New Signings Angha & Monterio Jet In For Training

As the international break arrives and handfuls of Arsenal players depart London Colney to be with their respective national teams, two of the clubs summer signings who aren’t due to complete their transfers until January will jet in for training ahead of their switches in the new year.

FC Zürich’s Switzerland Under 16’s captain Martin Angha is joined by fellow centre back Elton Montiero who will join from FC Sion. The Swiss pair are due to touch down with their families on the 18th of November for a week-long stay before returning to their home land for a final stint with their respective clubs before becoming Arsenal players properly in January.

Angha, a life-long Gooner, is one of the most eagerly anticipated youth signings for a while after captaining Zürich to glory in the Nike Cup where they beat teams such as Monterio’s Sion and Sead Hajrovic’s Grasshoppers. The pacy 6 foot 1 inch centre half has had a fine campaign so far with goals from corners and set pieces coming in their plenty, he even found the net last week against FC Winterthur. A defender who loves to play beautiful football but who is not afraid to get stuck in and perform the ‘dirty work’, he’ll no doubt prove to be a very welcome addition.

Monterio, a 6 foot 2 inch left footed centre back who can also play in midfield, is oner of the lesser known lights in his homeland but one that the Arsenal coaching staff are notably excited about. His aggressive and powerful approach to the game will no doubt fit that of the competitive Academy League although both are expected to begin their Arsenal careers with Steve Gatting in the Under 16’s.

Young Guns will have more on the progress of the boys in the run up to their permanent switch.

This is such a fantastic website. I have no idea where you get your information but it´s always wonderful, and exciting to hear about our incredible youth and reserve teams who have contributed so much to our first team over the years.

    Keep up the good work.

P.S. Would love to hear what you tihnk about my blog. Today I´m talking about Sir Alex, and whether or not his influence in English football has become to great and is starting to have a negative effect.

Very much so, Amr. Its fantastic to have more young players who really love the club. Will help if Martin develops into a top player and other clubs want him, he’ll want to stay because he has a real affection for the club.

I’ve been living in Zurich since April, have never seen Angha play, but I’ve heard his name a lot, and from what I heard he is supposed to be a real gem. There is one kid from FC Aarau, no idea his name but he’s an attacking midfielder, but everything about him reminds me or Messi. His height, looks, playing style, everything. I was at a tournament with some Swiss teams, German and Italian and every game he played in, he basically ripped all of the defences apart, scored about 5 goals and got player of the tournament. Should try to find out his name though, he looks like he can turn into be something very special. No idea about Monterio though. Hajrovic is a real aggressive midfielder, he needs to calm down sometimes though, I’ve heard a bit about him and seen him a few times, seems to be very good but at times a little over the top.

As completely irrational as it is (I’ve not seen either play, or even heard of them until 10 minutes ago) I’m already convinced that these two will soon be lined up next to Tommy Vermaelen and Cesc in the 2011 European Cup winning side.

For clarity: my predictions are based entirely on this article.

    Come on you(th) Gunners…

So that’s three young Swiss centre backs, in addition to Senderos and Djourou? Clearly Wenger knows something we don’t!

I would imagine so, crafty! there is certainly something going on with the Swiss that others have missed out on. Although said that Senderos and Djourou are maybe not the best examples of Wenger being right about Swiss talents!

Well, Djourou is still a prospect, set back only by injuries.

Interesting to know about Angha being an Arsenal fan, because I think it does make a difference. Certainly these kinds of things add weight to Fran’s choices with Atletico. If I recall correctly, Bentley was a Spurs fan, and that’s where he ended up.

Arsenal should take a look at Philip Nantas. He is a swedish 15 year old boy who has already trial for barcelona, real madrid, and city. He made his first trial as a 9 year old for real and they wanted him but he chose to stay in sweden. He trial for barca last year and they wanted him also but he chose to stay in sweden again. His mom wants him to stay in school until he is 18 or so. But if real and barca wants him he is something special. he is very small but he plays very good. Like Mata or arshavin type of player.

Tottenham have a link with Internacional the Brazilian club. Why don’t we have a link that side of the world? Santos/Corinthians or something. Seems like a shrewd move by the spuds. Anyone got Gazidis’ number?

Arsenal know whats best when it comes to youth development. We have a heavy influence in Brazil in terms of scouting but putting all our eggs into one basket and joining forces with one club doesn’t make sense.

Brazilian football is so open in terms of development. There is no set club that constantly turns out youth talent, little hot beds develop from all over. So joining forces with one particular club wouldn’t benefit us at all.

Wenger likes to scout for new players in “second hand-countries”, places that aren’t filled with other scouts. By doing that, he doesn’t have to pay high fees. Switzerland suits the bill! :)
