Wilshere Doubtful For Man City After Reserve Injury

Jack Wilshere is rated at 50:50 for Arsenal’s Carling Cup quarter-final with Manchester City next week after suffering a recurrence of his troublesome ankle injury after 65 minutes of last night’s Reserve defeat to Aston Villa.

Wilshere took several kicks on his ankle in his first game back since a month-long layoff and Banfield eventually withdrew the youngster after he deteriorated in the second half. How bad the problem is will be determined by a scan but no doubt Jack will be desperate to return for the quarter-final after missing the win over Liverpool in the last round.

More news is expected by the end of the week.

its bad news but my view is that he shouldn’t be risked if there is a chance he is not 100%. wenger wont want constant injuries to a player of this age.

should see a few fringe players thrown in there i think. atleast i certainly hope so.
young jack seems to be following the rather injury prone path of theo. needs to bulk up in the next few years. hopefully he’ll play some part in the cc tie demolition of those man shitty cunts.

This is the problem with English football, when you get a talented kid willing to run at players he gets kicked until he either gets injured or becomes too scared to use any skill.

This is not good. This leads me to believe there is some thing very wrong with his ankle. Maybe he came back too quick. Athletes tend to push it to the max to get back from an injury too fast.

The problem with talented players being kicked and harried is age-old, one of the best illustrations of this was the 62 world cup when a certain Pele was literalll kicked out the tournment in the first game, chile i think.

Certainly not just an English problem.

Sorry, this guy must be made of fucking balsa wood, his first game back, that is pathetic.

Well with him and merida possibly out of the City game the team selection will be even tougher for AW. Hard to rest first teamers if their back ups are unavailable. Can’t send too inexperienced a team out either as the CC and FA cup are the only thing City can win this year and they will be all out to get through, they will put out their strongest team. A really shit situation for the manager. Really feels like fate is against us at the moment in terms of injuries and the merida sending off and subsequent ban is just a sickener.

I don’t think you’ll see too many Reserves, probably none at all in the Champions League match. I reckon Wenger will use his less regular first team players like Merida, Senderos, Silvestre, Traore, Vela, Ramsey and Eboue. We’ll probably see Watt, Randall and one or two others on the bench though.

I wonder why there are so many frequent injuries. It might be because of the fast style of passing which makes opposition defenders make rash decision as well as the players having quick movement and as such easily getting caught. Could also be training methods, but from what I have heard Wenger has been a constant revolutionary there. Third possibility I can see are many matches, though that should be no issue with Wilshere, and fourth the build of the players physique.

@ Tony, It will be CC team plus players that need games

@ Sebjob, Wilshere has taken some very bad tackles on his ankles bcuz he is mainly a dribbler thus inducing lunging tackles as he forces tha game thru dribbling past players.

I often read this site and have to say enjoy doing so. I never commented but some of these comments have forced my hand! Does anyone actually no what happened to Jack? First off it wasn’t opponents it was Gibbs in training. Secondly initially it was so bad at first they thought he’d broken it and he was rushed to hospital. That was only a few weeks ago so to talk about this boy being weak or how English players are picked on is farcical. It’s football players get injured. Trust me Jack is a strong boy.

Merida is suspended from all, presumably English, football until 3 1st team matches have been completed.

The ban commences on 9th December, so he is available for Man City, & Olympiacos.

Jack was done early on by Albrightson, who should certainly have been booked. It was like the one Adebayor did on Cesc. Several of his colleagues followed suit & Jack tried to get his own back but of course was booked. Jack is a bit feisty, which is both a good & a bad thing. He will need to keep his temper because there will be plenty out there trying to do worse than Villa were last night.

Good competitive game that will have been good experience for both sets of players.

If Jack Wilshere has only 50/50 chance of playing in the Carling Cup game against Manchester City, then i personally would rather Arsenal edge on the side of caution, and leave him out to get treatment on the ankle, rather than play him and end up making his ankle injury even worse IMO
