Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal currently have five Reserves & Youth players gaining experience elsewhere. Striker Jay Simpson is taking part in his third loan spell in as many years with West London outfit Queens Park Rangers. He is joined in the Championship by Henri Lansbury and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who are with Watford and Blackpool respectively.
The Gunners currently have two youngsters cutting their teeth abroad. Pedro Botelho is spending his third successive loan spell in the Spanish Segunda, but this time with Celta de Vigo, while Håvard Nordtveit is spending the campaign in Germany with Nuremberg.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas played the full 90 minutes as Blackpool were beaten 2-1 by Leicester City.
The giant powerhouse played in central midfield and provided the killer the ball for Charlie Adam to equalise following Matty Fryatt’s opener. However, Fryatt was on target again with half an hour left to see Jay’s new side suffer defeat.
Jay Simpson played the full 90 minutes on his home debut as Queens Park Rangers drew 1-1 with newly promoted Peterborough United.
Simpson combined with Tottenham loanee Adel Taraabt to setup Wayne Routledge who applied a cool finish to level following Aaron McLeans strike for United. Jay should have won it near the end but blazed a simple chance into the stand.
Henri Lansbury played 85 minutes as Watford edged out Barnsley by a single goal.
Lansbury looks to have firmly broken into Malky Mackay’s plans as the Scottish manager earned his first win of the season thanks to a Danny Graham goal. Henri had two opportunies to open his account with the Hornets but he was finally replaced by Jon Harley 5 minutes from time.
Havard Nordtveit played the whole 90 minutes as Nuremberg beat Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0.
Nordtveit could have scored from a corner in the first half but otherwise continued his impressive defensive performance as a Peer Kluge strike just 6 minutes into the game proved to be decisive.
Pedro Botelho played 77 minutes as Celta Vigo drew 1-1 with UD Levante.
The Brazilian, who has already admitted he is not fully fit, turned in a decent shift as Celta came from behind to secure a point.

Nordtveit was back to CB. part of a fiveback line..
the all got goood match time this week which is great news
Jay is taking the Championship by storm.. Nordveit idem for the Bundesliga.
Very true BooMer, thank you for that.
Very good to see all the lads getting some form of action – even better that they all started.
Also heard Pedro Botelho was very good hes got rated 8/10 in the player ratings. Went on a celta vigo forum site they seem to rate him highly. I have to say i like the kid alot but i want to see him play left wing. The guys a giant as well hes a 6ft 3 winger. Hes got pace to burn and great dribbler. Something arsenal miss at the moment.
JS whats happeing with armand traore? Luke Ayling? kerre Gilbert?
I’ve been reading on different forums lately.
The Blackpool fans doesn’t rate JET. Think he loses the ball too much, shows poor workrate and also is too lightweight (!).
The Watford fans rate Lansbury quite a bit and reckons him to be a quility player with time. He played good at the weekand in a 5-man midfield.
Simpson played as a lone striker for QPR, and their fans reckon him to be a lot better if he could get a partner up front.
Henri lansbury has always been better than jay Thomas. Last season cause of the FA youth cup and cause thomas was shwoing some tricks and skills ppl started lauding him up.
Henri lansbury is one of the best young central mdifielders in the country but the thing is gooners havent seen him play central midfield for the arsenal youth/reserves teams. The guy is a macth winner hes like a gerrard, fabregas. Hes got the mentality
Umm. QPR is firmly in the West of London. I should know, I live about 10 mins. drive away. Otherwise, stellar read.
Concur with the above – Lansbury is the best of this bunch and hopefully we’ll see him in centre-midfield asap. The way he’s overcome the glandular fever is admirable.
Henri lansbury is as good as aaron ramsey he just needs to build his fitness up i can see him doing a kieran gibbs. Went ot norwhcih than came back for arsenal.
Henri lansbury for me will be the next to break through. Hes got the inteligence and hes match winner
I like Lansbury, he has potential, but he needs to improve technically if he wants to make it at Arsenal (His first touch is a bit heavy).
And I don’t think he is better than Jet. Jay is way more skillfull.
Jet was probably arsenal’s best u18 player last year. He was the best player on the pitch against tottenham in the fa youth cup, scored goals for fun. A real match winner.
I think a long loan spell will do JET good. A month or so won’t be long enough, he needs to change some of the lazy stages of his game.

HENRI LANSBURY DONE IT FOR ENGLAND UNDER 17S HE WAS THEIR BEST PLAYER IN THE UNDER 19 AND UNDER 17S A COUPPLE OF YEARS AGO. EDEN HAZARD WAS BELGIUM BEST PLAYER AND KIRKIC FOR SPAIN BEST PLAYER AND LANSBURY WAS ENGLANDS BEST PLAYERS.
Lansbury, krkic, hazard were the star players lansbury been unlucky with his illness.
John – So he was the best player when he played u17 tournament.. ehmm.. so? It’s a hell of a different to be the best player in u17 and be one of the decent player in Arsenals first team!! Just beacouse he was so good then dosen’t mean he is the best player right now. JET is not even in the england squad but we all know how good he really is. I haven’t seen him do a bad game for a long long time. Lansbury is very very good too but if he’s the best player I don’t know. I really don’t care whos gonna make it in Arsenal. JET will play in carling cup so lets see how good he is then. its just a matter of time when JET will be feature in england squad again. I am so impressed by both players acctually manage to get playing time, making assist and goals.
I agree with you both the players are a real promise in the future for Arsenal thanks Jam.

I think Lansbury overall is slightly the better player, but they’re both very good. However, Lansbury will find it very difficult to break into the first team because of the amount of central midfielders that are already established. In some ways it may be easier for JET to break into the first team as he is quite a unique player, and a different type of player from anyone in the first team. The only person that may be seen as slightly similar is Diaby but only because of build (even then JET is more powerful), not particularly because of the way they play. I hope Lansury makes it though, he’s a quite brilliant central midfielder, and has shown he’ll make a good captain one day regardless of club.
It looked like the young guys performed well in their matches and that’s what you want. http://bobbygee.wordpress.com/
