Arsenal V Wolves – Reserves – Match Preview

Reserves League South returns this evening as Arsenal travel to Telford’s New Bucks Head ground to take on their Wolverhampton Wanderers counterparts looking to defend their 100% record this season.

Neil Banfield’s rampant side are the complete contrast of the current Under 18 team who have a new look following the promotion of several youngsters who are now excelling in the second string. But their places are threatened with the news that Young Guns revealed last week that first team duo Samir Nasri and Łukasz Fabiański will be in the squad looking to put the finishing touches to their rehabilitation after injuries.

With the Carling Cup approaching rapidly the chances to impress are running out and with Wolves expected to bring a strong squad including a scattering of first team players, this fixture presents a real opportunity to stake a claim for Arsene Wenger’s Cup squad for the trip to Mersyside in a week’s time.

In Sanchez Watt and Gilles Sunu Banfield has two reliable forwards who both have a couple of goals each this term. The central midfield has been another promising area with Francis Coquelin turning in superb performance followed by superb performance. A similar outcome alongside his compatriot Nasri should see the Gunner’s home.

Kyle Bartley should lead a solid back four containing Ignasi Miquel who was rested by Steve Bould at the weekend. The 4-3-3 has been a useful tool this term and with options a plenty we’re going to pluck for a front three of Sunu, Murphy and Watt.

Predicted Starting XI

Fabiański
Gilbert – Ayling – Bartley – Miquel
Randall – Coquelin – Nasri
Sunu – Murphy – Watt

The fixture is a 7pm kick off at Telford’s New Bucks Head ground. Arsenal TV Online are expected to stream the game live although this is not confirmed. However, Young Guns will have a full Match Report on the full-time whistle.

    What about Senderos and Traore?

Both didn’t travel to Alkmaar, so I expect them to play at Wolves to stay match-fit.

    Fabianski

    Gilbert – Bartley – Senderos – Traore

    Randall – Coquelin – Nasri

    Barazite – Sunu – Watt

Just the perfect game to give Nasri and Fabianski a run out, as they work to return to the first team. The younger lads could do with the “company” of senior team mates. Here’s wishing the team the very best of luck.

You think Nasri will start the Carling Cup game? He needs to get to match fitness and against Liverpool it wouldn’t hurt to have such a level headed first teamer…

Bobby Gee is rather annoying, isn’t he Pedro. But with that last comment of yours, and the irritating use of capitals (are you trying to compensate for something?) you climb just ahead of him in the list of people I’d like to see moderated.

The Wolves starting XI looks like this:

    —————— Ikeme —————-
    – Metcalf . Malone . Stearman – Hill –
    – Mendez-Laing – Davis – Rooney – Surman –
    ——— Iwelumo —— Hemmings ——–

Ikeme is our 3rd keeper and Metcalf and Malone are 18-year olds (Malone plays in England U19). Stearman and Hill are just outside our first eleven as is Surman. Iwelumo is on his way back from injury. Rooney, Mendez-Laing, Davis and Hemmings are young and coming second team players.

You will probably win rather easy, I think. But you will have problems meeting our first team;-)

If thats the confirmed line up, its odd that there are only four subs! And does that mean Nasri will always be playing in the front 3 or thats just for today?

@ TJ DA GOON, Armand Traore’s recovery run [he is always jogging back] instead sprinting into position and positioning is awful as well.

Supergunner – I know that mate. He clearly doesn’t like the defensive side of the game but he’s much better than Evina right now. I doubt he’s in the first team squad for tonight too. Haven’t checked the squad yet.

Just checked the squad and there’s no Traore. I guessed the line-up he’d go with too:

    Mannone
    Sagna-Gallas-Vermaelen-Clichy
    Fabregas-Song-Diaby
    Eboue-RVP-Arshavin

I hate Eboue playing anything other than RB. I love him at RB. He gives us another attacking dimension there although defensively he’s quite poor. However, he doesn’t have the ability to pick a final ball ‘consistently’ enough to play in midfield. Good, strong runner but usually flops his final ball when he gets into those attacking positions. Poor guy even got booed last year against Wigan cos AW insists of playing him in midfield. He might have a good game every now and then there – as, he ironically displayed in the 4-0 win over Wigan a few weeks ago, he might even have a decent game tonight, but he can’t always do the biz there. We lose our fluency when he plays in midfield.
