Loanees – Simpson Scores Again & Botelho V Cygan

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal currently have six Reserves & Youth players gaining experience elsewhere. Jay Simpson is taking part in his third loan spell in as many years with West London outfit Queens Park Rangers. He is joined in the Championship by Henri Lansbury and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who are with Watford and Blackpool respectively. Gavin Hoyte has made his second loan move in a year by sealing a temporary switch to Brighton in League One.

The Gunners currently have two youngsters cutting their teeth abroad. Pedro Botelho is spending his third successive loan spell in the Spanish Segunda, but this time with Celta de Vigo, while Håvard Nordtveit is spending the campaign in Germany with Nuremberg.

Read all the latest reports below.

Jay Simpson played 77 minutes and scored for Queens Park Rangers as they thrashed Preston North End 4-0 at Loftus Road.

Starting as the lone front man in a 4-5-1, QPR took the lead on 11 minutes when Tottenham loanee Adel Taarabt went on an awesome jinking run before curling home a stunning right footed drive. Promotion chasing Preston pressed on in search for the equalizer before a second half demolition saw the hosts press home their advantage.

Akos Buzsaky clipped home a penalty before Simpson made it 3-0 when he took the ball on the left hand side, skipped into the box and curled home a Thierry Henry-esque shot inside the post. Wayne Routledge wrapped up the win with a great run followed by a lashed right foot effort which fell neatly into the net.

Henri Lansbury started and completed the 90 minutes for Watford as they edged out Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

The England Under 19 captain started in central midfield in a 4-5-1 as Malky Mackay opted for a defensive approach against one of the promotion favourites. But Boro’ are a struggling team at the moment and Lansbury was involved in a move which led to Danny Graham poking the ball through to Man Utd loanee Tom Cleverley who finished well on 26 minutes.

Henri turned in a brilliant display in the middle despite being fouled several times by French hard-man Didier Digard and it seems Mackay is honing Henri’s talents as a holding midfielder.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was an unused substitute for Blackpool as they beat Plymouth Argyle 2-0.

Emmanuel-Thomas watched on bored from the bench as Ian Holloway took the points from his former club. Marcel Seip, making his debut after moving on loan from Plymouth, scored from a corner against the team who let him go before a cracker from David Vaughan sealed the win. It finished 2-0.

Håvard Nordtveit was an unused substitute for Nuremberg as they beat Hertha Berlin 3-0. The Norwegian youngster was rested following international duty.

Daniel Gygax and a brace from Albert Bunjaku saw Nuremberg comfortably take all three points.

Pedro Botelho started and played the full 90 minutes as Celta Vigo held top of the table Cartagena to a 1-1 draw.

Cartagena, who boast former Arsenal and Villareal defender Pascal Cygan, are the early pace setters and they showed it by racing into an early lead following a dubious penalty. Víctor converted it and although it appeared to be the winner, Dani Abalo bagged a deserved equalizer.

I know I’m late with this J but is the Wellington deal dead? Or are we just waiting until he’s 18 like Damian Martinez?

Henri Lansbury wasnt he a defensive midfielder at arsenal? I see him as a box to box player. He can tackle, shoot, dribble, great passer, got pace and can score goals.

Hes very versatile as well he could play right back, right wing, left wing, central midfielder and off the striker.

I really like lansbury its only about fitness and strength for him

i really wonder what arsene’s plans for jay are? 3 loan spells in 3 years and i really can’t see him coming back and forcing his way into the first team fray though it seems to me that he is doing quite well.
hope we don’t lose the young lad, maybe another loan spell at a premiership club next term. fulham maybe?
    we shall see

I’m looking forward to seeing him back at the Club but if he’s going to play week-in week-out at watford it’s better for him to stay there rather than fighting for place on the bench here at Arsenal.

So I dont see any reason why England won’t be the Champions of World in next 10 years with such great Arsenal Academy :) I already imagine this England wining squad…

I’m really hoping Henri makes it hes got that something special about his play. When arsenal played the first leg of the youth cup final he along with Jack Wilshere were the outstanding players that day there vision and skill was way above anyone else.

Was Nordtveit called up to the full norway team or under 21s?

Lansbury is a Wilshere with less style. Definitely a first team player although I don’t know strong he is. Hopefully he has grown. I agree that Simpson won’t make it at the highest level but he is a hard worker and a good lad. Hopefully he’ll end up at West Ham or Birmingham.

Lansbury reminds me a little bit of denilsson. And Maybe he will be the next one who will make it at arsenal but he will be 3rd choice after song and denilsson. I can’t see him go ahead of Ramsey, diaby, fabregas, wilshere, nasri, bentner, rocisky, arshavin, rvp, arshavin, walcott… and a few more…. maybe he will be ahead of eboue in the wing but doesn’t seems likely. It will be very very tough to make it but nothing is impossible and a loan spell is not bad at all if you think about it. The one with patient will maybe be the one who actually make it. This is why its so damn hard to make it in a big club like Arsenal. The competition is ruthless. I wish all the kids a big good luck. I hope my favorites make it.

@ John, Lansbury cant play left midfield and he certainly not a dribbler. You over-excitement is extremely annoying, HL has alot of work to be done on his game before he is a 1st team. His composure, game understanding, maneuvering of the ball in tight space, left foot needs alot of work

Dixie, I don’t think Lansbury can be compared with Wilshere, very very different type of players

Lansbury is being outplayed by Cleverly, who surprisingly might be a top player. Lansbury great vision and passing ability, but isn’t a great athlete. I do think Lansbury can make it at the highest level if he can improve technically. He really isn’t that big of a prospect.

Don’t think Simpson has what it takes to make it at Arsenal.
He’s a good kid but he’s a Championship level player.
I think Lansbury will have to play another year on loan because Ramsey & Merida are ahead of him on squad fringes.
