Capello – Arsenal Have Set An Important Example

England Manager Fabio Capello has spoken of his delight at the current state English Academies, before proclaiming that Arsenal have set the bench mark for the rest of the Premier League to follow.

Speaking to FIFA.com, Capello was quizzed about the wrath of talent currently at Under 21 level and below. Arsenal are noted for having a plethora of players in all of the England youth sides and the Italian-born coach believes playing for your country at an early age is important.

“When you play at any level in England, you play against good teams, but not the same level as you would do in international games against international teams. You also start to understand what it means to wear the England shirt – and that’s really important.”

The 63-year-old then went on to discuss the current state of youth development in the country, where Arsenal’s model was mentioned. Due to the fact that England’s training base is the Gunners’ London Colney centre, Fabio gets to cast an eye over the Under 18 squad who train on adjacent pitches.

“I’m very lucky, because I’ve had the opportunity to look at Arsenal’s academy where the England team train and their work is incredibly good. It’s a very important example for the other English academies. I’m very interested in the academies of the clubs in England, but they all seem to be working very well.”

“I’m very, very happy about the future of England and I think it will be better.”

Capello is believed to be weighing up the idea of taking 17-year-old Jack Wilshere to this summers World Cup.

He would like to take Jack Wilshere and possibly Kieran Gibbs and another academy kid, Jack Rodwell… Capello realises academies are important. Perhaps thanks to him, Arsenal will finally get the recognition they deserve…

Can you explain what the word wrath means? My knowledge would say vengeful, but I fail to see the context. Cheers.

I don’t think the England U21s are a particularly angry bunch.

Thank god we are finally going 2 be recognised and appreciated 4 the good work and investments we put in our academy team not those stupid and marginalized reporters that always want 2 criticise us for not having an english player in the senior team. Time is coming when We’ll have 11 players on the pitch playing 4 england. Hahahaha! Happy days are ahead. Go on u young guns

chelsea banned from the transfer market for two transfer windows because of the Kakuta case with Lens. Could say we have been lucky not to suffer the same fate as actually Merida went through a similar trial between Arsenal and Barcelona

Yes, and thankfully we did or we would probably have suffered the same fate as the Chavs. We’ve already been taken to court and punished so they can’t touch us with regards to Fran’s case. Still, i’m not sure we tapped him up.

I’m actually shocked that they’ve hit them so hard on this. Naturally, they’ll appeal and it would get reduced in some way.

I’d be surprised if Chelsea appeal it, Abrahamovich is going to love an excuse like this NOT to put his hand in his pocket again. Whatever happened to Zhirkov anyway?

J, all our youth transfers have been above board, right? right?

Zhirkov’s injured.Chelsea will hav to beg/ pay over the odds to keep any players who want to leave:)however even with this squad Chelsea are the strongest this season. This ban will hurt them in the summer transfer window & as a result : nxt season.

Now Chelsea will have to promote players as some of their big players want to leave,
New signings are important, and if Chelsea don’t add to their squad , players will want to leave.
Some of their loanees( Di Santo , Stoch, Sinclair, Mancienne, Rajkovic) are going to be promoted next season… I think its time Hutchinson, Sawyer,Bridcutt,Cork,Bertrand ,Magnay and Cummings , showed what they can do,
Perhaps, Taiwo and Woods can also show their potential!

Luckily Arsenal don’t have limited talent,

The only Chelsea players with potential are:
    -Fabio Borini…
    -Daniel Philliskirk…
    -Gokhan Tore…
-Gael Kakuta, whom this problem is about , so he better be good.

No idea about their younger players,

seriously how much will it matter? they got squad with depth and experience. They are getting old, but still good for a couple of years. I hope they take the chance to develop their own academy though. I do not have knowledge to judge their talent, only hearing the words of Kenyon and Terry or was it Lampard. After the cash flow in English football its worrying to think that you might loose the club spirit that has always made the league so attractive. Guys like Adams, Dixon and Bould and now seen in Burnley who fight for their club. Though I guess one dont get rid of the big sulks or cashleys

Re the 2 million fine. My understanding is that was a fine on Merida which Arsenal decided to pay on his behalf, and not a fine against Arsenal. Arsenal were not guilty of tapping up in this case.

aaron: Stoch is barely impressing for FC Twente, that says enough. Bruma is hyped in the Netherlands but not better (or much worse) than Ayling, Boateng or Hoyte, but I rate Bartley higher (I am Dutch so I know Bruma)

I remember when Sinclair came on against us and Mourinho said afterward that Walcott should have joined Chelsea, there he would have gotten a chance like Sinclair did. Fuck off Chelsea and Mourinho, I am already looking forward to seeing Terry and co. anguishing without new signings (although I reckon they will be champions by then).

If Wilshere is to have a chance to get selected then he needs to play, 20 minutes against Celtic, that’s it. Common Wenger, this kid is way too good to be kept on the bench. He shouldn’t be in the starting line up but why sub Eboue on in an already won game?

Szczesny has been called up to the senior Poland site, Wilshere again in the U-21

Szczesny has the potential to be one of the top keepers in the World. Him and Asenjo are the two most promising young (under 21 years old) ‘keepers i have seen lately. Obviously Szczesny hasn’t had that much exposure yet but he will. I’m happy for the lad with his call-up.

Stone – I couldn’t agree more with regards to Wilshere. AW needs to let him off the leash more often. Okay, you have to protect the lad as well and keep him out of the limelight but he’s a much better creative option than Eboue and Diaby and deserves to feature more – not just in the CC. JW on the same pitch as Cesc, Arshavin and Eduardo = a hell of a lot of trouble for absolutely anyone. This is simply down to their wavelengths being on the same sort of level. Add to these guys Rosicky, Nasri and Merida. RVP, Bendtner and Ramsey for all their good attributes dont seem to click in the same way.

Haho – Is Stoch flopping at Twente then? Is he getting a lot of chances to impress? I rate that kid a lot. He reminds me of Nedved in a way. Very good prospect i feel.

Arsenal did not get fined for signing Merida, in fact Merida got fined, Arsenal were found to have done nothing wrong. Arsenal have never been accused of tapping up any player.

We didn’t get fined. When we first signed Merida is was for peanuts but last year Barca took us to trial over it and we were ordered to stump up about £2m(?) or so for him for whatever reason. It wasn’t for tapping him up though.

    no, eduardo is right –

    Barca took Merida to court

Arsenal effectively agreed to pay the fine for him –

But to ask a 15 year old kid to pay £2m because he has cost his club a future transfer fee of that order or something doesn’t feel right at all so that’s why they are at appeal (plus not wanting to pay the money of course lol)

TJ da Goon: Stoch is not flopping, but neither is he really leaving any impression. You expect a young player of some name to have a big impact, especially in that kind of league (most teams are lower Championship of League One level) He is being called a good player, but you would think he would be hailed as a great talent, and he just is nt
