Arsenal’s Under 16’s saw their topsy-turvy campaign take another twist yesterday as their winning run came to an end with a 2-1 defeat against Norwich City in a chilly Norfolk.
Steve Gatting had to make do without the services of strikers Zak Ansah and Nigel Neita while holding midfielder Callum Webb was also missing. However, there was still several notable names including internationals Luke Chambers, Joe Jones and Steven Smith. James Campbell continued at left back.
Without leading goal getter Ansah – who was on target for the Under 18’s – Gatting’s young charges struggled to convert their chances. Norwich bagged two quick fire goals before exciting midfielder Samir Bihmoutine crashed home a concellation. Jeffrey Monakana left the field nursing a badly bruised arm, which fortunately wasn’t broken.
The Under 16’s now go into the winter break with a few hoping to kick on into the F.A Youth Cup side.

Finishing is always hard.
It doesn’t seem to be as many exciting prospects in this age group now as maybe couple of years ago when people were going nuts over Aneke and Afobe. What a team that was.
zak ansah seems quality. but besides him i see your point
only 1 Arsenal player on the u16 england team is not good enough. We have to start beating westham, everton, and Man City to these young english kids.
We have, more or less, only Ansah, Monakana, Bunjaku thats it.
We need Piazon and Minzi
We need Sterling, that’s who we need :) Hope we can let QPR have Simpson and some cash for that wunderkid.
Bunjaku is not that highly rated to be honest.
what happened i thought bunjaku was highly rated less than a year ago?
they hav a gd crop of internationals tho this team
Rees- England U17’s
Ansah- England U16’s
Jones- Northern Ireland U16’s
Chambers- Wales U16’s
Webb, Glasgow and Smith- Ireland U17’s
i woudnt say dats too bad
Simpson and cash for sterling? That would be a really nice way to treat Jay wouldn’t it. He’s come through the academy, worked really hard in the last couple of years, and suddenly we tell him that he’s not even worth as much as some unproven 14 year old kid. I really hate that idea. And who here has genuinely seen much of Sterling anyway? You often find Championship sides promoting these supposed ‘wonderkids’ from a very early age, and they may look good in relation to that league, and be ahead of their age group at international level, but that doesn’t mean they have a large capacity for technical improvement. Take Ipswich’s Connor Whickham for example. 16 years old and has already played 10 times in the Championship, so suddenly the press say he’s a future world-beater. He’s a good player for his age, and has the potential to be a decent player but if you’ve actually seen him play he really doesn’t stand out as having all that much talent. Of course there are countless other examples.
In relative is this a young u16 side?
At that price, I say no to Sterling unless Simpson is not included in that deal, as he could be worth 3-4 million pounds.
So who would you say is the most talented out of this crop of u16s J? Aside from Ansah who we know about it.
First of being a wales, scotland or irish youth international doesnt meen that much because there are some quality players in those teams but some really bad ones too. Like I said 1 u16 england player just isnt good enough…..by the way, I just saw Lucas Piazon kid play against the American u17s last week. You could tell he had skill but he didnt get involved that much in the game. He played as a striker but definetly is more similar to Kaka. Plus that fluminense defender we are rumoured to be after was on the bench but unfortunetly didnt get in.
I think a swap would be a good deal for sterling. The reward definetly over ride the risks. If Sterling was to fail then chances are he would be able to be sold for a couple million back to a lower league club anyways, but if we have a way to get a jump on Man City and the rest then we must take it. It would be alot better to lose a couple million rather then not sign him and he goes on to be a top player for Man City.
It would be good if Sterling went to Arsenal because he has obvious qualities but under Wenger he can be moulded into a far more rounded player. Obviously it depends mostly on the character of the player too but you know what I mean.
KWE
Who would pay 3 or 4 million pounds for Jay Simpson, because i would be happy if we got a 1 million pounds for him, as for our supposed lack of quality in our U16’s team, what people have to realize is it all goes in cycles, you take West Ham United as a prime example of this, because i think we can all agree that they probably have the best U16’s acadamy side in this country plus the best U18’s striker in Robert Hall. But the last time they had a crop of talented young kids of this quality was back in 1999 when they won the FA Youth Cup against Coventry City and won the cup 9-0 on aggrigate over two legs, and that was 10 years ago and only Michael Carrick and Joe Cole were the only ones who went on to have great carriers out of that team. As for our U16’s and U18’s teams only Benik Afobe and Chucks Aneke look like they have the quality to go to the very top, as for Zak Ansah sure he looks like a great finisher but on the evidence of his Sky Sports Schoolboy Victory Sheild games he played for the England U16’s team, he will need to add more to his game if he is going to go to the next level, but he is still only 15 years old so he has plenty of time on his hands
Kentpaul….you have to be kidding me. Westham have how many British talents that came from their academy and play for their first team right now. Plus how many talents have westham produced. Anyways I am saying that we need to start to up our take on the top English youth talent.
but isnt there a rule in england that english youngsters can only join an academy situated within 90 min of their home? That gives a club a radius of what? 80 miles? Not entirely sure that gives an club the scope to bring in many players.. Thus we can only buy 16 year old english players, and they dont come cheap.. Look at what price sterling is commanding..
Kent Paul, don’t underestimate Deacon and Ozyakup.
Hey JS, what became of the loan watch feature? I hear Chesneys making waves in League One, by all accounts he was MOTM on Saturday versus Leeds. I’ve been keeping an eye on the Brentford forum, they are all praying they can extend the loan.
What do you think Jay? After Almunia’s poor performances lately, can you see him coming back and featuring for us this term? I know Wenger wouldn’t allow him play the FA Cup a couple of weeks back, probably an indication he’ll only stay the month.
I think we have quite a few good players in the U16’s.
Ansah, Neita, Webb, Rees, Wynter, Monokana, Chambers, Edge, Glasgow. And also we have the swiss boys coming, Angha and Monteiro. Thats a whole starting lineup. And on top of that we have a bunch of players I don’t know much about but some of them could come good (Bunjaku, Bihmountine, Smith, Jones, Campbell, Sesay, Iffiel, Fagan, Wiseman, Aksoy, Reice-Cook).
And given that Ozyakup, Afobe, Aneke, Yennaris, Meade, Boateng, Hajrovic, McDermott, Miquel and Brislen-Hall all are first year scholars this year, I see no problem. We will have a very strong U18 side next year too.
WOW OUR TEAM WILL BE PACKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED NEXT YEAR THINK ABWT IT.
not sure this will be a good year for arsenal…i didn’t know all this guys but i will be very surprise if they got the same talent or are better than afobe, aneke, wilshere, freeman etc…..
But as i said before i never saw them play…so will see it
We have to improve finishing. Everything else fits my idea of football.
