As Arsenal mull over whether to hand American Under 17 international Luis Gil a contract, the highly sought after pass-master is interesting several Major League Soccer clubs as he looks to sort out a club after previously having his development handled by the US residency programme.
Gil is currently away with the American national team at the Under 17 World Cup in Nigeria where a defeat against Italy ended their hopes of progression past the final 16. But some star performances have caught the eye and subsequently murmurs have started to emerge that European outfits are keen to capitalise on the youngsters fame in a growing commercial market for American prospects. Arsenal have had Luis on trial previously and Liam Brady is believed to have been suitably impressed, yet a contract offer is yet to arrive.
“There are a couple of words going out there saying that I had signed with Arsenal but in reality I just went there for about a week and a half on trial.”
“It was a good experience, the staff was good, the environment was beautiful. But as of now I’ve just done a trial, so far.”
The Mexican football Federation are said to be keen on recruiting Gil, who would qualify through his father, but he has allayed any fears that he might want to swap the white of USA for the green of Mexico, who boast striker Carlos Vela in attack.
“I got comfortable being here, I got most of my experience in the US, and I’m looking forward to playing for this team.”
Luis has told friends, family and the media his sole aim is to turn professional as quickly as possible, and with European clubs dragging their heels, the MLS is an option he’s open to.
“It’d be a great opportunity [to play in Europe] but if the chance doesn’t come I’ve got to take what’s given to me.”
“I’ve been talking to a couple of people about the MLS, so hopefully that would be a great place to start my career.”
More news is expected when Luis returns to California in the next few days. Various scouts have been tracking his progress throughout the World Cup and competition for his signature is expected to be fierce.

So the quote from Gil above is:
“…but in reality I just went there for about a week and a half on trial.””
But YoungGuns reported that Gil had been at Arsenal since May (that’s six months):
“Gil has been training full-time at London Colney since May” (article posted October 25, 2009)
When someone replied to that article and suggested he hadn’t been at Arsenal since May the response by J.Sanderson was:
“Thats a load of crap. Why do you say he isn’t when I know for a fact he has been. He don’t write lies on here so back away from that now.”
So, is J.Sanders wrong, or the Gil quote above?
whoa, thats … confusing.
Lets get this straight. You replied to the previous article saying he wasn’t at Arsenal at all, never had been, and that we were lying. Hence why in my comment it says ‘I know for a fact he has been’ meaning he has been at Arsenal. Whereas you claimed he wasn’t. This comment was deleted, along with the three other you left, because it was simply not true.
The picture above and his quotes confirm that he was at Arsenal, where you said he wasn’t. With regards to the full time since May thing, that info was used as it was written on an American website who were following Gil.
So please don’t come here to try and cause trouble, FC, you silly boy. If you have any problems then e-mail me and I’m happy to sort it out. Simple.
Haha Diaby scored
Dont listen to FC hes just stirring rubbish
Yeah exactly. He knows he is in the wrong. If he leaves a proper e-mail address then we’ll discuss this. He’s probably a Tottenham fan in disguise!
*EDIT* –
I’ve watched this kid at the u17 and i like the look of him. He kinda reminds me of mata at valencia – I’d be more than happy with this acquisition.
Keep up the good work. Your always have exclusives and factual articles
J, any credibility in the rumours linking us with Mexican u17 striker/winger Martin Galvan? Also, any updates on the Wellington silva and Batrovic saga’s?
J, I know journalists are meant to report what’s going on, but considering the popularity of this site, Is it wise to write blogs regarding negative things like Afobe going to Barcelona? Within minutes, other sites had copied this and it was spreading like wildfire. These other sites/papers didn’t bother checking references, or sources or anything really and its a little like Chinese whispers. I think that British papers shoot their own countries sport in the ass, whilst the Spanish papers do the opposite and support their teams starting ‘FAB Loves Barca’ crap all the time. Anyway, better get back to my Auditing revision!
