Loanees – Botelho Scores Winner For Celta Vigo

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal currently have seven Reserves & Youth players gaining experience elsewhere. Jay Simpson and Henri Lansbury are taking part in successive loans in the Championship with Queens Park Rangers and Watford respectively. There are three youngsters in League One with Gavin Hoyte at struggling Brighton and Hove Albion while Wojciech Szczęsny and Rhys Murphy are enjoying their first spells away from the club at Brentford.

The Gunners currently have two youngsters cutting their teeth abroad. Pedro Botelho is spending his third successive loan spell in the Spanish Segunda, but this time with Celta de Vigo, while Håvard Nordtveit is spending the campaign in Germany with Nuremberg.

Read all the latest reports below.

Pedro Botelho played the full 90 minutes and scored his first professional goal as Celta Vigo beat Girona 2-1.

Botelho made his first start since recovering from injury at the Estadi Montilivi, the Brazilian slotted in at left back looking to build on his 11 appearances so far this term. Celta got off to a flying start when they won an early penalty, Roberto Lago converted and they were on their way to a much-needed win.

However, a second half fight back from Girona saw Jordi Matamala Muntadas score and then smack the bar in a rampant spell. Yet the game swung once more and struggling Celta restored their lead when Botelho smashed home his first professional goal in the 75th minute. It proved to be the winner.

Jay Simpson started and played 52 minutes before being substituted with an injury in Queens Park Rangers’ 5-1 defeat against Middlesbrough.

Dave Kitson, Mark Yeates, Gary O’Neil and a brace from Leroy Lita did the damage while Simpson’s replacement, Patrick Agyemang, pulled one back.

Henri Lansbury started and played 85 minutes for Watford as they lost 2-0 to Newcastle United.

Newcastle snapped out of the traps and took the lead inside the opening 20 minutes when Peter Lovenkrands turned home. Kevin Nolan was then shown a red card after two poor tackles, the second a shocking one on Lansbury, and the Hornets had a chance. Helguson had two chances to level the scores but he didn’t take them and eventually Newcastle got the killer goal. Former PSG striker Fabrice Pancrate with the second.

Wojciech Szczęsny played the full 90 minutes while Rhys Murphy featured for the final 18 as Brentford lost 1-0 to Tranmere.

Szczęsny made a handful of excellent saves to keep Tranmere at bay in the first half but the Polish stopper eventually lost his clean sheet when Craig Curran thumped home. Murphy replaced Ben Strevens with 18 minutes left but failed to have any impact.

Gavin Hoyte started and played the full 90 minutes for Brighton who beat Exeter 1-0.

Hoyte had a quiet game at right back but was reunited with former Gunner James Dunne who was a second half substitute for Exeter. Gus Poyet’s Seagulls snatched the win inside the final 5 minutes.

Håvard Nordtveit completed the full 90 minutes for Nuremberg who were hammered 4-0 by Borussia Dortmund.

The Norwegian struggled to make an impact in central midfield as Kevin Grobkreutz, Lucas Barrios, Mohammed Zidan and Mats Hummels inflicted Nordtveit’s loan club with another defeat. They now face the real threat of relegation heading into the winter break.

i really want cheszny to be our first team keeper….he has got better strength than mannone and also better technique while blocking a shot. but he needs to work on his ball distribution. mannone is the best of our four keepers as far as ball distribution is concerned

Does Almunia speak English? It doesn’t seem like it as his communication with the defence is non existing. How I cry for us to get a new GK or promote Tech9. Please Torres, don’t recover.

According to ESPN Pedro didn’t play the full 90. Came on 61 mins. Well done to him anyway. I wonder if he has a future with us?

Any news on how serious Simpsons injury is?

seems Nordtveit is doing fine enough with full minutes constantly, his team is not doing well though…playing under such pressure can be good for his development though
