their Bundesliga II play-off. They will be battling against a return to the 2nd Division next term but they do boast a handful of internationals among their ranks. The coming weeks promise to be very interesting for Håvard.

Is it because a defender needs longer to mature that we are loaning him all the time? I was hoping we may see him in the Carling cup squad this season.

I got a bit worried there with the title thinking it may be permanent! Will be a good move since the standard of football will be better, but it will definately be harder for him to make the first XI.

Man this would be a brilliant move for Havard he needs to play in a good league like bundesliga. See well he does there its probably less physical but the league is full of giants. German teams have alot of tall target men

J: I understand you aren’t in the postion to keep an eye on blog comments 24/7 but racism in any form is horrible abuse and when you have an opportunity, please, on behalf of young guns admirers, please take aproppriate action.

Glad to see Howie move up a league. All this experience is essential and although I haven’t seen enough of the lad to form an opinion on his ability, it can’t hurt to have him go through the rigour like this.

it’s not excatly racism. She isn’t saying anything bad about black people or any other ethnic minority. Unless “coon” is anything racist. I can understand what point of view she is coming from. The more african players there are, the harder we will suffer when it is the African Nations Cup.

besides the fact coon is only used as a racist word in english (exactly the same as nigger), she equates them being black to them being african. she’s obviously not too smart, considering the number of black people who are straight out english lol….

if ever there was a blatantly racist comment, that was it. please delete and or ban her if you can j, it looks terrible on you if you let it slide.

I live in Germany at the momment and I wish all of our youngsters would be loaned out to Germany. I think Germany is the perfect league for our youngsters to progress. Just look at all the players that have developed in young ages in Germany Hleb, Rosicky, Berbatov, Santa Cruz (even though he was total shit), Samba…. Teams like Hoffenheim, Nürnberg, Mönchengladbach, Cologne would be great. Freiburg would be perfect cause they play similar to our style like Hoffenheim. Nürnberg are looking for a young defender i reckon i would be the perfect move for him.

Don´t know if this is a good move. Playing fulltime in Norway is a good start. Being a sub in Germany is not. He is not good enough to play in the Bundesliga yet. He will be, but you have to give the guy some time. Don´t wreck his career like we did with Senderos!

The boy is 19 and you sag he isnt good enough for the bundesliga now then he´ll never be arsenal standard. Bayern Munich have sold lucio and are gonna play a 19 year old. Dortmunds cb´s are 19 and 20. So if Nordveidt isnt good enough now then we might as well get rid of him. He would get his games at Nurnberg he would be their 3rd cb. 2nd RB, 2 or 3rd dm. There cbs always get injured

I see your point, James/Frankfurt. But in my view Nordtveit was playing really well for Lillestrøm FK, and I think it would do him good to continue his spell. Instead he now has to adopt to another country (his fourth), language, new teammates and another way of playing. If he could manage that, nothing would make me happier. A minor problem could also be that Nordtveit is a far better CB than RB.
