Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal currently have six Reserves & Youth players gaining experience elsewhere. Jay Simpson is taking part in his third loan spell in as many years with West London outfit Queens Park Rangers. He is joined in the Championship by Henri Lansbury and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who are with Watford and Blackpool respectively. Gavin Hoyte has made his second loan move in a year by sealing a temporary switch to Brighton in League One.
The Gunners currently have two youngsters cutting their teeth abroad. Pedro Botelho is spending his third successive loan spell in the Spanish Segunda, but this time with Celta de Vigo, while Håvard Nordtveit is spending the campaign in Germany with Nuremberg.

Jay Simpson played the full 90 minutes and scored as Queens Park Rangers beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1.
Simpson’s goal scoring touch returned as he collected Akos Buzsaky’s ball just inside the area and lashed across Lee Grant’s goal with a powerful left footed strike. That came after 10 minutes but the lead lasted for just 3 minutes as Wednesday equalised through Jermaine Johnson. After Jay had further chances to put QPR in front they eventually got what proved to be the winner 8 minutes from time via defender Kaspars Gorkss.
Henri Lansbury played the full 90 minutes and claimed an assist as Watford won 2-0 against Preston North End.
The fixture was ultimately a tale of three loanees. First QPR’s Heidar Helguson put the Hornets in front after Craig Cathcart’s shot was saved before Lansbury’s superb run and then pass picked out Man Utd youngsters Tom Cleverly who ran 80 yards to get on the end of the Arsenal starlets pass. He made no mistake with a composed finish.
Henri could have had one for himself late on but his curling 25-yard-free-kick was stunningly saved by Andy Lonergan.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas played the full 90 minutes as he completed his three-month loan spell with Blackpool in their 4-1 demolition of Scunthorpe United.
Emmanuel-Thomas played in the traditional ‘number 10′ role behind Ben Burgess as he waved goodbye to the Seasiders fans. After a first half to forget, Paul Hayes’ classy finish put The Iron in front. Ian Evatt then crashed home a free-kick and a share of the spoils seemed the order of the day. But Scunthorpe then capitulated after having goalkeeper Joe Murphy sent off for saving a shot outside of goal and Blackpool cruised to victory.
From the resulting free-kick Charlie Adam slammed an effort down the throat of debuting glovesman Slocombe for 2-1. Burgess then tapped home a third before Alex Baptiste completed a comfortable win with a minute left.
Gavin Hoyte played 33 minutes of Brighton’s 4-4 F.A Cup 1st round draw with Wycombe Wanderers before being sent off for a wild swing at Jon-Paul Pittman.
Hoyte started at right back as Brighton began well and took the lead through Elliott Bennet. Matt Harrold levelled from the spot before Gavin was given his marching orders. The young defender tussled with Pittman in what seemed a harmless battle until he unleashed a petulant, wild kick at the forward. A straight red which even his manager accepted was fair.
Scott Davies then put Wycombe in front but Nicky Forster equalised from the spot in an incident which saw Craig Woodman sent off. With 10 men each it went back to being even with two Glenn Murray goals being matched by a second from Harrold and a Pittman effort. 4-4 and a replay beckons.
Håvard Nordtveit played the full 90 minutes in central midfield as Nuremberg’s poor form continued with a defeat against Maniz 05.
Nordtveit collected a booking in the 16th minute for unsporting behaviour as he showed his tenacious side but struggling Nuremberg were undone thanks to a first half winner from Elkin Soto.
Pedro Botelho was not included in the Celta Vigo squad which beat Castellón 2-1.

J.Sanderson, I want to say a massive thank you for your efforts on creating a cracking blog. I have been reading your stuff for a year or so and love reading about future Arsenal stars. I’ve been too lazy to post in the past. Ignore the haters, keep up the good work. Love it.
