Arsenal 2-2 Wolves – Nasri Assist On Reserves Duty

Neil Banfield’s Reserves maintained their unbeaten start to the season yet lost their 100% record after sharing the spoils with Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening.

Samir Nasri and Łukasz Fabiański both made their comebacks following lengthy injuries as the Gunners had to come from behind despite taking the lead to claim a point. Gilles Sunu had got things going on 21 minutes following a superb passing move but a thumping header from Richard Stearman meant Fabiański lost his clean sheet and Banfield’s boys had it all to do. Wolves then took the lead via Ashley Hemmings before Sanchez Watt levelled within 60 seconds of Hemmings goal.

Arsenal began reasonably well and could have taken the lead when a lovely team move saw Watt lash over the ball on the turn. More pressure continued before Coquelin fed Nasri and the French maestro snapped an excellent pass into Sunu who finished emphatically.

Fabiański had to make two superb saves before Richard Stearman crashed home a left wing cross to put the score’s level. The half time break came and went with more Wolves pressure and they made it count again when Hemmings smashed a powerful drive from 30 yards beyond the reach of Arsenal’s number one.

Instantly they hit back though and after Watt side-stepped his marker, his scuffed shot squirmed beyond the stopper and into the net. 2-2 and although both teams had further chances, it was the fairest result.

Davo – I think big kudos have to go to Nasri. He was very impressive – even the Wolves fans would admit so

DS – yes Coquelin has been the Reserve player of the year so far. Constant energy and a superb passer.

coquelin and bartley really stood out for me today as they have done all season so far. however wolves looked a really accomplished team and looked dangerous going forward. overall a good point for the lads.

Coquelin passes to Nasri, who sets up Sunu to score . . . How many years before we can see them doing that for both Arsenal and the French national squad? Its a question of when, not if, in my mind.

AmeriGoon, well to see Le Coq and Nasri partner up could happen but I wouldn’t be as sure about Sunu.

I am so glad to see Nasri is finally coming back (thanks Diaby, btw.). Now we can finally get our best midfield together with him, Cesc and Song. Do you think Nasri will play against Liverpool in the CC? It would surprise me.

Fabulous to have Nasri back, particularly with the absense of Theo now…quality player Nasri, hopefully Wenger puts him in central midfield, I don’t see him being as versatile as Rosicky, who has more pace on the ball and hence seems more suited to occupying one of the forward roles…

Anyway, completely off topic, but is anyone else astounded by the ridiculous ‘injury crisis’ claims at Liverpool right now? The injury to Torres is minor and has kept him out for only a few games. That happens all the time!

I always put injuries down to luck, pure and simple. People over-analyse these things (ie Theo getting scythed down by Ridgewell doesn’t mean he’s injury-prone, just unlucky). But how the hell have Liverpool been as unlucky as everyone makes out? Losing your two best players at the same time (only for a few matches though, check Torres and Gerrard’s wikipedia pages, they both have very good injury records), ok that’s unlucky, but for me it’s a relatively small thing.

At the moment, Pool have Gerrard, Torres, Riera, Krgiakos, Johnson, and Aquilani out for this w/e. Fine, that’s not great, but most of those injuries are short term, and if we were to compare with Arsenal at the moment, we have Rosicky, Bendtner, Eduardo, Theo, Denilson and Djourou all out, with Nasri and Fabianski coming back through the reserves. To me that’s MORE of a ‘crisis’ than Liverpool’s situation, especially since our injuries are more long-term, but because Arsenal have been incredibly unlucky since probably the 06/07 with injuries, people don’t talk about it.

Go to BBC Sport front page if you want to read about Benitez’s ‘crisis’. God damn it.

    Rant over.

As I see it, probably not only me, almunia was dropped, in my opinion rightly, then what can you say about fabianskis performance because he look like to be the no. 1 vito is to young and unexperienced to me and can anyone say whats happened to tom cruise? not in reserves nor in u18 from what I saw he is a decent player but I dont see him week-in week-out but only in youth cup last season.

Not yet convinced by Fabianski, he seems to be somewhat over-impulsive and makes too many mistakes.Getting sick of hearing how much we will learn from our mistakes from the likes of Diaby (who could bring on the reserves first defeat when he returns).Arshavin, Rosicky, Nasri inspire CONFIDENCE which needs to continue amongst the reserve ranks!!

Thanks but should we worry about him? In long term it can disturb his developement.

I dont know why really Arsene buys left-backs like Traore or Bothelo while wee seem to produce as good or even maybe better? Gibbs, Evina and Cruise :)

The picture is quite old, it was taken during a pre-season tournament we played in Malaysia a couple of years ago.
