Nasri & Fabiański Penciled In For Reserves Return

First team duo Samir Nasri and Łukasz Fabiański have been penciled in for Reserve team run outs later this month as they complete the final stages of their rehabilitation from knee and leg injuries respectively.

Manager Arsène Wenger has already confirmed the pair will return to full training during next weeks international break and he will make checks to decide how short they are before match action. Therefore the Reserves League South clash against Wolves on the 20th of October could see both Samir and Łukasz make their first appearances of the season.

Nasri has been missing since pre-season when the 22-year-old’s leg took the full brunt of a Abou Diaby shot during a training game. Fabiański’s knee problem wasn’t believed to be serious but it has taken longer than expected to heal, meaning Vito Mannone has jumped notably up the pecking order. The Polish stopper has previously turned out for the Reserves in a bid to keep up fitness levels but this time around he’ll be in action aiming to build them back up. However, with the form of the aforementioned Mannone, a real battle is set to break out for the right to be number one if speculation is right that Manuel Almunia has infact been dropped.

Wenger will assess the pair before the 20th in the hope that they will be ready enough to go straight into the first-team, or indeed need some game time with the second-string.

I can’t wait to see Nasri on the pitch again. We have missed him badly. A midfield of him, Cesc and Song is really something to look forward to. Don’t care too much about Fabiansky though, Mannone and Szczesny are better.

Marvelous, what a lovely problem to have on our hands.
Players in form playing for their right to be in Arsenal
first team. Absolutely godsent. On the evidence of the form
Manone showed at Craven Cottage, he is sitting preety.

    Almunia
    Sagna Gallas Vermaelen Clichy
    Song Cesc
    Nasri Arshavin Rosicky
    Van Persie

Now that’s one formidable attacking force.

Almunia has been bad in every single game this season, apart from few when he was awful. It’s not a coincidence that suddenly we have kept three consecutive clean sheets. I’m not saying Mannone is a world beater but he sure as hell is better than Almunia, even without any conceivable experience.

since when has Almunia been dropped? I thought he was injured? Very glad to hear about Fabianski though I feel he is our best keeper and can become very good if he eradicates his silly erratic errors.

It is a pity it needed the injury of Almunia for Wenger to realise he was no good. What is it with this manager ? If ALMUNIA REMAINED FIT HE WOULD HAVE CONTINUED PLAYING.

Unlucky Fabianki could have made the number one spot his if he was not injured. He will shortly be our number one becuase he is very good. He only needs a bit of experience.

Since when has Almunia been dropped? Since when does a chest infection, cough! cough! cough! with some chest pains and perhaps cold to go with it takes that long to heal?

Its unfortunate that it took Arsene so long to realise how average the Spanish GK pretender is. He made the Arsenal defence so average, conceding goals in almost every game. His inability to pull the kind of saves to earn us vital draws and wins as VDS, Reina and Cech all do for their clubs at times is well known.

We’ve had great GKs before, Jennings, Seaman and Jens come to mind and they won us titles and trophies but Almunia is incapable of winning anything for us unless we get rid of him once and for all.

Good riddance. Any GK who’s not considered by his national team is not good for the Arsenal.

Crocker: Wenger has been notorious at bringing up fake injuries when players have been dropped to keep their bad form or lost love for the club out of the limelight. See Flamini, Adebayor, Edu, Henry (!), Wiltord, Reyes, Lehmann, Senderos, I have my suspicions he did it with Kolo etc.

Almunia won’t play against Blackburn and then we have an International break. I have no idea if he has been dropped and it seems that JS was referring to speculations he heard rather than some concrete information. It’s rather obvious, I think, that he is being held out of the team because of his bad performances. He might very well regain his place after the break, at least now he will realize that he is not irreplaceable and will need to perform much, much better if he is to keep his place.

With a midfield of Cesc, Arshavin, Rosicky, Nasri and Song we will run the premership. No other team has a stronger attacking minded midfield than the Arsenal!!! Can’t wait…don’t rush it Samir come back when your completley fit!

Mane is by far the better disribution keeper at the arsenal, Almunia “kick it long every time”, frustrates the HECK out of me. Many looks for distribution FIRST, kick second. Also hes one hell of a stopper.

Mannone is good, but Szczesny is a monster as well. I will enjoy the fight between those two to take the number two spot from Lucasz Fabianski over next summer.

Almunia never could shake the image I planted in my head of ‘im, ball sliding between his legs in the Champions League final. Maybe it is a bit rash of me, but he never inspired confidence as a goalkeeper. He is well above-average, totally worth more than he was when Arsene took him under his wing from Spain; however, he is also not known for being the top of the charts for reaction, calm decision making or pure brute strength/wingspan.

Fabianski might pull off a few blunders last season, but he showed top talent for reading incoming shots. He has very fast reflexes to the ball, sometimes his decisions are too rash, but I think he is coming into the time where he can make use of his gifts on the pitch. Especially with the competition for spots from Vito on down to the 16 year olds.

“the 22-year-old’s leg took the full brunt of a Abou Diaby shot during a training game”??? must have been a hell of a shot!!!
almunia might not be top world class but i wouldn’t be comfortable with a 21 year old permanently in goal. goalies need usually till their 30s to mature and gain vital experience. can’t think of any top team with a 20-something in goal, casillas aside.

anyone else notice that 8 inch knob left off Cesc of his complete lineup a few comments ago? that’s a bit disheartening.

having Nasri back will be splendid, let’s just not re-re-re-aggravate his injury, like Dudu.

Yes yes yes… With Nasri and song partnering cesc in the midfield and with arshavin on the left, Rosicky on the right and RvP in the middle of the attack… we are gonna be damn strong!!!!!!!!

Otherwise, Eduardo on the left, Bendtner in the middle and walcott on the right with denilson, song and cesc looks great too!!!!

Seriously, i hope wenger stops playing diaby. He is the worst piece of shit i have ever since. Headless chicken playing football the anti-arsenal way. He is a disgrace to be called the next vieira. He broke nasri’s leg, he got himself the chance to impress and all he does is score own goals and slow the game down. He is useless!!!

Hope nasri, denilson and song can provide the DM shield that we need..

On the gk issue, i believe we should give mannone a chance. Ever since he came on, he has kept clean sheets. Seriously i think its worth to give him a go at games. Even if almunia and fabianski are back, mannone has my vote to remain as keeper. The way he saves the shots from andy johnson’s in the fulham game shows that he has quick reflexes as well. Almunia has been disappointing lately, failing to keep clean sheets and letting man city scoring 4 goals. He should pull up his socks and work harder. I believe it will more or less be fabianski and mannone next season. If mannone gets it, then we would have a gk that can probably last for 10 seasons, another seaman?? Certainly hope so…

I think Wenger gave us all a clue when he said “Mannone is the No1 till the next match” After a couple of seasons with no real competition, we now have 3 or 4 keepers competing for the 1st team, 5 or 6 that can play in the rserves and competition at u18, u16 as well. All that said I would be far happier if we go and get a truly world class keeper as none of ours can claim to be that, in fact only Fabianski gets near the no.1 spot for his country – Poland, hardly one of the world greatest footballing nations. Almunia, Silvester and Diaby to be replaced in the squad in January. Green, Upson or Cahill or Curtis Davies, Vieira(temp replacement for Song) Parker or Reo-Coker will do for me. I also expect Chamaakh in with Vela & Barazite going on loan, for rest of season

It’s a very complicated one with the goalkeepers. When Almunia had Lehmann breathing down his neck he was very, very good. Now that he’s a guaranteed starter he’s lost a bit of his focus. I say don’t rush him straight back to the team, make him work for his place. Having said that, he’s still number 1.

Almunia has never been great, always and still average. In o7/08 season, his performance at the WHL was dreadful and nearly cost us. In fact, in 08/09 season, he was poor against, the Spurs, Hull and the 41 yards free kick by Ronaldo was no better. There are so many games he’s been poor since he took over from Lehmann.

He can’t win the title for us because he’s average.

i disagree gooners. i support audi that almunia is still our number one. he was soo good that he relaced jens. the other goalkeepers have never given him a run 4 his money hence the complacency. he has now sensed it and he will work harder. he took them 4 granted coz they are young. fabianski has been with us 4 a while so y have people thot he is suddenly better? how come he never took almunias place back then? the stakes are higher this time round and if a 12 year old can guarantee clean sheets or wins then he will be played. one thing thats clear is that the competition for places once everyone is back will make arsenal…how do i put this delicately…. DEADLIER!

nicely put Brian.whenever i saw Fabianski he looks jittery – yikes! But yes competition is good for Arsenal, because players will be playing out of their skin.Another interesting one is Nasri/Denilson/Diaby or RvP/Eddy/Bendtner.

Clean sheets breed confidence throuout the team, despite the press saying how much assured our defence looked at the start of the season, avid Arsenal supporters would have felt as I felt that there were accidents waiting to happen which they did mostly due to the incompetance of Almunia. The jury is still out on Mannone at least he has a good presence, decent positioning and an ability to stay awake for the odd times when the action is at his doorstep which nis a pre-requisite for an Arsenal keeper…would like to see him hold on to shots instead of parrying them hopefully that will come with his confidence.
