Arsenal End Salamanca Partnership For Celta Link Up

Arsenal’s mutual partnership with Spanish Segunda outfit UD Salamanca has officially come to an end. However, the club have maintained their base on the continent by re-establishing their previous link with Celta Vigo.

Young Guns announced in September that Arsenal were considering cancelling the partnership with Salamanca following their treatment of both Havard Nordtveit and Pedro Botelho during loan spells. The latter was even withdrawn early after allegations that assistant manager Fran Albert had been attempting to black-mail Pedro into handing over money.

Celta Vigo have been handed a second chance to link with the Gunners after an acrimonious split over a row with Carlos Vela in 2006. After promising they would loan the Mexican, they signed too many non E.U players and were unable to add Vela to their ranks. Yet after Salamanca’s Sporting Director Miguel Torrecilla switched to Celta in the summer, Arsenal have now rekindled the relationship which was initially setup by David Dein.

After a struggling start to the season, Celta’s initial push for promotion appears to be over already, but future non-EU players look certain to make the switch to Spain. The club will also look for a new man to look after the arrangement after Richard Law was promoted to Ivan Gazidis’ excutive team following a successful interview for the post during pre-season.

Celta is a big club, so great news! J, I am wondering how the process of scouting is working. Say Orlandelli discovers a talent, do Rowley come next in line to check the player? Would think probably Europe is more of a central spot where scouts are sent and available to double check players. Do you know who is the representative in Africa? Is there a co-operation with ASEC? sorry for a lot of questions

No problem. How it works is normally a low level scout will find a player and scout him 3-4 times. Then once he’s happy the details will be passed to Sandro or the head of whatever region. Sandro will scout the player a number of times along with the scout who found him and after probably 20 games, Rowley would go and check.

Its a complicated process. With regards to Africa, I don’t think were is a kind of deal like this but we do scout Africa heavily.

What’s this guy Miguel Torrecilla like? Is he a class act and the key to all this? Why does Arsenal do business with his clubs?

TheCritic: I think you meant BEC, which is not a Hong Kong team but instead is a Thai team. And you got the rest of them spot-on.
