QPR Agree Season Long Loan Deal For Simpson

Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers have struck a deal with Arsenal to sign Jay Simpson on a season long loan deal, with just a medical separating both parties from confirming the arrangement.

There is also murmurs coming from West London that QPR have a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ allowing them to sign Jay on a permanent basis should he impress sufficiently. The 20-year-old frontman impressed during a three-month loan spell with West Brom in the closing stages of last season, netting once in 13 Premier League games.

A selection of stale performances over pre-season saw Simpson rapidly fall out of favour with Arsène Wenger despite penning a new two-year-deal in January. Money bags QPR are expected to mix his duties as a striker with ones on the wing. Jay joins former Gunner Matthew Connolly at Loftus Road.

Speaking to the Kilburn Times, former Rangers favourite and now Arsenal coach Marcus Bignot expects Simpson to star with QPR, just like he did when the two played together for Millwall.

“I think the QPR fans will be excited by him.”

“Jay’s not a big lad but he certainly has a physical presence and he’s got a good shot in his locker as well. He’ll be a good addition to what’s already a strong squad at QPR.”

When quizzed on where he’ll play with the ‘R’s’, Bignot compared the dilemma to that which Wenger currently has with Theo Walcott.

“I’d put him in the Theo Walcott bracket in that Arsenal might not have decided yet whether he’s a wide player or a front man, but I think he’d prefer to be up top.”

Jay’s only appearance this campaign came for the Reserves against Fulham. The transfer should be confirmed in the coming days.

I think that could be the end of his Arsenal career. Shame, he’s definitely got something about him but the cold reality is that there are at least five or six strikers ahead of him at the moment. At 20 you want to be out of the reserves and playing games.

J, what do you think? Good or bad decision? Cause I think going to Burnley would have been a better decision

From what i saw the other night against Fulham, he’s not going to make it at Arsenal, this is a complete turn around in my thoughts about Jay from last season, he needs to go for his own good and find the level of football that suits him.

I hope this works out. What we REALLY need at QPR is someone who can hit the back of the net on a regular basis. This lad’s stats don’t inspire confidence from that point of view.

It would be sad if yet another English player who had so much promise failed to make it to the Arsenal first team. I remember when our hopes were so high with Matthew Connolly who he is now joining. Hope Jay could play well enough to join the Arsenal first team, but it looks like a long shot now!

I knew that this would happen as at the age of 20 you would really have to be promoted to the first team, yet Jay Simpson wasn’t even though Szczesney and Merida were, along with Wilshere and Gibbs. He did well against Wigan but that was only one game and to be honest he doesn’t really look prolific on paper. Having a good season in the Championship won’t do him any good, I think he needs to have an OUTSTANDING year at QPR if he is to have any chance of a first team berth at Arsenal.

Any word on whether Barazite, Murphy, Hoyte, Gilbert, Randall, and Gibbs/Traore will be loaned out this year? Randall desperately needs an opportunity to play somewhere else this season. Gibbs looked a little vulnerable last week against Pompey. Traore was promoted to the bench against Celtic, perhaps an encouraging sign for him. Gibbs needs experience and a loan spell for even half a season would do him a world of good. Gilbert … well, he’s had three loan spells and was back playing for the reserves last week. Is he to play in the Carling Cup this year or will they sell or loan him out? Rhys Murphy is at an age where he could play more regularly for someone else for awhile. Gavin Hoyte still doesn’t convince me that he’s ready for the first team and I’m not sure the reserve team will provide what he needs. Barazite, like Simpson, has too many people ahead of him right now and it would be better for him if he played regularly for someone else than languished on the bench. Hopefully Arsenal send at least a couple of these players off on loan in the next week.

    Hopefully it’s a loan-to-buy with a permanent-deal fee of around £2.5 million.

He might do well this year, he might break in to the first team … but weve got freeman and afobe and murphy and sunu, all very promising coming through he ranks aswell.

It makes me wonder why Jay Simpson signed a new contract here at Arsenal because if he is going to be constantly loaned out he might as well join another club for the sake of his football career IMO.

this loan move could make or break his Arsenal career imo. If he performs really well at Championship level then I feel he will get his chances next season. If he performs averagely or underperforms at Championship level, as much as I rate the lad, I doubt that he will be in Wenger’s plans in the long term.

the original newspaper which first broke the news, Ealing Gazette, claim that Wenger chose to send him to qpr because he did believe in him. The reason being that it is easier for Wenger to frequent follow his development when he is still in London. It is claimed among other Burnley were interested in him, WBA said they wanted him back before Mowbray left.

I think now we only need Barazite to get a loan move and all the important players are out. I would love to see Bartley in the Carling Cup and then getting a loan move after the competition is over.

Simpson wont make it. He lacks vision and high IQ. A forward who can’t provide good team play in the middle of the pitch don’t have anything to do in arsenal. Watt, wilshere, JET and Lansbury are no strikers but still they seems more dangerous in front of goal. Barazite seems waaaaaaaay better than simpson too.
