Brady – 'Wilshere & Gibbs Just The Tip Of The Iceberg'

Arsenal’s Head of Youth Development officer Liam Brady has told Arsenal TV Online that he believes that Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs represent just the tip of a developing iceberg of promising English players coming through the Academy.

Speaking at the launch of a set of million pound floodlights at Hale End, the Irish legend spoke to the club’s official channel about a number of subjects including the media spotlight which has evolved with websites like Young Guns. Brady admitted that sometimes it can be an added pressure yet it’s expected in todays culture.

With the emergence of players such as Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs, all Arsenal fans are eagerly waiting for the next big starlet to come of the production lines, and Brady admits there is a number of players who could be next.

“There is quite a few. We’ve had Jay Emmanuel-Thomas at Blackpool, he’s done pretty well. He’s been up and down but thats why he’s out there. Henri Lansbury is doing very well at Watford and Jay Simpson has been scoring the goals at Queens Park Rangers.”

“There will be more going out on loan, its in their hands now, they’re out in the real world of football and its up to them now.”

The flow of good young English players is notable at Arsenal and the further development of the already superb Hale End system will no doubt further the education the boys receive. Whilst it is true that there are many exciting players coming through, little changes like the floodlights mean the best prospects are yet to come.

I think this is the umpteenth time I am making this complaint.. but the fact that you have white text on black background, it renders it meaningless over any RSS feed. Is there any way you can change that ?

In 10 years who has he produced from Hale End thats a regular in the 1st team………………. no one. Dont include foreiengers bussed in at 16 or from other UK academies. No wonder Wenger and LB dont get on hes done nothing for the 1st team. For lower Prem Coca Cola and League 1 yes plus 30-40mill in fees but not for the 1st team.

After last years double winning youth team, I don’t think there is going to be a big amount of English talent coming through here. There maybe 1 or 2, but most now are foreigners being shipped in. I hope he proves me wrong.

I doubt very much that anybody on the football staff at Aesenal would survive 6 months let alone 10 years+ if Wenger did not have the utmost regard for them. Stating Wenger and Brady don’t get along is a typical “paper never refused ink” comment that is more in tune with tabloid media comments. Brady would not be on the staff in such an influential position without Wengers total backing.

The biggest concern at Arsenal is not Liam Brady and the 1st team staff it’s a coach at the academy who apparently is dragging down the academy and thats why sean O’Conner left the club.

The academy is a wash with ego’s and staff are
all trying to out do each other, the atmosphere apparently is terrible.

H Henry- the academy and shenley are separate operations with LB head of the academy and AW head of shenley. There is no overlap as AW never watches u9-16s games and definately couldnt name any players from this age group. Lastly AW doesnt rely on the players LB produces as he buys abroad and hasnt done for 11 years, plus hes not goin to sack a terrace hero whose role is irrelevant to his own success. If AW remains unsuccessful then the fans will start looking at LB role failure to produce any worthwile 1st team players.
