Vela Injury Update + Mexico Madness

Arsenal striker Carlos Vela was rested for Mexico’s game with Panama, which ended with 3 players sent off.

Vela has made a surprisingly quick recovery from his injury suffered against Nicaragua, and was photographed training on Wednesday. However, it can be assumed that Aguirre (Mexico manager) decided to give his young striker some more time to heal rather than playing him in this bruising encounter.

In fact, it looks like Vela may well be fit for the final group game against Guadeloupe, who qualified last night with a win against Nicaragua. Vela himself had this to say on his injury:

“It was just a scare. But what a scare.”

The game itself was remarkable for its aggressive nature and crowd trouble. It ended 1-1 with both goals in the first half. Sabah for Mexico and Perez for Panama, but the real action occurred towards the end when Panama’s Phillips got sent off for a scuffle with Aguirre who was sent to the stands. There were also missiles thrown by Mexico fans at Panama’s goalscorer Perez, and a serious of incidents between sets of fans. Both teams were already down to ten men and the whole game was pretty messy.

Hopefully Vela will be able to restore a degree of class to Mexico on Sunday, and they’ll need to beat Guadeloupe to ensure progression.

Will Carlos ever have a proper pre-season with the Arsenal squad? It seems that Mexico always play at this sort of time in the year and although it’s good he’s playing for his country it immediately puts him at a disadvantage when he comes back. Wenger will give him time off and he’ll be playing catch up in terms of opportunities and fitness. It’s frustrating because he really needs to stake a claim this season otherwise he could get left in limbo

Blogger Idol is on going Dave. All the people who reached the second round have until midnight tonight to send their articles for round two. They will be judged over the weekend and the final three will be announced later in the week. It’s nice to see you taking an interest, mate.

I suppose it’s just good that Vela isn’t a regular at the minute, otherwise he’d be tired come the start of the season.

Great look forward to it – there’s not many blogs which offer that kind of interaction to it’s readers and its nice to see you doing it. Too true about Vela though, can’t wait for him to start getting properly involved!

Gianni has joined us as our international editor. He’ll be writing about everything to do with the players while they’re away on international duty, whereas the blogger idol winner will be working with me on all aspects.

Derik – I’ve not actually counted.

Really sick of seeing our players getting injured,jet-lagged and
basically screwed when going on intrenational “duty”。Why should we have to go through this season after season。There are too many meaninglees international competitions and should be reduced。F**k off FIFA!!

The Huracan midfielder Pastore signed for Palermo a five year deal. So he won’t come, but I don’t think we missed much with him. Hope he won’t prove me wrong next season though…
