Wilshere To Miss Season Start After U20 Call Up

Jack Wilshere’s incredible talents have finally been recognised by his country. The diminutive play-maker has been called up to represent England’s Under 20’s next week in a friendly against Montenegro.

The national team selectors have kept Wilshere in his relevant age groups despite his rapid rate of development. However, after watching the 17-year-old star against Atlético Madrid and then demolish Scottish Champions Rangers last weekend, Brain Eastick has included Jack in a squad which he hopes will be largely available for him to take to Egypt for the Under 20 World Cup next month.

The squad includes a real mixture of players who featured for the Under 19’s and Under 21’s over the summer. The likes of Jack Cork and Danny Welbeck have all been selected from the Under 21 squad, and Eastick has tipped Wilshere to be in that age group in the next 12 months.

“Jack Wilshere is a real talent and we think he’ll be knocking on the door of the Under 20 and Under 21 teams this year.”

“But if you look at the squad, there’s a bit of a mixture and there are some that have been in the system, some that have just come back from Ukraine with the Under 19’s and one or two that we want to have a look at.”

There was no place for arguably the star of England’s Under 19 campaign Henri Lansbury, nor Gavin Hoyte or Rhys Murphy who also travelled to Ukraine last month. The Three Lions take on Uruguay, Ghana and Uzbekistan in the Group stages of the World Cup, and Wilshere is expected to be involved in that, meaning he would miss the start of Arsenal’s season.

Yes we can stop him from going. J Sanderson…you should note that aswell that he’s not guaranteed to go to the U20 World Cup. I’m sure this squad was announced before Rosicky got injured.

He will not go. None of the top names ever go to this tournament.

Welbeck couldn’t even finish the games in the U19’s tournament because he wasn’t fit and surprise surprise the fool Eastick still picks him. He’s pulled out now anyway.

Playing for the National Team is an honor, but since he will probably play in the 1st team and hopes to push himself straigt towards the senior NT…which is a major honor.

Why would he miss the start of the season? The game next week is in the same timeframe as the other internationals many of our players will be going to. As for the U21 world cup, it runs from 24/9 – 16/10. He wouldn’t be needed before 17/9.

JS whats happened with Henri Lanbsury? His he going on loan? I hope Arsene Wenger keeps him and bloods him in the carling cup like gibbs. I think Henri Lansbury is as good as Aaron Ramsey.

Also who is a better player in your opinion Freeman or Afobe? Freeman seems to score more goals than afobe and has better movement or am i wrong

Afobe is one of our and Englands biggest promising striker for a long time and you have to have intelligence to be in the right place and to create goals. He seems like a Eduardo type. And I am sure he will become a top striker this season and for many season ahead. Maybe he will be pushing for reserve leauge games and don’t get suprise if he make the bench in CC or even in the team.

It is a FIFA tournament and there is nothing baring an injury that Arsenal can do to stop Jack Wilshere going to the FIFA U20 World Cup and nor should they stop him because reason 1 it is a huge honor to play for you country like somebody mentioned above, and reason 2 it will be a great experience for him and the other players, because if we took internationl youth tournament football more seriously in this country we would produce better players for England as well IMO.

It’s a Fifa Youth tournament…so I’m sure the club has a big say in whether he can go or not.

I remember reading a few days ago made Steele available to go to Egypt should he get selected. So this means that the clubs have to release the players and it’s their decision to do so…not Fifa.

If Rosicky and Nasri were not injured…then ok, Wilshere should go. But both these two players are out and we are sevelerly thin on the wings.

Screw the national team. Playing for Arsenal, Man U or Liverpool is a bigger honour than playing for any national team. Club first; country second. Wenger must decide if he goes or not and the boy will be wise to listen to the boss. I do not want the boy to make the same mistake that Walcot has made and go against the boss’s wishes and look like a mug and be humiliated by those wankers at the FA.

Normally, being selected for the NT should be considered good news. However, the English age group teams have terrible managers and coaches, and play football the “wrong” way. Think Jack will largely be bypassed by long hoof-balls and then get slated for being “overrated”.

you guys realize Wenger didnt want Theo to goto the u21s this summer, and Pearce selected and played him anyway

I’d let him go. The standard’s not too bad, and it’s not as though Wilshere will be playing too many league games. If Wenger wants to use him while Samir and Tommy are injured then of course he should keep him back, but if he lets him go, he will have good reason to do so.

How come Welback has pulled out of the squad? I think id Arsenal can prove that Wilshere will be involved quite a lot in our games due to injuries in that area then surely the FA will be more than understanding. At U-19 and U-17 level Arsenal have always been supportive of our players playing for their country. Other Premier League clubs have pulled their players out from representing their country.

Also, what a stupid time to hold a tournament, I know some leagues have finished their season, but the major leagues are only just starting theirs.

Interesting to see Merida on the bench tonight. I read somewhere that the deal had yet to be finalised, maybe Arsenal are delaying due to Rosickys injury.

Krul impressed at the shot-stopping today, but he was all over the place at set-pieces. We are a team who are already poor in this area so we need a commanding keeper.

I agree with sooth in many ways, but I also feel that it could be good for Jack to learn a bit more about ‘ugly’ football. He has huge technical quality and a great understanding for the continental style game which Arsenal play. However, I think if he could learn to perform with less technical support around him, it will give him a competetive edge for when he faces teams who like to play that kind of game. He wouldn’t be away for too long, and it might be good for him to get a better idea of an alternative perspective on the game. He won’t forget the Arsenal way.

Guv – I see where ur coming from and you do have a point there but the point is that he will, more than likely, fail to live up to expectations (which is even greater now that Capello has actually singled him out as a real possibility to make the World Cup squad next summer) because the game will pass him by with Eastick’s poor style of play (trust, i play as a CM, and i’ve had to play in shit teams that deploy this long ball crap and it’s the worst thing ever, i end the game with a stiff neck sometimes, ha). All jokes aside though, when/if he doesn’t live up to the hype, the media will bring him down off that pedestal as quickly as they put him there, which will have a detrimental effect on his overall progression.

Arsenal can stop him going because its a youth tournament. Personally if Wenger sees him playing more games this season then he will not go plus as previously stated Rosicky & nasri are injured & the potential squad that England will pick lack technique, intelligence & vision for Jack to learn off or be on the same wave length.

Ghana – physical style, he can get experience of that in the prem

Uruguay – technical & intelligence, he can get from euro competition.

Uzbekistan – not a footballing nation.

if Wilshere doesnt want to play and the England coach agrees, he wont play… but if the coach calls him up, he plays… do you guys pay attention to international football? remember the olympics last year?

@ heem, talking out of your backside, full international yes, players must fulfill call-up but youth tournament, Arsenal can stop, even they could have stopped Theo going to U21s if it wasnt for Theo asking Arsene to let him go. Just look at how many CB were pulled by their clubs for Euro U19.

Wilshere played in the U17 euros last year then played in the Youth Cup final and Emirates Cup. He needs a rest or he’ll get burnt out. Hopefully Wenger can withdraw him by telling Eastick hes needed for the Carling Cup. And the England team is crap, won’t get anywhere.

supergunner07, you have no idea what you are talking about.

The rule applies to ALL FIFA tournaments. Or tournaments done by a confederation. Whether its the senior team or the u15s. Arsenal have no say. Like I said earlier, you were not paying attention to the Olympics controversy last year with Messi. If a player does not want to play and can talk the coach out of it, its fair play, but if the coach is being a prick, their is nothing the club can do about it. And their is no way Arsenal could have stopped Theo from going to the u21s, unless Theo got an “injury.”

this is what FIFA said last year over the olympics controversy:

“However, FIFA principles state clubs should make available any player aged 23 or under who is called up to their country’s Olympic squad.

A FIFA statement said: ‘The release of players younger than 23 for the Olympic Football Tournament since 1992 has always been accepted by all clubs. For Beijing 2008, the same principle shall apply.’

Hardcore & Sooth tell it as it is. International football is a joke & a complete waste of time. If Wilshere goes & picks up an injury, it could set his progress back immeasurably. Why risk it?

Personally, i’d like it if NONE of our players played for their cuntries. Keep ’em fresh for the stuff that really matters.

TJ, there will be the odd unsatisfied murmurings, but in an U21 tournament, the media won’t take it too seriously. I have faith in him to put in some acceptable performances even in difficult conditions. He doesn’t have to set the world on fire, as long as he plays a good part. To be honest I’d be more concerned if he scord hat-tricks in every game, then we’d really be in trouble when he enters the national 1st team set-up.

No doubt Jack is exceptional, but do you feel on the whole the quality of players coming through the academy has improved, in terms of technique. Especially since the ‘Premiership Generation’, with all the football on TV.
