Brazilian Serie ‘A’ outfit Fluminense have sold their highly prized young forward Wellington Silva to Arsenal for $5 million dollars, according to respected Rio-based journalist Gilmar Ferreira.
Ferreira has reported on his official blog that, following talks last week, Arsenal have finally ended the protracted saga by snapping up one of the most sought after young strikers around. However, due to FIFA rules, he will follow the same path as Argentine goalkeeper Damián Martínez by remaining with his club until he is 18, in 2011.
The starlet, nicknamed Ciel, impressed during a 7 day trial last Christmas – he even played 45 minutes for the Under 16’s against Norwich – and he made an emphatic impression, scoring 4 goals. In a bid to warn off potential suitors who included Chelsea, Man Utd, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Barcelona, coach Carlos Alberto Parreira promoted Wellington into his first-team squad but financial trouble has seen them buckle, and a deal looks to have been struck by trusted Brazil-based scout Sandro Orlandelli.
More to follow.

Very exciting news if true. How reliable do you reckon this info is J? If it is true, when would his contract with us start?
you are pretty fast mate :-). Any news about Afobe as he played today? Keep up the great work J.
Oh, Jan 2011?
I have heard of Gilmar Ferreira before and, from a personal opinion, he seems quite reliable. As the article that was posted before says, he works as a sports journo for Rio newspaper ‘Extra’.
Is this the wellington kid who played in the brazil under 17 a couple of months ago.
Yes!!!This boy is the bomb! well done Arsenal and thank you J.i know a lot of arsenal fans were harrassing you for any news on him :)
j,when he turns 18 will he come directly into our team,or would he have to go on loan to spain.
Sounds great JS does this still mean we are after Galvan? or is that now unlikely to happen?
excellent news, wat kind of player is he?? is he a typical brazilian player??
Jamie can you confirm if he is the Wellington that played with the likes of Coutinho, Zizinho in the U-17 South American championships or a different Wellington?? thanks
mad i can not wait when this guy puts on an arsenal shirt, whether it be against a league 2 team or a youth friendly i guarentee my life that i will be there to serve my fulfillment as a arsenal supporter that i am.

Its the same Wellington
He should stay with them until he is 18
There were 2 Wellingtons in the u17 brazil world cup sqaud. The one we signed came off the bench but he is a year younger then the rest of the team. He had W.Silva on his jersey.
Fluminense is struggling. They are in the drop zone. If they don’t they will be sent to Series B. Lots of clubs in South America sell talent to make ends meet. not good. This is a good signing for the Gunners. Zer-zero at half. http://bobbygee.wordpress.com/
great talent, some nice yotube vids of him, looks very fast ad techincal yet a very poerful shoot
any news on benick afoebe
great news if true, from the reports I have heard here. Seems like a source that is unlikely to scruple his reputation
I hope this the end of the never-ending story, it would be fantastic, I’m very excited about Wellington…
Denilson came straight into our team, so I expect he might to
Is it :
Wellington Alves Da Silva,
Or,
Wellington Silva Sanches Aguiar
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
GREAT NEWS!! And you only get it on YOUNG-GUNS first.
Thanks J.
I cannot believe 55 million dollars although I believe all the rest.
The Critic: I know they’re both brazillian, but they have completely different styles. It’s far harder to throw on a youthful, spirited player who bases his game on flair and directness of play, such as Wilshire, into the Prem than a youthful but composed player who bases his game around taking the ball and moving it on, such as Denilson, and, even more so, Cesc. Apart from the increased pressure, they are far more likely to pick up injuries. And Denilson started in the reserves and CC anyway.
Oh, and nicky, just to clarify, thats 5, not 55, million dollars.
He is Wellington Alves Da Silva.
I believe this signing puts an end to the Galvan deal but I think people prefer Wellington anyway.
Jerry….Thanks for that. I’m breathing again!!
Thanyou J,
I believe us Gunners do prefer wellington to galvan, he is better and seems to have better morals aswell lol
Will he be able to go to Celta Vigo on loan or does he need to stay in Brazil until he turns 18?
Right guys to clear this up. There are two Wellington’s who play for Fluminense.
One of them is Wellington Silva Sanches Aguiar. He’s a midfielder with an afro. Most people think he’s the one we’re after and most video are about it. He wears the number 8 for Brazil.

Wellington Alves Da Silva, known as Wellington Silva is a striker with short hair. He’s born in 1993, he’s the one we’ve signed. He wears number 20 for Brazil. You can tell them apart in this photo.
The Arsenal player is on the left, the remaining Fluminense player is ont he right.

good, but number 8 is way way better
We will win every trophy known to mankind with this kid. He could have gotten into the Real Madrid side at the age of 13. FOR REAL.
Thanks J,
Soz, but is Wellington Silva Sanches Aguiar any good,
Are we after anyone else at the moment,
Like DODO, ZEZINHO, NEYMAR
Thanks and sorry to bother U
The number 8 is really good yeah, but I don’t think creative CMs are the way to go right now, we have so many.
Also, the Gilmar Ferreira article says the fee was 5million euros, not dollars.
Just wached some of WALES highlights, A.Ramsey goal vs Scots, Fletcher was outclassed by him, and couldnt tackle him lol
i think Manscum have signed Dodo already and will join at 18. Neymar would cost alot and we don’t need him.
This is the last season that we will be abe to sign u17 players from abroad.Expect deals for Martin Luis Galvan and Zezinho.
Sean,
WHY is this are they making a new rule?
wow…. 2011…. I hope I got to see this guy before 2011… This will be interresting to see if he can do better than our youths forward. I expect big things from Afobe, Freeman, Sunu and Watt.

Apparently Wellington Silva scored this past weekend in some sort of youth championship in Brazil.

I believe it is the Wellington Silva who has been signed by Arsenal, given he is listed as a Striker rather than as a midfielder… Seems to be a great talent!
hope this sign will be boots to my loveable club (Arsenal) hope he start playering next season.
EPL destroys Brazilian and Argentine players.
Same problem I’m having, i can’t see the article with my e71 not even z comments, I’m on a comp right now.
Its great to have a signing wellington silva seems to have good finishing and is good in the air. i hope he will be benefitial to arsenal in the future. however i also think we need a more experienced forward to get the goals now since van persie is out anyway when he comes he will be an excellent signing.
wellinton silva or what do u cal dis guy i av never seen him play but if he is nt good enough d prof won av went 4 him
