Arsenal will send scouts to Saturday’s Coca Cola Championship clash between Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers after news that sought after youngster Raheem Sterling could feature.
The Gunners made checks on Sterling during QPR Reserves’ 2-2 draw with Aldershot last week where Sterling played the final 30 minutes and impressed. Since then caretaker manager Steve Gallen has had the 15-year-old training with Jay Simpson and the rest of the R’s first-team and has run through several match routines involving the live wire prospect. Gallen has also spoken to the media about the starlet.
“He has loads of natural ability. This boy can pass, shoot, head it, score goals, tackle, defend, anything”
Raheem only celebrated his 15th birthday recently but already the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are on his trail after he starred for England’s Under 16’s. Sterling made an impact mostly as a substitute as Kenny Swain’s boys claimed the Victory Shield live on SkySports. Arsenal striker Zak Ansah played and scored in the same team.
Should Gallen hand the skilful winger a debut, he would surpass Frank Sibley’s record of being the club’s youngest-ever player. A record like that would add to Sterling’s already impressive CV and with a host of Premier League clubs ready to swoop, QPR would struggle to hang onto one of the most talked about prospects in the country.

brillant!! If he is our striker signing for january we can forget any trophies. Wenger only buys kids. We need stars or at least established players!! 5 years without winning anything ( even the mickey mouse trophy ) is enough. Win something this year or go you stubborn idiot!!
my mate plays with this guy at QPR in the u16s, and rates him very highly, id love arsenal to sign him!
stupid commend arsenal4ever. The signing of a 15 year old hasn’t anything to do with the signings for the first team.
stupid comment*
J Sanderson, What about this. We offer Jay Simpson for him in jan. Maybe even gilbert. Also could add wilshere on loan or JET or loan to them. I think if he as good as they say it will be worth it in the long term.
Please don’t simpson+cash exchange for Sterling.
WEM you know Wenger. I am just affraid we will bolster only our young teams nothing else. I truly believe we will sign 1 or 2 players but for transfers Wenger is responsible so he will wait probably to get only Chamakh for free in summer. And why Simpson in exchange? I dont think we will agree with this!! He can be our new Wrighty!!
if we are getting a winger :D
I think he would be the only one the club has…
@ arsenal4ever, there are plenty of 1st team blogs out there if you want to vent your frustrations but dont comment of youth blogs if you dont have anything constructive to say bcuz i were JS, i would ban you straight away. Intake & outtake of talents is continous action rather than action that can be stopped bcuz 1st team is winning
Its not to late to switch wavering alligiance to Spuds down the road or may be sell your soul to the Chavs down West London
i think he will be a very good signing for us
he will probaly be able to play in the youth cup for us ( if he hasnt alredy played for QPR)
he iz defintely gonna be a star when he is older
@Supergunner07 I think I you are being too hard on the little lad. It is true that Wenger is doing the right thing for the club but doing it the wrong way.
An idiot knows we need some players in the first team but he will never buy any one mainly because he is too sturbborn yet he keeps signing players for the youth team.
Do you want to tell me the money he is using on the youth team can not be put into the first team as well?
Football fans want to support a winning team not a team that breaks your heart and sincerely, what is the point in signing so many young players when they end up playing for other teams.
and a question for everyone
who will be the future of arsenal
sterilng (if he signs)or wilshere
easy answer! Sterling Right Midfield, Wilshere Left Midfield :)
Jay Simpson is a good footballer but not on Arsenal level. He wont be next an Wright he will never get the chance. Rvp, Nicky B, Eduardo, Vela, Theo, Watt are in front of him. So wont want to stay at Arsenal to be playing Res Team. We could make it at u but wont get the chance. So it could do us well with this deal. With likes of Rambo, Merdia, Wilshere, Merdia, Bartley, Ozzy O, Benik A, Chunks, and now him hopefuly it looks good.
Arsenal.
does anybody know why mcdermott did not play last night? he played against norwich so match fitness after injury? I was surprised loan signing Dunn played in stead
I Brendon
Simpson is not there yet but looking at performances of Eduardo, Vela and Walcott and the fact that they all play without any heart for the team; don’t you think Simpson at least need some chances to prove himself.
Brendan, when it comes to Simpson it is my opinion that he is undoubtedly a player who will be a good premiership player in two year time. I think it depends a lot how much he want it and is willing to wait. I would like to see an alternative to Bendtner, somebody physical like him who is also able to come in from the sides and I think simpson fit that profile. But like for example Upson, Muamba, Sidwell…ehm Bentley (I said with a low voice)..it all depends on their patience, focus and hard work…seem to me Simpson has had an excellent attitude from his time even in Millwall
If we get a chance sign to sign this Raheem Sterling kid from Queens Park Rangers then we should do, because he looks like he has alot of potential IMO.
He didn’t do very well against the Jocks. Alex Henshall is the boy to get from Swindon. Clearly he will be an England left wing star. And Fanimo of course at West Ham – another left footer with a hell of a lot going for him.
15 years old and playing with a championship side already? thats crazy. How tall is this kid?
**** Bottom line we need to sign ROMELU LUKAKU from Anderlecht ASAP! Real deal @ striker we need to beat everyone else to him! Also to solve striker issue in 1st team Adriano in January? JET, Watt and Sunu deserve a start soon in the 1st team? Come Arsenal wake up and show some aggression towards scoring!!!!
@Supergunner07 I think I you are being too hard on the little lad. It is true that Wenger is doing the right thing for the club but doing it the wrong way.

You arent even worth a proper response.
lukaku scored a brace against ajax today.i think we will be outpriced in this deal even if wenger is interested
Any clips of him in action?
and btw does Wenger have a say in every youth transfer e.g Wellington and this one?
sterling and lukaku, yes please :)
@ Matt…
LUKAKU looks VERY promising. I’d love us to sign a powerful stirker like him. As well as Sterling they would be two outstanding prospects for the future. Love that we keep working on the youth level. Obviously first team is separate. On that level we do need a CB to replace Senderos and a striker IMHO like Carlton Cole who would not be cup tied for Europe, would be fresh from injury, already plays in a 4-3-3 man up top system, and is strong in air and in body. Perfect January IMO.
Im with Matt. We need Lukaku. We can not let Chelsea have him. He is the next Drogba, and he maybe the direct option the club needs……………..NOW. Incredible talent with size and speed to boot.
We could afford to go after Sterling. If he turns out to be a very good player, and lets face it, Wenger and Co do a good job at the youth level, then we have a player. If he doesnt pan out, because he is English, Wenger can sell him an inflated price in 5 years time. I think its time he does that with Mark Randall
I’m kinda confused about what’s happening with Jay Simpson. I really get excited reading and researching our young players but living in Canada I don’t get to see all the reserve and youth team fixtures so i’m not as informed as most of you…now back to Simpson. Why not give him a chance??? maybe in the FA cup?? I mean he’s stuck around for a number of years so he MUST LOVE THE CLUB!!!:) Who knows what he could do?? I’ll admit I’ve only seen him play once and I don’t remember him scoring or anything but still…Why not try him a couple times. I guess i’ll answer my own question and tender that maybe Wenger doesn’t rate him?? I don’t actually know lol. It would be nice to get Lukaku!! Now I have seen him play a couple times. Don’t want Chelsea to get him cuz it sounds like it’ll be another 15 years of Drogba all over again!! lol Come on Arsenal!!:D
a bit of perspective about Simpson, and other talents. Cashley broke through after loan with Crystal Palace at 21. Ian Wright was signed by Crystal Palace after trial from non-league at 22. Andy Cole was sold from Arsenal at 21, success at Bristol City and sold to Newcastle at 22. Solskjaer broke through in the Norwegian league at 22,and in England at 24. Luca Toni at 28. Miroslav Klose was a carpenter and broke through at 22. Gilberto Silva factory worker until 21 years old. Steve Bould slowly established himself slowly at relegation fighters Stoke from 21 onwards. Lee Dixon fought himself up the leagues and signed by Arsenal at 24. Nigel Winterburn went to the old first division with Wimbledon at 24. Yaya Toure as a lot want us to sign, was rejected by Arsenal who had a buy-clause, and got to one of the biggest leagues at 24, if you exclude the one year before that with Monaco. Hangeland was not seen as a top player, but good, in Norway when sold to Fc Copenhagen at 24 where he established his reputation and signed for Fulham at 26. Another we are linked with Pazzini got his first international cap at 25. Chamakh can say to really start to hit the headlines last year at 24, though was not scoring a lot of goals a good player. Manu 6 years defender Ronny Johnsen signed for Besiktas at 26, Manu 27. Dion Dublin a regular at 25. Les Ferdinand 5 months before 26…mind is figures just about as I looked at years they broke through and their birth year
Hope I have made my point clear, and showed how utterly bored I was at the moment…these took me half an hour to find so sure there are more. Some are saying, like yesterdays discussion, that we should be giving up on players as young as Eastmond. It is just a testimony to Wenger’s regime how early we expect them to break through these days
Yeah Sebjob You’re right!! I wasn’t saying to get rid of Simpson though lol!! I don’t even know if we should deal him for Stirling. Without having seen him play a lot my gut feeling is that we shudn’t. I just hope we make the right decision whatever that may be.
when will stupid idiots like arsenal4ever understand that this will not be for the first team. its just like the luke freeman deal u muppet and even when we signed theo walcott signed he spent his first season in the reserves
ah…remebered one more…Ballack at Chemnitzer FC until he was 21

Spot on, i will go even further by saying only Rooney, Gerrard & Rio out of the current England squad were giving exceptional performances at young age so it just proves very good talents grow & mature @ different rates and ages.
This is nice

And then there’s this one….

Off comment. Now that Watford are in administration does it mean that Lansbury’s coming back? Remember he wants to extend his stay and they couldn’t pay his wages!
“It must be making an impression. Bould finishes a session with a shoot-out competition ahead of the Youth Cup tie against Crewe.”
Guess it paid off in the end.
Haha…..yeah, i guess so Sooth.
Thanks TJ for the article

to cj: why did you insulted me you little fucking asshole? I just told my oppinion and realised this is the wrong blog for it.
Why dont Arsenal piss off. Sterling is a Rangers player and always will be.
I think both of you, and others should refrain from name calling and insulting each other. I can understand some guys being frustrated who might get frustrated with the length of the talent development program, though surely must be impressed by the development of the club and talents. I for sure like many others belonging to those who are amazed at the development, and believe has changed the club, is changing and will change positively for many years to come. People who are new to the blog, and who did not read the annual report (with finances) might not understand the current state of economy and long term planning, plus that the budgets are separated. I see Supergunner who is usually calm and reflected got frustrated in this fact being repeated again, and that this is not a first team blog. And like he says different players develop different skills at different rates, and I think I made my point above how loosing patience can have a devastating effect.
People have sorted to dis-respectfulness in the forums, which has been escalating, and I do not think it belongs in a quality blog like this and do not think the authors of the blog deserve that
TJ DA GOON’s links refer excellently to Bould, who talks about how important mind, patience and character comes into the development of the players. I am also a fan of newsnow TJ, like candy to a football fanatic, unfortunatley they will not be allowed to keep linking much longer
…not interfering between you guys by the way, I just talk about my interest in the blog I like
and am sorry to bother, what would you think about the people in the forums/ comment space discussing some ground rules for behaviour which to adhere to? I see other blogs out there which I never bother to comment and usually do not read because I think their comment space is just men talking about feelings…which is fair enough, I am a modern man, just do not make it a soapie :) and keep respect
I dont want to insult anyone but if someone do it to me I am only defending. I know it is childish and wont repeat but this guy made me really angry as I already apologized to comment for the first teamers here.
yeah, I think it escalated a bit from both sides…shit happens
anyway steerling would be great but pls not in exchange with simpson.
yeah, I also think there is a lot more to come from Simpson, just depends how much and when. Manu just bought Diouf from Molde in Norway, he is same age as Simpson and they paid somewhere around 5-7 million pounds for him. He did not even end up as top scorer in the Norwegian league, and 99.9% of the supporters in club and league never saw him being sold there, and the former national coach the same season said Diouf was hyped up. And they bought him as a talent with a lot of potential to develop
Sebjob – ‘I am also a fan of newsnow TJ, like candy to a football fanatic, unfortunatley they will not be allowed to keep linking much longer’
I haven’t heard anything. What’s happening with newsnow?
click the link above the news. As I understand it is in connection with google lawsuit. What I know is that it is a restriction in how many articles being able to link to and how many the reader can read.
cheers
he’s quality i watched him in the victory cup he’s got everything, pace, technique, he’s fairly strong for his size, he has good vision and good ball control.
Wow, so many people talking as if they are the arsenal board. So many people who seem to be blind to the fact that all premier league clubs are struggling for money and many of the top 4 won’t be able to compete in the next few years because of it. Look at how Liverpool and Man Utd have had to stop spending and they are two of the biggest clubs. Yet Arsenal push on with a strategy that is looking more and more prudent for long term success every year. It’s a long-term strategy, it will come good and there is no coincidence that all clubs are now trying to copy it. Look at recent quotes from both Man U and Liverpool as well as Chelski for the last few years starting to do the same thing.
Stop worrying so much about tin cups, and worry more about the long term stability of our club, while we still compete at the highest level.
Just look at Liverpool, already admitting they’re trying to pay off debts and its looking like they might not have the Champs League money next season. Recipe for disaster. Will have to slash their wage bill and sell the players who want to play Champs League football and so will find it tough to get back in the top 4 next season.
Stop living in dreamland, thinking all clubs have unlimited pots of gold, and can sign any player just because they want to.
FAO Jom – Sterling is small – and 16 now I understand.
Everybody talk about Sterling, but it could the case of a new Cherno Samba. Quick for his age and really impressive, but not that great at a later age.
Regarding Jay Simpson, I am afraid he is likely to be a good premiership player, but unlikely to be a great player.
Unfortunately for him, the standard to play at Arsenal have raised so much that being a good English player is not enough anymore. Players have to be great player or potentially great player.
He may have a great attitude and he may love the club, but unless he dramatically improve he will be sold this summer or next.
At QPR, he is not currently setting the championship alight. What chance does he has at Champion league level?
Correction Stering is just 15 – got me wires crossed. One has to remember he is 9/10 months younger trhan Henshall and Fanimo.
